Perimeter Perusing at Target (Target Clearance Deals) - 2007
jbdinos replied to 1angelnhvn's topic in Offline Hot Deals
For my target it doesn't even show as a valid number at all It's rare that I put in my target's zipcode and the DCPI and get it to show anything other than the "we don't recognize" message. -
For those of you that order from here quite often, how long do the gift certificates last before they expire? For instance if I get them for my DD and SIL for Christmas, can I get them now and expect them to have a while to use them? Money is very tight for them and this may be the only way they can enjoy a few meals out if we slip them in the stockings and they have a restaurant they really enjoy that 25.00 cert is only 3.00... TIA

I would count them as gifts, and definitely let them unwrap them. The older they get the more they actually want more clothes for Christmas even if they don't need them. Also, my DGD3 wants clothes already and as far back as I can remember she has ooohhhed and aaahhhed over clothes and how cute they are. Many times if I know a family doesn't have a lot of money for extras and I am getting gifts, whether Christmas or a birthday we've been invited to, I will say "I don't know about you but my kids have way too many toys, is there any kind of clothes they need?" People look at me as practical but a lot of parents appreciate it. and a PP said something about us being responsible to provide clothes, true.. but Christmas isn't supposed to be all about fun... it's the true spirit and meaning and giving gifts to others, whether clothes toys or movies or whatever.... once we feel "obligated" to only get toys, wish lists, etc. it really puts a lot of unneeded stress on the givers. We should give because we WANT to and we should give things we WANT to give... otherwise it just isn't as much fun to fill up the floor under the tree.. IMO

which target do you shop at? I am also in your approximate area... was wondering if you had seen the HP lego sets at whichever ones you go to? -

Darn... I have checked and checked the two targets closest to me and cannot find any of the HP lego sets... my DS10 would go crazy for one of those, he is a lego maniac..... I did however get a different gazebo at 75% off last week... it was originally 103.xx.... I keep checking the lego aisles and clearance endcaps each time we go to any target though, just in case... never know when one of you have hidden a stash that might come out of hiding one day I apparently look like a thief because I go in target and they watch me and follow me so I can't stash anything anyway... might be the big coupon book, they hate that... LOL -
Any college or professional sports teams in your area he is interested in? Depending on the team/arena tickets to a game maybe? Some areas and/or teams though would be way out of price range, IMO. I have boys that will be 11 and 12 in the two-three weeks following Christmas. They are easy and know we can't afford expensive items. Honestly new games for their current gaming systems would thrill them. The sports Jersey would as well. Last year they wanted Colts Jerseys for their bdays. So we got a good deal on two and did that and then we added small things like colts watches, pencils ,etc. If he is sports minded he might like things like that. Or even framed pics of his favorite players for his room maybe? For stockings, I agree on the axe and any other personal hygiene items that he might like. We do that, socks, sometimes boxers or sleep pants, and small things like pencils, note pads, keychains, wallet, etc. And yes, girls are easier, we have 2 girls/3 boys.... little boys and all girls are easier than boys once they outgrow hot wheels... lol If I think of other things I will come back but it looks like you are getting lots of good ideas!

Of our 5 kids only one is old enough to be married .. and just barely.. she is 19 and so is my SIL. When they first got married I told her that she wouldn't get but one or two gifts for Christmas because she is an adult (and mommy). However, this turned out to be way too hard for me to live up to... So I do count numbers of gifts and our granddaughter gets the same amount as the 4 younger kids at home. What I do for DD and SIL is to get them each the same amount as each other and enough joint gifts to make the total the same as the other kids. So if they little ones get 5 each, DD/SIL might each get 3 of their own and 2 joint gifts to share. This is going to be our second Christmas with SIL and I do not enjoy buying things for him as I do my daughter. It's not that we don't like him, we just don't know him as well as we do her. We had her 17 years longer than we've had him... LOL I mentioned it to her that I felt bad that his gifts weren't as "nice" as hers and she told me she totally understood that I love her more... I was like "WOW" she really IS an adult now! And she told me to not worry about it but at 19 I do feel as though they are still kids, having a rough time with her not being able to work due to being really sick with her current pregnancy, etc. So each year I do the same for them as the other kids and they get the same number of gifts but I don't spend as much on him, just because nothing just hits me to be something he will love to have. But each year I remind them that if I stop finding good deals or when the other kids get old enough to move away that things will have to change.... And of course the new DGD is due in December... so I just got her some new clothes , but I told DD that it is her responsibilty to tell our DGD3 that next year she has to share Mamaw and Papaw's money with her lil sis. I am shocked that if someone wanted to count gifts like that, that he was doing it out in the open though.... rude and childish I believe. But sometimes men do mature at a slower rate than women do (no offense men on here... but SOME men is all I mean)

