  1. These seem to have gone the way of the dodo, but does anybody remember the good ol' BFs when it seemed like every store was giving you something just for walking in or included just for making ANY purchase? Now it seems like if there are any freebies or giveaways, and they are scant, are tied to a big ticket item. I understand why, I'm sure plenty of folks just did "free stuff" runs, but what was your favorite giveaway or freebie on BF? Was it tied to a specific purchase, given away for just making any purchase, or just there for showing up?
  2. A good, quality balaclava can do wonders.

Long underwear, thermal boot socks and good gloves as well are pretty much essential. I'd definetly recommend the higher quality, moisture wicking kind on all fronts. Throw some of those "hot hands" heatpacks in your gloves and boots too.

Remember to layer, that way you can strip down once in the store. And remember, when buying thermal, cold weather clothes, you get what you pay for.

  3. Scouting the place so you know where everything will be, having buddies and getting there early are the keys.

A lot of people make the giant mistake of getting there nice and early and going "Oh crap, I want a big TV... I need a cart!" and stopping to get one. Don't. Bring a buddy to sit with whatever you want once you have them secured, then go get your cart. Multiple buddies means you can all fan out and get items for each other.

  4. Nobody is going to try with my size and stature, but I would put up a reasonable amount of resistance for certain.

But actual fist-fighting? C'mon. No way. I've had a few cases of stepping close in on a person or two though that decided my cart was a sales rack and asking them to put it back.

Generally they didn't even realize what they had done, and put it back :)

  5. Best Buy. I've had nothing but smarmy, unhelpful service at Circuit City.

Went in for a BF portable DVD player one year only to be laughed at when I asked for it, told that it was garbage and that I needed to buy the one that was 2.5x as expensive if I didn't want something that was going to break.

He literally laughed. I told him off, did the same with his manager, and left.

At least Best Buy, the people are too incompetant to bother trying. That is, until it's "Buy 8 issues of this magazine and a product replacement plan and 300 other things" time.

  6. One guy in my usual group is hoping and praying for a laptop, and with the advent of Vista, it would make sense for them to be dumping some at low prices this year. Didn't Circuit City have a $199 no rebate last year?

Other than that, MP3 players seem to be a favorite as well as digital camcorders and cameras since they are definetly coming down in price. Other hot ticket items, as always, are media (DVD boxsets especially) and the like.
