  1. Thanks guys! I'll have to look at it closer... but a quick check... no table saw.. Oh well - maybe I'll find some other "big boy toy" for dear hubby...
  2. How funny! It was near Douglas ... near an elementary school .. I LOVED it there... Grandma would take me shopping at Piggly Wiggly ... my aunt walked EVERY where ... we even walked to the zoo if I remember right!
  3. That's kinda what I figured... wish we had a Menards! My folks have one up in Chicago... I used to go to Racine all the time when I was a girl - my grandparents lived on Lasalle - over near the lake!
  4. Not sure where to put this ... Does anyone know what kind of deals Harbor Freight does for BF? I'm hoping to find a table saw for hubby... I didn't see one at ACE ... of course Home Depot, Lowes or Sears may have one... (Sears is probably better huh?)
  5. Cookies and milk... baby carrots for Rudolph and Co. My "kids" are 22 and 17 and we are STILL doing this... laugh.. When the kids were little "Santa" would leave a thank you note... then one Christmas my oldest recognized "Santa's" handwriting looked suspiciously like Daddy's.... He came to me and said it "confirmed his suspicions" .. he was 8 and had a large vocabulary... laugh... He told me not to worry he wouldn't tell his little brother..
  6. I'd like to know too!! I love browing in there ... also it's the place I can find oddball hardware things ... Not to mention overalls for hubby (yes THAT is weird... I think it's a midlife crisis to live in the '70s as a teenager again... )
  7. Wow .. that stuffing sounds WONDERFUL... and easy too!!! I may just try it .. not so much because I want it out of the bird .. but because it would be easier than getting all the "stuff" in the bird... laugh... I may just sneak that recipe in on the sweet potatoes and see what he thinks! Pushing the envelope just a little bit to get something new on the table! Thanks!!!!
  8. Thank you!! We're SO excited about this wedding! Nope she won't be with us this year ... plenty of time for that in years to come. She lives about 4 hours from us... and they (son and DIL) will be living near us... not her folks... Plus I'm SURE her parents want as much time as possible with her in the upcoming year! She is going to meet us for a couple days at Christmas tho' when we drive up to Chicago. She's not met any of my family - and my folks are getting to the point we aren't sure they'll be able to travel to the wedding... So this may be her only chance to meet them before the "big day" I usually just boil DH's sweet potatoes, then slice and throw in the oven w/butter and brown sugar.... He seems to like them that way. My mom fixes w/marshmallow and nuts... he'll eat them that way - but prefers the way I fix them. I'll have to look for the vanilla-glazed - he may enjoy that. My husband's family NEVER puts "dressing" in the bird... in fact fairly early in our marriage I had Thanksgiving at our house.... after that my sister-in-law ALWAYS would have it.. (before we moved out of state)... I found out later it was because of my stuffing in the bird... laugh... oh well!!
  9. Years ago I worked in furniture retail ... unless things have changed GREATLY ... it's a VERY slow time of year.... There's a bump in dining room stuff over Veteran's day - in prep for Thanksgiving... Then for Christmas... only very specific things would sell.. Rocking Chairs Recliners Hope Chests Gun Cabinets ..... That's about it ... I could see how entertainment centers might be added to it - now that "console" TV's aren't the norm....
  10. We stop at Krispy Kreme... buy a couple dozen and munch between stores...
  11. Well this will be the last year it will be "just the four of us" ... my oldest son is getting married in October 2007 .... We have a very set menu ... I learned a LONG time ago - no changes to the Thanksgiving menu.... Turkey Stuffing (in the bird) Mashed Potatoes Gravy Green Bean Casserole Cranberry Sauce ... homemade and jellied from the can Sweet Potoates for DH - he's the only one who eats them Deviled eggs Broccoli Salad Rolls Pumpkin and Pecan Pie Not the most inventive of menu's ... I've TRIED to change it up - but it gets shot down everytime... TONS of leftovers ...
  12. We have small towns in the Hill Country of Texas that have light displays... you can drive from town to town and check them out.. on weekends some of the towns have festivals and stuff... we love to do that on a Saturday night. Our church also has a "Road to Bethleham" program we do the first weekend in December. We have it out on our 20 acres... we don't have a building yet so we've got LOTS of space... it's at night with music and narrative... the story of Jesus birth.. we have SO much fun doing it! Lots of lights... different scenes... angels in an Oak tree .... we keep trying to find live sheep but we're not too successful... so we end up having goats.. Last year one escaped.... too funny watching our pastor and others trying to catch the goat in the dark while the show went on...
