  1. Yep, there wasn't much I saw at Best Buy or any other store actually. I did get a few items at Best buy online earlier today so I won't have to go wait in line there. I'm very thankful for that! My thoughts are to go out around 5am maybe to Wal-Mart then I'll hit a few other stores after that just to look around. Beyond that I might just people watch.

I am very glad that most all items are online this year and seem to be in good quantity! That's a good think and might help next year's fun come back. Once all the Ebayers buy stuff and can't re-sell it, they'll think twice about waiting in line for 36 hours or more.

  2. The past year is the first year that people said forget Thanksgiving and camped out. The got there the night before Thanksgiving in tents. By noon Thanksgiving day there was over 50 people in line. By the time 5 am hit, I'd say there was probably over 3,000 people in line. The news media caused a frenzy last year with all their coverage. It was horrible. Even if anybody wanted anything, no person in their right mind would sit for 2 days to say $20 or so dollars.

What was pushed last year by local media is how people are buying items and selling on Ebay for a large amount of cash. I hope people that tried it will now see that they didn't make a ton of money and will stay away this year. All of the people that got there that early each bought the front page items and any good deal in the ad.

I think no store should have less than 20 of an advertised deal. If it's a high demand item, they shouldn't be allowed to advertise and only have 3 items. It sucks and if that was the only item you were there for, you wasted time that could have been used at the next store. That bait and switch crap doesn't work with most because most people leave if they don't get what they were there for. They don't buy something else like the store hopes for.

  3. I agree! Every night this week they have been talking about how sales are down and retailers are going to discount even more. I don't the ads reflect that at all. So far, I don't see anything I can't live without.

What I've noticed is that due to the number of people that have been getting out the past 3 years, stores seem to be holding back on the deals. Plus they're waiting until closer to Christmas for some of the deals. Around here, people jump a sale when items are first put on clearance. It used to be that people would at least wait for 60% off, but they're ready to fight the day 10% signs are put up. I don't know why people have gotten to be that way, but it's not fun!

  4. I used to have fun before it turned out to be such a horrible thing as it is now. If people wouldn't camp out or stores would have a strict rule that you can't hang out in front of their store so long, it might be better again. They should make it so that you can't line up any sooner than 2:00am. Those willing to stay for days on end make it so normal people don't want to get out.

Because of that, I tend to try and buy what stores put up online. If they have the deals online that they do in store that morning, I'll buy everything I can. If their server doesn't give out, I come out of it with everything I want and just go out to the stores after they open for the fun of watching the people act like fools. "Oh no, Christmas is almost here and it's not like I had all year to think about it". Yeah I hope the few items I wouldn't mind getting will be able to be bought online.

  5. It's sort like they're saying they know there's not as good of deals as in the past and they don't want people to see it too far ahead of time to think about it. They should know by now that a lot of the people camping out for 1 or 2 days don't think anyway.
  6. My wife is in a wheelchair and we still brave the lines. They'll even try and trample her if they get the chance. I try and draw attention to line jumpers with the store manager (who's usually at the front door). That's also depending on when I get there. Now that people are willing to camp out for 2 days, I generally am too far back to even worry about line jumpers.
  7. I guess I can say I sacrifice sleep. I stay up all night so I can easily get out, plus I'm looking at online deals too. People have ruined the fun of the day for me now since it's so many that get out. Not just a few years ago it was lots of fun and you wouldn't see huge lines until closer to 5:00am. Now you have people willing to camp out for days just to say a dime. It's just crazy. Due to these type of people, the stores are responding by not having as good of deals as they used to.
  8. Yeah I'm thinking about picking a store that won't have as many people just to be out. Once all stores are fully open and the main crowd has gone in and wrecked the store, then I can show up and see what's left. If I miss anything, I won't worry since there's nothing really to miss. Still gotta wait and see what Wal-Mart is doing.
  9. Just thought I'd update this. They did allow me to return the single item at the local store. I didn't get the boots, but at least I didn't have to pay that crazy shipping charge for the only item they did send. They didn't really question it. But I thought a follow up was needed just to say they did give me my money back.
  10. Last week I had pulled up the Hot topic page seeing what they had on clearance. I'm an action figure collector so I hit all the pages that sell stuff I'm into regularly. Anyway, I found a pair of boots my wife liked that they had priced for just under $10. I saw some I liked that was priced right at $18. They had a figure I liked too so I threw that in just as an extra item.

Well day before yesterday I got email saying that the boots I wanted were sold out and they were canceling that order. That made me mad, but I figure at least my wife will get her boots. Well today I get my order by UPS and all it had was the figure. This being a $5 item, they tacked on a $8 shipping plus tax. It's nearly $13 beyond the $5 for the figure and they canceled my wife's boots too. Needless to say, they're getting this back and I want a refund.

What makes it worse is that both of these items I ordered remained up on their site over an hour after I finalized my order. My thoughts are that they didn't want to sell it for the price they had it listed because now these items are relisted but at a higher price. I just thought this was horrible business practice. I was near ready to report it to the Better Business Bureau. If they don't refund my money, I probably will. I just thought i'd post this as a heads up to anyone shopping their clearance section.

  11. Anybody needing HD cables for the Wii, I just picked up I just picked up one by Psyclone Essentials at Wal-Mart today. They're charging $1.72 for it. The official cable coming out I think is suppose to run about $30.

Still no Wii systems either in any store I've been in, Even though i have one, I'm still looking. I did see Target with about 30 of them the middle of last week. They sold quick.

