  1. I think this will be the "hot" tech tool. http://www.archos.com/products/ta/archos_101it/index.html?country=us&lang=enCan do all the things netbooks can, except faster and with a better battery life. Kicks ipad as its half the price, has webcam ( ipad doesn't) has usb port, has micro sd slot and can do flash (ipad can't) has wireless and you can tether it to your cell phone.
  2. Having been a single parent raising three kids, I know what's it like to try to accomplish every day tasks such as food shopping or xmas shopping with infants in hand. You are there, like everybody else trying to stretch your shopping dollar as far as it will go. I would not bring any child with me on Black Friday just from the fear that a few shoppers act like immature twits and put them and others in danger. I mean, my God last year some employee at Walmart -working for like 7 bucks an hour gets trampled and killed just because greed of a few assholes. From my observation, it gets worst each year- I know everyone of you have a story of some jerk who cut in front of you in line, stole your shopping cart or items from it, sold tickets for hot price items or pulled up to the front of the line just as it was filiing in and dropped off ma and pa, who then proceded to merge into the line in front of others who have been waiting there for hours. On that basis alone I would avoid taking children- its like watching adults behave badly. With that said, perhaps Black Friday really should to be the start of the season of kindness, maybe a few nice words of encouragement to the single parent in line could go a long way to making the season more enjoyable for everybody. I am sure others here can think of hundreds of different acts of kindness that can be done. Let's face it, the economy is in the crapper and nobody has a lot of money this year so all that's left is the spirit of the season.
  3. Is the Compaq Presario with Windows 7 that is on sale for 239 a good deal or a great deal? I tried searching the web for CQ5210F but it being a relatively new computer, there is not much out there in the way of reviews. Obviously there are better boxes out there, but the 239 price range is what I am looking to pay. Any geeks have any thoughts on this, (besides buying an apple)?
  4. Looks like you won't have to camp out at CC as the deals will be on the website: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081014/ap_on_bi_ge/circuit_city_pricing_2
  5. I am hearing that Circuit City is in trouble finanical wise and that this holiday season is make or break for CC, anybody else hear this?? I give props to CC for their on-line shopping w\free ship can't beat it.
  6. Tell her you already bought her a Christmas gift so you can't afford a wedding gift, see how she takes that.

    Laptops

Most of these kids throw their purchased laptop up on ebay for 50 -100 bucks more. They start appearing about 20 minutes after BB opens. If you miss out and are willing to pay a few bucks more, its worth checking out.
  8. After years of staring at the catalog, I actually ordered my "personalized" Christmas cards from Miles Kimball. Haven't gotten them yet, but to be prepared this early is a first. Maybe I'll address them on Thanksgiving day.
  9. I wouldn't bring anything over 50 bucks. Living in the city only a fool would carry around a large amount of money, you are just asking for trouble. Get a cheap free checking account from TCF or Walmu, dump the money in there and use a debit card. With the crowds around, the minute you pull out your wad of cash, eye's light up all up and down the line and there is always some a**hole crackhead who stops at nothing to take from you what he thinks he deserves. Don't make a fun trip turn into a night mare...protect yourself. If you know you are going to be hitting Khols, Best Buy, Circuit City - now is the time to apply for those credit cards then payoff the balances when the bills come in. Some cards like Best Buy give you like six months of interest free - so you can pay a little bit, keep the rest in an interest earning account then on the fifth month pay off the balance and you have made a couple of dollars in interest. As they say...you work hard for your money....so shouldn't your money work hard for you? Here's hoping everybody has a safe, fun and enjoyable coming holiday...
  10. I think you'll start seeing some decent deals now, due to the economy, I think stores will try to lure the public into shopping earlier and try to move goods now.
  11. Well technically, their copyright laws only extend to scanning the actual ad. If I were to list the stuff, that does not constitute copyright violations. I mean the ace hardware ad was pulled but you can still see a listing of it here on the site. Besides you know some other site will put up the ad the minute it comes out. It must be getting close to BF once the fancy pant lawyers start sending out the 'warnings":yup:
  12. Probably go light, coat, gloves, hat, dunkin dounuts coffe, maybe a turkey sandwich or two, jogging shoes, ipod, and debit card.

    BB credit card

I do agree about the customer service, my wife and I were standing looking at 50" televisions and not one person asked if we need help or have any questions. You really have to go into that store knowing what you want. My wife hates going in there, and unless they have some block buster special on BF such as a 42 inch 1080 for under 500 bucks I'm not going.But...if they do have that.....well I guess I'll be the third guy in line.
  14. If you are sure you want a Mac go to the apple website and hit the education tab. Just select a college and you will receive a education discount, they don't do any checking. Its worth saving a hundred or so, and sometimes they have deals where they will throw in a ipod and I think they have financing too. I have both a Mac and PC and agree with the above statement. Figure out what kind of software you will need - MS Office, etc. What copies you already have and how much it will cost you to make the move. I will say this. My mabook boots and loads 10 times faster than Windows- I don't have to run virus software on it and it seems to me to be faster wireless than my laptop. One draw back is every once in a while a web page will show up a little funky but other than that its all goodl. I have Mac Office and have no problem going from mac to pc with a flash drive of documents and pictures. It is my personal belief that the lifespan on a note book is about 3 years before it becomes absolete whereas a desktop will last a year or two longer. With the Mac you can boot into Windows xp but my thinking is why? Unless you have some thousand dollar software that can only run in Windows , you would just be stuck with an expensive slow moving laptop. Good luck.
  15. I too am looking for a flat panel for the bedroom. I currently have a sony 37" bravia projection tv and would love to get my hands on 42 " for 499, then move the 37" to the bedroom. As I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong) that you don't need 1080i for anything under 37" and can get by on 720 but anything larger your picture will suffer with 720. So ysay ou wouldn't want a say 50" with 720.
