Sounds like the beaded bag is a better offer this year. And it's extended to online sales. Not bad!
  3. Projected temperatures in Valdosta, GA (where I'll be): Thanksgiving Day low: 38. Black Friday: 61/31.
  4. A BF sale for Dillard's? I haven't seen any posts for it (or ads).
  5. Watch assorted Christmas movies and then drive around the neighborhood to see the decorations. After that, crash during the "A Christmas Story" marathon. ("You'll shoot your eye out, kid! ) We usually don't open any gifts on Christmas Eve. I may get carried away and may want to open them all.
  6. *raising my glass* Cheers to you and everyone on this site!
  7. I think having a Christmas like this just makes you appreciate Christmas more. I know I do.
  8. Let's see here.... My mom, my dad and I decided to divide up the shopping. I went to Target. I got there at 4:00 AM and was fourth in line. By 5:15 AM, the line was to the end of the parking lot. My mom went to Goody's. I think they opened at 5:00. When she got in line at 4:15, she said she was near the front. By the time the store opened, the line was all the way back to the Steak N' Shake restaurant. After she left Goody's, she got in line at Sears since they opened at 6:00. They had multiple lines at all the doors. It was pandemonium when the store opened. They were giving away some $10 off coupons and she was at the wrong door and didn't receive one. My dad was the unfortunate soul who went to Wal-Mart. He was allowed inside, but the "pallet rule" (no purchases from the pallets in the center of the store until 6:00 AM) was in effect. By the time 6:00 hit, there was a mad rush to the pallets. I had other relatives that went to Toys R Us and they said the line was terrible. The main thing to expect is the long line. The later you get there, the longer the line. And of course, the stores will be jam-packed. It's amazing how crowded Belk was at 7:00. Hope this helps...and good luck next week. I'll be at Target again.
  9. The Belk I shopped at last year (in Valdosta, GA) had some fair sales. It was mainly on clothes, stuff like 40% off + an extra 30% off "red-dot" merchandise. I got a cute jacket last year. I'm not expecting anything big at Belk this year on BF, but I'll check them out after I leave Target. I usually find better deals at Belk (in Valdosta, GA and Macon, GA) during mid-December.
  10. At 11:00 AM EST, hopefully I will be coming out of my post Black-Friday Shopping nap. Then I'll be filling my belly.
  11. My brothers are the easiest. My older brother wants clothes, and my little brother wants video games. My mother, whom I love dearly, is the hardest. What do you get someone who has everything?
  12. We can trade for one day, December 25. I asked my mom if she could go back to Michigan, and she said "absolutely not!" (because of the snow) :) I saw footage of snow in Kalamazoo, MI this morning, and at first it looked beautiful. Then I thought about having to drive in it. But yes, I think it is time for you to move down south. You'll appreciate snow/ice free streets. I think I'll stop griping about the lack of snow here. :)
  13. My worst Christmas was Christmas of 1990. We had just moved to Germany from Michigan, and my dad was shipped out to Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Storm on December 21. It was my mom, me (age 11) and my 2-year-old brother in a German neighborhood. We didn't know anyone in the area to associate with, and we were an ocean away from family. I couldn't really enjoy the gifts because all I wanted was for my dad to be home for Christmas (he came home June 1991). I often think back to that Christmas when I hear about troops being sent to Iraq. Here in my area, they are always shipping out around November/December, which makes for a sad holiday season for many military families.
  14. Hands down, "A Christmas Story" is the best!! Come on TNT/TBS, bring on the marathon! Another Christmas movie, which is totally different fromt the other "traditional" Christmas movies that are shown on TV and which is one of my favorites is "Friday After Next" (note: Rated "R"; Not recommended for everyone!). It's good to watch on Christmas Eve with some "seasoned" egg nog.
  15. I used to live in Michigan and Germany, so I was used to a White Christmas. Since I've been living in Georgia for 11 years, I sure do miss them! Every couple of years we may have an ice storm that will shut down the entire state for a week (the January 2005 snow/ice storm wreaked havoc in Atlanta and the rest of the state), but it's rarely during December. Then again, since parts of Georgia really don't know how to deal with snow and ice, maybe we're better off without it.
  16. I'm planning to buy the one from Target. It's made by Kawasaki and has a 9" screen. $139.
  17. When I was younger, I was up around 6:30. Now, I'm usually up around 7:30 - 8:00. This comes after watching my "A Christmas Story" marathon. My little brother (who was nothing like me when he was little) will sleep until noon. I still get up early for the excitement of the big day, even though I'm older. And it's up to me to wake everyone else up. Now, I like to watch my family unwrap the gifts I buy for them.
  18. After opening gifts, we eat Christmas Dinner and watch NBA Basketball on TV. I received my Christmas gift from ESPN: Detroit vs. San Antonio (Go Pistons!).
  19. 1) Coca-Cola and the polar bears. 2) Budweiser and the clydesdales. 3) When I was younger, the Fruity Pebbles commercial (where Fred finally shares with Barney) was good. 4) The Hershey's kiss commercial. It's too many good ones to name. Basically, any commercial that deals with a Christmas theme is good. And by living in Georgia, I see quite a few of the Publix commercials. I like those for the originality.
  20. I try to watch them all. "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "Rudolph" are my favorites. I've tried to watch the Christmas movies they show on Lifetime, ABC Family, etc., and for some reason, those just don't do it for me. I LOVE when TBS/TNT shows the "A Christmas Story" marathon! It drives my mom nuts, but I usually catch it about four times. I also used to like it when CBS Daytime would show classic Christmas episodes of "The Young and The Restless" and "As The World Turns".
  21. In 2003 I got to Target at 2:35 AM and was first in line. Last year I got to Target at 4:00 AM and was fourth in line. I think going between 3:00 - 4:00 AM works best for me.
  22. I'm just going for the Portable DVD Player. Their sale seems a little scaled down compared to last year's.
