  1. I have good news then.

What you will need is 3 things:

    • Upgrade your cell phone service adding T-Mobile Internet which is $20/mo for unlimited use.
    • You need a cell phone which offers EDGE, if you do not know if yours does call T-Mobile.
    • You will need an adapter to connect o your laptop, they cost $35 - $50 and can be found on eBay.

Most importantly you need to have a cell phone which has EDGE capabilities.

Please call T-Mobile and ask them if you have this?

Or just get a sidekick! lol.

RossMan obviously knows more than my about using internet when you travel frequently. If you get a wireless network card put into your computer you might be able to connect to other peoples networks. I don't know how legal this is.

  2. Thanks for the info!! And no, he has dial up!! Stupid Bellsouth. I hate it. I always get disconnected. And once we moved out we planned on getting AOL.

I would look into DSL, it's usually cheaper than Cable and most DSL providers now offer prices right around AOL and it's a lot faster.

Also if you guys get digital cable, check with your cable company a lot of times they give you price breaks on either the digital cable or internet if you get both.

  3. Ok, sorry I'm thread jacking this thread...lol.

    Two more ?'s...

What is a wireless G router? (it says it comes with it)

And can you connect a laptop to regular dial up connection? (We would opt for the dial up as we are staying with my father until we get our house built but now plan on moving into an apartment aftet the holidays since they are driving us crazy being here and house isn't even started yet. So, we don't have our own internet connection right now we are on his).

    Thanks in advance!!

Wireless G is a router, which sends the internet signal a specific distance through radiowaves.

If you have cable or DSL you just plug the router into the modem and the signal is transmitted throughout the house and your laptop or computer has a wireless card in it which takes that signal and allows you to surf the web or share files or a printer without any wires connecting your 2 computers.

You can hook the laptop up to dial-up if it has a 56k modem, which I think it does.

If your father in law has his own internet provider already then you could just share his internet and not pay anything for an ISP, just the $15 a month for AOL. Ask your Father in Law who is ISP is? If its cable or DSL, you could share his internet with the router.

  4. I would just skip AOL's clunky software and pay the $449 or $499 whatever it is and get your own internet package elsewhere or go to BB and get the $379 laptop or the $149 desktop. :g_dance:

Why got to BB and pay $379 for the same laptop except it has half the memory and 20 less GB hard drive for the same exact price?

If you do the $14 a month plan that is $180 which makes it $380, the same exact price?

I hate AOL too and won't even use it, but it will save me $70 on the sticker price.

  5. the 14.95 a month broadband deal is the DSL plan. Its minimum dsl though @ 768kbps, but thats way better then dialup at 56kbps lol. DSL is a connection for the computer, like ie. cable, dialup, dsl. :tongue1:

No wonder she's confused. Not trying to be rude, but AOL for broadband could use cable. I don't know how you got that DSL is involved other than it is an option, but there is no minimum, that all depends on your ISP?

  6. Ok, I know you guys are gonna think I'm stupid but I still have no idea what you guys are talking about. :(

AOL has 2 plans. A $15 a month plan, you must already have DSL or Cable internet to use it because all it does is allow you to use the AOL program and email.

The other plan is $23 a month and that is their normal unlimited dial up hours. You must use a modem and phone line to get online.

The CC rebate on their laptops and desktops allows you to take either option.

If you do the $15 a month one for 12 months thats $180 (which is $70 less than the $250 rebate).

If you do the $23 a month one for 12 months thats $276 which is $26 more than the $250 rebate, so it would only benefit you if you chose the broadband plan for $15 a month, unless you already use dial-up and were going to pay it for the whole year anyway.

  7. I called three times to see if I could price match. The sale at O. Depot is all day Fri. and Sat. I may still see if they will do it if I walk in with my reciept and their ad. It can't hurt to try in person.

    what is nvm?

I would call corporate and try to get it straightened out. It probably won't do any good, but its worth a shot.

  8. Called a CC and spoke with the computer department. I would put this in the laptop or desktop thread, but I think it may get lost in there because those threads move really fast.

I want to post this to answer a lot of CC and the AOL deal questions.

First he was very forthcoming with the info and when I mentioned I saw the ad he said, "It's an awesome deal isn't it!" He said in a really exciting voice too.

