  1. As Ross mentions, that particular price point does not offer much in the way of options. A great entry level card is the WinFast TV2000 XP. Quite a long thread concerning this card on a to-be-unnamed hardware forum site.

You also may be able to shop around for a bit better price.

The PVR-150 Ross mentions is an excellent card as well, and Xp Media Center Edition compatible.

  2. Another good source for inexpensive video cards is the refurbished section of Newegg. Very hit or miss as far as price and availability are concerned, but you can often find excellent deals. Wouldn't suggest such for a complete novice, however - you may be required to locate drivers yourself, and/or (occassionally) optional accessories.

My own experience with refurbished products from Newegg has been quite good. Of course, as always, YMMV.

  3. The best way for our members to post deals is to post them here on the forum. Assuming they are "hot enough", we can quickly find an appropriate image and post them on the main site. We've done this several times and give credit to the person who posted it. That's one of the main reasons we have this forum.

Would have to agree this is an excellent way of adminstrating such an idea. Better to leave the control in the hands of the few at the top.

    Any further progress/updates/previews?

  4. Just an update... work continues on the new site. Here is a sneak preview:

    http://www.gottadeal.com/images/sneak.gif

I see it's already optimized for PocketPC/Palm users.

A question for everyone: We currently have the last 50 deals on the front page of the site. What are your thoughts about that number? Should it be raised, lowered, stay the same? Should we go by time instead of number and have all the deals posted in the last X number of days/hours? Having less deals means the page will load faster, but (obviously) there will be less deals to browse on the page.

Is this perhaps something that could be customized on a per-user basis?
  5. I prefer to "roll my own."

    300' + cable ends + crimper tool

    $17.90

Don't forget to use the GOTTADEAL coupon to save even more.

Agreed, with the exception listed below.

For beginners, may be slightly easier to work with plenum or similar wire, although it certainly is more costly. Of course, with three hundred feet, one can afford a few mistakes (connectors are not "reusable" for the most part, however). Finish off with some inexpensive strain-relief boots.

Very nice for long runs, or an occasional cable. If requiring more than 25 or so, save yourself the time and purchase inexpensive pre-made.

  6. As the site gets closer to being done we are thinking about asking a few of you to beta test it and see if you can break it or offer even more suggestions. We'll let you know more about this when the time comes.

If there exists a way something can be broken, I nearly always find that method sadly. One of the few gifts I have in this life.
  7. Some excellent ideas here. I like the idea of the customized view, and the detailed rebate information (it appears to my detail oriented nature).

new layout graphics (logo & color scheme will be staying the same)

As long as the design somewhat resembles the straightforward, clean, and minimal design present now, have no problem with this one either (I doubt it could be anything else, but wanted to mention I like the style of design being employed now).

Am certain I speak for many in saying we are very appreciative of both of you, Ross and Brad.

  8. Hey once you learn about all the new models, technologies, please pass on your knowledge to us

While I do not work for Seagate, am aware of at least one new product soon to be released. Seagate has a 2.5" 7200 RPM line due out this fall - the Momentus 7200.1 (Seagate's new naming convention uses a .x to signify the drive generation), available in 40GB, 60GB, and 100GB sizes.

News regarding the 7200.1 drives can be found here. Specifications found here (.PDF).

  9. Thank you for your response, and for the welcome.

Budget would be under $1,500 to $2,000. Believe Dell Home offers no tax in NY, as well as free standard shipping. Perhaps you had the 2001FP in mind? That particular model is certainly at the top of my list at the moment, as it is well reviewed, and obviously touts a high cost-benefit ratio (under $900, even less with readily available discounts).

Am actually hoping to find a smaller display (strange, I know) that closer matches the dimensions of the 16" UXGA notebook display currently made use of, as am attempting to employ a dual LCD environment in a remote office.

  10. Am in search of a UXGA/WUXGA (1600x1200/1920x1200, respectively) flat panel display. DVI input should be standard, and would be desired. Additional USB connectivity, speakers, etc are extraneous and unnecessary, but will consider models with such extra features. From prior research, appears this level of resolution only occurs on 20" models or larger, but certainly would consider other sizes (17", 19", etc). In fact, smaller sizes preferred. Also preferable to be on an adjustable stand, or mountable.

Thank you in advance for any assistance that might be provided.

  11. The Amazon/Toys 'R Us "Buy One, Get One Free" game coupon debacle:
