Yes you can surf the net on them and you would be using the router. I bought a cheap generic tablet for my kids last spring, I did not get it for them to surf emails gaming etc. I got it for them to use as an ereader, at the time it was cheaper than an ereader. Using it as an ereader worked out fine after I had a friend jail break it. It did not use the Google market to get apps which was needed to download the Nook app and the Kindle app. They can surf the net, but the touch screen is not the greatest. It takes them a while to actually get to the page they are looking for. Gaming is out of the question as is streaming Netflix or even Amazon. They were able to watch movies, that I had downloaded to an SD card. For us it worked out fine, I paid $70 for it at a time when ereaders were more money. Now that ereaders have come down in price I would not do it again. I have looked at the Kindle Fire coming out, and I have pre-ordered it for my Husband for Xmas. He is away from us during the week and it will give him something to do during his off times from work. The Fire is a Tablet and based on the reviews it looks like it will be giving some competition to the Ipad but without that price tag. It will not be able to do everything the Ipad can do but it has very good reviews. At release it is $199. According to the reviews it has flash, you can surf the net, emails, download apps from the Amazon store which has tons of apps available. The big selling point for me was that it will stream movies from Amazon (its free streaming for us as an Amazon Prime member) which is what DH whats to be able to do. I am looking at tablets also for DS15 but the one I am looking at will be used by him to do papers while away from home and his computer. It has a keyboard docking station that actually turns the tablet into a netbook. (I am also not paying for it, this will be his gift from his Grandpa as a combo Bday/Xmas and Grandpa is open to the price which is $500). I hoped I helped a little. I am still learning all this stuff myself

I ordered the Fire for DH so he can stream movies from Amazon. We have prime. I think you will be able to "rent" movies if you don't have prime.

Thanks it works. Can't wait!!

I just ordered the one for DH. I was going to wait until I had all the gift cards, but decided not to in case I can't get it when it is released. I have a balance of $84 left.

That is really weird. I read somewhere that you could stream netflix, not that it matters since I plan on cancelling netflix to go with Amazon streaming since I have Prime and its free. We will keep the 1 dvd at a time with Netflix or may go with redbox or somewhere else.

The Ipod touch has a 2 cameras, the Kindle Fire does not have any cameras. There are tablets that have camera. The touch, fire you can read on (touch is a little small) None of them are like a stand alone ereader that you can read outside in the sun because they have the e-ink. Both of them need wi fi to access the internet. My DS uses his Ipod touch to check emails and FB. There are other tablets out there that are anywhere from $150 - $300 that do similar you would just have to compare. I am getting my DH a Kindle fire so that he can stream netflix (I heard you will be able to) and stream from Amazon. He does not need a camera, just something to do when he is down at his Dad's apt. during the week for work. The one thing I do wish was that the Fire had an sd slot so that he could record movies to watch when he does not have wi fi. I would love to find a tablet in the price range of the Kindle Fire with an SD slot that could stream AMazon and Netflix. We have a lowend tablet but it cannot do either, we got it for the kids to use as an ereader. Hope I was some help

I love all the excitement leading up to Black Friday. The lists, the ads the preparations. On the actual day I love spending time with my Sister and my Daughter while we brave the crowds for our deals that we learned about on GOTTADEAL.com. We usually leave on Thanksgiving around 4pm and don't come home until around 6/7pm Friday. Looking forward to it again this year!!!:eyepoppin

Yes all the Kindle ereaders have an "experimental browser" The Kindle Fire has "Amazon Silk cloud-accelerated browser" I have the Nook 1st gen and it also has a browser but I find it very slow.

I think it has already started and it is supposed to be good on everything now for the holidays. -
Maybe that will mean there will be a deal on the Transformer on BF:tongue1: We can only hope. DH was with me today and really liked the Transformer. I personally am not an Apple lover, but was told that it would fit my DS needs for school. Since he is working so hard, we are trying to help out by making life easier anyway we can. If anyone hears anything let me know, I am on pins and needles waiting for the ads to come out lol Thanks Reiny

Just went to Best Buy to check out the tablets. I plan on getting the Kindle Fire for DH to use when he stays at his Dads during the week (no cable) he can at least stream Amazon movies. We were looking at the Ipad for DS15 for combo 16th bday and xmas present. We checked out the Asus transformer recommended by someone earlier and think its wonderful. It will work perfectly for DS. We are looking for a tablet that he will be able to run a word processing program on for school. He has long bus rides going to swim meets, and also has alot of papers to write for his AP class. The asus comes with a processor and has capabilities for expanded storage unlike the ipad. If it goes on sale will be very happy. Thanks for the recommendation.

I see on the page that they are now giving a $10 credit. NOw I have to pre order the Call of Duty they are giving a $10 credit towards a Turtle Beach headset whih I wont pay $100 for Maybe they will do a credit also with it.

A friend has the ipad2 16gb and he watches Netflix, Hulu, TV.com and something else I can't remember. He said he was also able to use the ipad to remote to his office and fix a problem there. I like that Hulu and TV.com can be used. I am looking at the Fire for DH so take advantage of the Amazon Prime free streaming. He is away from us during the week staying at his Dad's. Dad does not have cable just the local stations, so this will give him something to do at night. Plus he will be able to go online if he wants instead of using his phone which he says the screen is just too small.

Our contract won't be up until December of 2012:( I guess we will look to see what is out there next year on BF.