You can get more than 2 if you have more than one internet browser as the browser stores the cookies that won't allow it to print more than twice. So I got 2 from explorer and 2 from firefox. Definitely heading to CVS later this week. I was there earlier but needed a cartridge for my printer so I just got other stuff because I had ECB's ready to expire and a 5 off 30 ready to expire also.... Thanks for the reminder on these!!! -
I vote for solid purple and I am 38. But I am rarely if ever a "flower" person. My oldest DD is 19 and she likes the purple too, wrinkled her nose at the flower ones... lol.... With solid she can add clear glasses or glasses with something purple on them over the years if she starts to not like want totally purple anymore. Personally I wish I had the $$ to redo my dishes, appliances, etc and I would go with bright colors as well... :-) Hope this all helps you decide... whichever one you decide I think I would see about attaching a gift receipt just in case and make sure she knows you won't be offended if she returns them.
-
That is cool how you worked it out.... Can I ask out of curiosity how you will decide wether the children will be Jewish or Christian? Or will you expose them to both and let them decide? Honestly I know next to nothing about the Jewish religion so I am just curious... I hope I am not offending you by asking. :-)

They had a nice step ladder last year too. And our local Lowes still had a skid of them on Saturday. I had stopped to get one for our grandfather for Christmas at the bigger town I went to for BF shopping and they were out The next day I stopped in our local store and there they were.... he LOVED it and hasn't fallen off of it like he did his old rickety wooden one.

Here is what I sent Walmart today: I am extremely upset that Walmart's attorneys saw fit to send an email "advising" the forum owner of www.gottadeal.com that if the black friday ad was "leaked" that they would consider legal action. This is absurd. Not only do you get free advertisement and make extra sales by everyone discussing and getting excited about black friday, you also make customers happy that we see the ad early. Should the ad NOT get leaked due to your undue pressure on the owners and/or moderators of gottadeal, AND/OR if it is leaked and you choose legal action, please let this email become your advance warning that the next time your management in my local store is rude to me, the next time prices ring up 20 cents more than the shelf price, and especially the next time I have coupons and I have an embarrassing hassle trying to redeem them that I will most definitely consider legal action against your corporation. I will go further to say that when I use my debit card, credit card, or a personal check and your cashier's "leak" my name by mentioning it aloud that I will have no choice but to have my attorney contact you and consider legal action. If you want all of the thousands of members of gottadeal, along with the gottadeal black friday guests, and all of their combined families and friends to boycott Walmart on black friday and perhaps beyond, that is your choice. However if you want to ensure you keep those thousands and thousands of customers we would like to see an immediate and public retraction of your threats against gottadeal.

I like the 3 gifts for 3 wisemen.... we like to get the kids one really big gift and the rest nice stuff and therefore it limits the number of gifts anyway. We normally do 5-7. We only have one that still believes in Santa and this could be his last year (he's 8 now). Maybe once he no longer believes we could do one big gift (to represent Jesus giving his life for us) and 3 more nice, but smaller gifts for the 3 wisemen... I love it!!! THANKS!!!!

My feedback sent as well.