He answered all my questions. They will do vouchers (the other CC I contacted is as well, but they wouldn't tell me anything about the deals, just that they would do vouchers for high demand items).

The AOL rebate will work like this....The $15 a month broadband plan is a valid option and will get you the $250 rebate.

You can be an existing AOL customer to take advantage of the deal, all you'll be doing is commiting to another year with AOL.

I was so suprised at how forthcoming with the info he was that I forgot to ask how many they had.

He was also curious as to how I found out about it. He didn't care, he was just curious and thought it was really cool that people know about it.

  9. Will he give you first dibs when he opens the doors?

Since you can't touch anything before the store opens could you stand right in front of the item you want and when the door opens you can pick it up?

Otherwise, I would say thanks but no thanks, I have some shopping to do!

  10. From experience, I would not buy cheap DVD media. Go to afterdawn.com and they have a DVD media forum, they are very helpful.

Fuji's Made in Japan are really good and BB usually has a sale on them every other week.

  11. I don't know if this is the same TV, but I couldn't find much, however, I found this discussion of a 42" Viore TV if anyone is interested.

Found this at Amazon it has pictures and specs...

I still don't know if this is the same one, but if so I may have to spend more money that I originally planned to spen on Friday!!

  12. Someone trying to steal my shopping high......... My position was terminated yesterday... :2bat:

My mom's position was terminated last week. It sucks, I hope you find work soon.

  13. Ditto the above, plus they don't know who you are. You could be from corporate doing some sort of qc check, you could be a competitor looking for info, or you could just be a smart shopper!

It's not worth getting in trouble for, even IF they know.

I understand this argument and I think its the most valid, but I'm a 21 year kid with flip-flops and a scraggly beard because I'm too lazy to shave. I don't think I can pass for a corporate guy.

Would be cool though. I could get some ladies at the bar if I could!

    Ahhh the possibilities. :yelclap:

  14. I wish they show you the list. You can attract a lot of customers if you show a list and their movie is on there.

I know it works the other way, but with items like DVDs I don't think it helps.

For example, I know CC, BB and WM are all having sales on DVDs. I have no idea other than the few on the ads which DVDs are on sale. I am going to CC to get the laptop and maybe a monitor and I will just get the DVDs there that I like.

If I knew what WM was selling for $4 then I would not buy my DVDs at CC, but go to WM or WM.com and get them. I think most people will do this based on where they get their DB items or bigger items.

  15. Very true. Why would they encourage you to NOT spend your money today with the particular item at its full price? You better believe they've been told to discount/defer/deflect questions about the BF sales, otherwise their regular sales the last week or two would suffer.

This may be the true reason the stores/chains hate the early leaking of their BF sales ads.....eats doo much into their sales the week(s) prior to BF.

It's about customer service. The average customer knows there are always sales around the hollidays.

If a customer tells you he is just looking then asks about sales, I think that is a tell-tale sign that he isn't planning on buying anything today and they might as well try and get you to spend your money at their sale on not someone else's sale.

I don't buy that he didn't know about BF, I didn't ask him if they were going to have a sale on BF (which I still think he would) I asked if they would have sales during the holliday's which they know they are going to have.

  16. I was at Staples last night just checking out their stock and while I was looking at the laptops a SA came over trying to sell me a laptop.

I told him I was in the market, but just looking right now to see what my options are and he told me about the different laptops.

I asked him if they were going to have any sales coming up for the hollidays and he said, "I really don't know that's up to corporate and we don't know if they are going to have any sales." Come on you know you are going to have a massive sale on Friday! I'm sure every store has had a staff meeting to go over the plan on that day!

To me it's stupid to say they don't know if they are having any sales because if I was ignorant I would see a WM or CC ad and be like wow and think Staples isn't doing anything.

  17. I went into Office Depot today because last week they were having a clearance on their laptops and I wanted to see if they lowered their prices. They are selling stuff for 25% off, but this one laptop is not selling. All they have left is the floor model and they have this plastic clip holding it down in the corner and it's way too tight so it bent the laptop. Nobody wants it because it's bent.

It's a $1200 laptop and its already down to $800. I am trying to see if it will be there as close to BF as possible because they just want to clear the space from the display so they can put their new models up. I think I might be able to work a deal out too because the guy seemed willing to bring the price down.

I would suggest just going to your local stores and seeing if you can work deals because most places want to clear space from their shelves for BF.
