  1. How do you know she lied and wanted the TV for herself? It was first thing in the morning. She could have easily scanned it and lied and said the more expensive price. It was 1st thing in the morning - a new shift. She would have had to known the TVs were on sale and if she knew I imagine the rest of the "team" knew already too so why lie? If it was some sort of scheme so she and her coworkers could keep all the TVs for themselves, they probably could have legally limited the quantity of TVs you purchased.

I do a lot of shopping in the early morning so I know - people aren't awake. You should have just said "can you scan this and tell me the price." Who cares about when the markdown team is going to get around to it - that's not your problem. Sounds like this girl was half awake and you were being a little timid. I dragged the guy over the E-Book readers so he could "double check" the markdown price for me.

  2. I think the cashiers get in trouble if they take "wrong" coupons. The other day I was in Walmart and it was taking forever and then the cashier stops to read my coupons. I was annoyed but I tried to remember that in this economy everyone has to look out for their job. The cashiers don't want to get written up for accepting bad coupons and I'm sure if they get written up enough they will lose their jobs. I'm not suggesting you are scamming but a lot of people are - so they need to be cautious.
  3. Does anyone think they'll mark the Valentine's Day stuff 50% off on or before Valentine's Day??

Also, the above theory...I think it might work in theory but a few things to consider

    1. You return the item that's 50% off to the Target store #2, and someone else buys it b/c they are willing to pay 50% off for the item.

    2. You should consider how far away are the Target stores and how much is your time and the cost of gas worth to you? I mean if you return this item to the 2nd Target store are you going to take time out of your day EVERY day and spend gas money to go there EVERYDAY to make sure the item you returned is still there AND marked 75% off?? If store #1 has a lot of the item you want marked down and is closer to your home, perhaps you could just go the THAT store everyday and monitor it? This way you're at least working with a store that has a few of the item in stock.

I'm sure many people who post in this thread will tell you how they've been fortunate enough to find someone's "stash" that was hidden or they've grabbed an item that was returned and on sale.

  4. I noticed that my Target had a lot of "sets" of PJs and had broken then up and where charging for each piece. Think it had more to do with the fact that once the packages were broken it was hard to keep track of them (they had orginally come with a ribbon tied around all the pieces). In some cases whoever had marked them down put "as is" tickets but with some, the tickets were just different - you could tell they were special made for these items.

    It can't hurt to try.

  5. On Yahoo and NBC.com they are saying the pregnant woman and her unborn baby are fine.

While Walmart might need a better BF policy, in the end it was the people waiting outside who were acting like animals. I've gone to concerts where people are pushing and acting crazy - and there's security and people have seats they paid for - yet they still act like animals pushing and stepping on people to try and get a better view. I know alot of people dislike Walmart but you can't blame them for people's behavior.

While there are bad parts in all cities, in general Long Island isn't really considered dangerous. How are the employees inside supposed to know that the crowd is crazy? I'm sure all the big stores had crowds waiting outside and yet they didn't think things would be bad enough that the police should be called. This could have just as easily happened at Best Buy or Target.

  6. Ok I was looking at the laptops Dell has on sale and I mainly want to use it to run Photoshop and surf the web. Are you saying the 3 laptops they have for under $700 aren't really good for that or worth it??

Honestly I'm not ready to line up outside of Best Buy or Circuit City or any of the stores at 10pm or so the night before and I know usually a lot of those doorbuster deals aren't available online b/c they want to drive in-store traffic.

Thank you in advance for your help.

  7. I don't think those carts are employee things...at my Target they are usually filled to the brim. They don't pay the employees enough to purchase all that stuff. I don't mind that the employees take the stuff for themselves. It's the nature of the game. They are paying for the merchandise just like you and I would and for the work they do and the pay they receive, it's one of the few perks you get! I've worked in retail and it's not an easy job and it doesn't pay the big bucks. The employees are people like the rest of us, with families who need things too!
  8. Bellsandbabies I don't know if you're correct that a lot of sellers drive prices down.

Like I mentioned, I go to Ebay specifically for bargains. Many times I'll see the many of the same items being sold, sellers aren't selling them, they aren't lowering their prices and they think that I can't add and figure out that the someone else is charging more for an item but cheaper shipping and vice versa.

You and I'm sure others are fortunate that you have made a success but I'm guessing a lot of people aren't doing as well as you. If they were they wouldn't be constantly complaining about Ebay fees (which are the cost of doing business for ANY business) and trying to get buyers to pay this ridiculous shipping fees.

KBs I do have to agree with you! Ebay was a lot more fun back in the day when you could get unique stuff. Now a days though it seems a lot of people think it's like a garage sale. My friend told me I should sell my CDs on Ebay. I told her I couldn't be bothered and I'd just donate them to the local library!

  9. Floridasunshine - thank you for the scoop (about why people buy when they can go to the store). I guess I forgot that everyone doesn't live so close to stores.

As for how much is too much on shipping...it all depends on the item. I've been eyeing some Disney DVDs. I'm trying to figure out why exactly someone thinks I would pay $6.95 for shipping. I can order the same DVD from legit businesses and pay 99 cents to ship or at most maybe $2.95. Trust me, I'm 99% sure if I ordered it from Ebay and paid $6.95 shipping - the item would be shipped via Media Mail (for MAYBE $2.00) and it would be in a manilla envelope - you can buy a pack of these for $1 at the $1 store!

Also, too high shipping = price of item + shipping = more than I'd pay if I got in my car and went to buy the merchandise in a store.

I'll be honest, my friends and I who shop on Ebay are looking for deals. With Yahoo, Google, My Simon and other shopping searches, it's easy to compare prices. Just like sellers are looking to make the largest profit for the lowest expense, as a buyer I'm looking for the lowest price with the best service!