Same at our house. Our kids, DD19, DD13, DS11, DS10, DS8, and DGD3 will all get 6 gifts each. Not sure how we ended up at 6, was supposed to be 5 but not sure where that number came from either. I don't count money because no one cares as long as it's not a huge gap on that end of the spectrum. But we take turns opening and you better believe they count. The $ spent is hugely different, however the "value" is about the same for each of them. Of course I start shopping for Christmas on Dec 26 and continue throughout the year. All of our kids are done except DS8. That is because I was getting his birthday presents out last weekend and accidentally wrapped one of his Christmas gifts up for his party. It was a stressful day and I didn't look at my notebook... my fault.. lol.... Anyway, thanks to clearance sales and gottadeal listings, we end up getting the kids things they don't ask for. I live with them and I know what all of them like and don't like. Christmas wish lists end up being things that are advertised or "hot" at the moment. But for DS10, he loves to build and do art of any type. He has never asked for an erector set, but I've seen what he can do with legos and so he has an erector set for a car that has ground effects lighting, etc. and plays music. We know he will love it although he has not asked for it. This way Christmas is always a surprise, we don't get hit with a ton of disappointed faces if we can't afford everything they want, etc. They make wish lists for their birthdays though, which are in January, February, April, and October. And they make wish lists for grandma, grandpa, aunts, etc. DS13 did ask for a digital camera... she was smart enough to ask me in February when I called home and told DH to meet me at walmart because I found some good clearance deals and wanted his opinoin. She called back and said that all she really wants is a digital camera. Smart girl... found one on clearance shortly after that so she will be happy. We don't want them caught up in the commercialism more than the meaning of Christmas so they are expected to ask for reasonable items or if they are wanting something larger they can say "I am also saving $ to buy ...... " That way they appreciate the big things more. I have never had one of them ask why they don't do a list for us or anything, they just accept it. And because they do, I think they enjoy it more than opening each gift hoping to find that one "have to have" gift and possibly being disappointed. OH and everything at our house is from "Santa". They all know except DS8 and of course the 3 year old DGD. But they just accept it and they all say thanks to us in private but say how nice Santa is in front of the DS8. I am afraid it's his last year too :-( He is too smart.

Our Sunday School class at church does this. We only do a $5.00 limit and no one wants to have a low number. We equally have gifts that are valued well over $5.00 that are "must haves" and total gag gifts that no one really wants. However, no one goes expecting anything but a fun time due to some of the men in our class. They can make any gag gift even funnier if they receive it or if they receive a "woman's" gift. No one knows who brought each gift. It's fun to be the person that brought the must have gift but also fun to see who gets stuck with your own gag gift if you go that route too. I think the beauty of it is that you do it solely to have fun with it, not to actually come home with something nice. I remember a year or two ago one of the men forgot to buy a gift till it was too late and the stores were closing (we live in a very small town). So he went to the grocery store and came out with a 3 lb roll of summer sausage. The lady that got it was just horrified as she had the nicest gift and it was "stolen" from her so she went ahead and opened the next gift and it was summer sausage. DH was last and he took the summer sausage so she could take the present back she had originally. They all thought DH was so nice and truly he wanted it because we were having a party the next day and we were to bring the meat/cheese/cracker snack tray... LOL Always a good time as long as no one expects anything other than a good time! You can always take the "bad" gift and recycle it back to the same group the next year....

Perimeter Perusing at Target (Target Clearance Deals) - 2007
jbdinos replied to 1angelnhvn's topic in Offline Hot Deals
I went to two targets on Friday (I live at least an hour from the one closest to me, a "regular" target and it was an additional 30-40 minutes to the next one, a "super" target). I found the following: Boys cargo shorts, originally 13.99, down to 2.24-3.24 Boys t-shirts, originally 9.99, down to 2.74. Boys boxers, originally 9.99, down to 1.48. Twin comforter set with bedskirt and sham, originally 59.99, down to 14.98. Flannel '07 sheet sets, all sizes, originally 19.99, down to 4.98. There were a lot of comforters originally 39.99-59.99, down to 4.98-6.98 (didn't get them, but wanted to add it in) Drill bit sets (titanium), originally 17.00, down to 3.98. Black and Decker battery powered clamps, originally 29.99, down to 7.48. Michelin wiper blades/arms, originally 7.99, down to 1.74. Battery charger, originally 59.99, down to 14.98 Fan, wall mountable or for desk top, originally 19.99, down to 4.98. Also found 1 pack of juice boxes and there were numerous other clearance items I was not interested in at 75% off... air filters, digital cameras, radios, etc. These deals were at the Columbus and Southport locations -
You could print a priority mail label online and that would come with a free delivery confirmation # so you could track the package. You can set the "from" up to be from anyone, anywhere. So it could be from "santa claus" at the "north pole" or whatever you want to do.... and you can track it with the number to be sure it was delivered. ONly 4.60 but peace of mind if you want to be sure. Another option would be to simply get someone to pay a teenager 5.00 or so to put on an elf hat and knock on the door and hand it to them personally. Make sure it's someone that they don't know and if they ask who it's from, have the "elf" say "why, santa of course"