  12. Not really much of nothing. They're still trying to squeeze hype with people on the PS3. It probably worked too with the mentality of people these days. They advertised PS3 and stated tickets will be handed out an hour before the store opens, so you know they had a line. I'll wait until Sony decides to ship enough so they are sitting on the shelf, even if it's not until next year.

The main thing I'm waiting for is good sales on computers. I want a new desktop and these so called sales for low end processors are nothing I want. They had some decent deals before Christmas (before November actually), but I couldn't do anything then plus buy Christmas. Maybe after the first of the year gets rolling. I think the prices are due to Vista coming out soon though.

  13. I struggled with this and the Best Buy guy recommended the Zune. You can delete or add 1 item at a time instead of having to re load your whole list. You can also share items with friends that have Zunes. I purchased this for my teen daughter. They have Nanos now. We'll see!

Hmm, my wife has an older 10 gig IPOD and I add and delete songs 1 at a time all the time. I use realaudio as the docking program though and have done some re-configuring on it.

The only thing that would be an issue to me is battery life. This old IPOD is horrible. It lasts maybe about 4 hours at best before needing a recharge. The battery needs changing I guess, but I figure how long before the battery went with a new one? So if the ZUNE's battery holds up better, I'd probably go with that.

  14. None of those stores here. I wonder if there will be people willing to give up their Christmas and start the line at 6 in the morning the 25th just to get the laptop. Heck they gave up Thanksgiving for a celeron processor, why not Christmas too?

Yeah that's sarcassim, hehe. It just got too crazy this year with people lining up for stuff that wasn't even worth the effort. It looks like a few good deals with this store. The hard drive sale would be well worth getting out early on the 26th for. Nothing would be worth sitting out through Christmas over though.

  15. Yeah that's what keeps too many good deals from showing up more often. Too many people that take advantage of something. Plus a lot of times they may not even do anything with what they get. They just get in a frenzy when they see "free".

But I didn't see anything about this until just now. I was busy all weekend with Christmas shopping. I'd have probably tried to get 5 tickets for anything for this coming weekend. My in-laws are coming to town so it would have been cool to have had some free movie passes for everyone.

  16. I guess for me, it's because I started doing this with my wife the year we got married. She's in a wheelchair and can deal with several hours in a line, but there's no real way to sit out for probably more than 5 hours. Lack of the easy ability to find a bathroom for starters aside from health reasons (easier to get sick than most). Up until this year it wasn't a problem with people messing up a fun thing.

So yeah it does make me mad that people feel the need to get out there so early. It's not just that I can't, I won't either. That's not fun to me. Even if it was just me. But yeah it's been basically a tradition. It's kind of like having a place you like going to and they decide to tear it down and turn it into a teenager hang out. You can't go there anymore without feeling weird, and really why would you want to?

As for having Thanksgiving in front of Best Buy (or any other store) versus at home, I guess I pick home. I've got a dad that lost a leg in the korean war. He's 75 and wouldn't be out for these sales. I don't know how many more years I have to be with him for holidays, so I prefer to spend them with family. I guess I wrap up my thoughts about that with other people.

I appreciate the answers. Like I said, I'm not slamming anybody for doing it. I just don't understand it and just dislike the idea that my wife and myself may have to give up a tradition just because people are taking things a little to far in my opinion. Yeah that's the main thing my questioning stems from, plus I feel that people doing this will eventually cause the store to totally change how they do Black Friday. Eventually crowds could get to be too much even for the stores. They almost were this year in a lot of places.

  17. Are you being serious or joking around? Because obviously if you really wanted something, you would have gotten there earlier, up in the line towards the first people where you are almost garaunteed a ticket.

If she got there at 10:30, and noticed there were 75 people in front of her. She should have noticed that those 75 people were standing out there for a reason, probably to get the good deal tha she was wanting. Also, should have realized that there are very very slim chance of there being 75 of these laptops that she wanted. So like I said, if she really wanted it, she would have lined up earlier, or not have stayed at all and went elsewhere like an Office Depot where there were laptops for not much more and barely anybody in line.

I'm more the type to say if I really want something I'll just spend extra when it's not on sale. A full day to stand in line for a chance to buy something is not my cup of tea. Time is money to me. That was the point of the question I posed. Why do people want to throw away Thanksgiving or anything else to stand in line for a day or longer just to save a few bucks? There were some ok deals, but nothing worth a full day of waiting or even multiple days in some people's case.

Like I was asking, was it the hype this year that did it to people, or what happened? I've been getting out there for 8 years now. This was my 8th year. All previous 7 years, I didn't see people willing to throw out Thanksgiving to stand in line. The most I ever saw was 20 something and that's because I got there at 3:30am instead of 3:00am. Every previous year, the longest anyone was out was around 12am or 1am. That's fine and I might would do that if there was something I want. I just can not understand anyone getting in line before that time. I can't do anything but ask "why?" to that.

  18. Yeah I didn't get the $379 laptop from BB. I got there at 7:45 and ended up being 124 in line. My friend got the camera. I asked the first person in line how early they got there they said 5am Thursday-Thanksgiving day. They had the Taco Bell next door for their dinner. I'd rather have turkey dinner with the family. Well I'm still going to look online and in the print ads now thru Christmas to see if I can get a good deal on a HP laptop.

Try egghead and tigerdirect. They both have been having real good deals. Earlier this year they had a far better laptop for $399. That extra $100 would be worth it versus the celeron laptop offered on Black Friday. But of course there's shipping charges too.
