  1. If you think about it, contractors start really early, so the HD has to be open, mostly for their professional customers. It's funny, a bunch of my uncles are electricians, contractors, etc... and the DH is the receiving manager at HD so he sees some of my family more than I do now.
  2. If it were me, I'd call my state's attorney general. Don't know where you live but I'm in CT and that guy is ALWAYS on our local NBC station complaining about some sort of "injustice". That or the BBB might be an option. Or you could try a letter to corporate first, name the manager by name if you can, and explain to them that you are hoping to get resolution with them and if not you will be forced to take it to the ______ (Better Business Bureau, State Attorney General, Chamber of Commerce, local news channel, etc....). Perhaps that will ensure a quicker response. Also don't forget that it often goes farther to mail a letter than to email, and if it were me I'd send it with delivery confirmation and signature required- that'd get some extra attention. Good luck.
  3. I'll be curious to hear what other specials people hear about as it gets closer. No 24 hour Walmart or anything near me, so we could be at the outlets at midnight and back to Walmart for their opening around 4, then maybe the Disney store if they do anything worth going for. Hmmmm........ shop all night, then sleep all day. Sounds like a plan
  4. That's too bad. I'd be curious to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience or if you just unfortunately got a lemon. We were thinking of this last year- my five year old wants a video game and we don't have any yet and thought this might be a good way to start. We too were hoping for a good BF sale.
  5. You forgot those dollar coins
  6. The CD's might be hard since you might not know what she is into or what she already has. How about an MP3 player or small Ipod along with a gift certificate for some music downloads (of her choice), provided she has a computer and internet access.
  7. What about clothes from a favorite store? I know my five year old is really into clothes and accessories. Is she a girly girl? What is she into? If she has a mall near her there is a thing in our mall called Club Libby Lu. I know you said no gift cards, but you could get her one to there and she could go have a "makeover". It is geared to kids, and she would come home with glittery stuff and a bag and maybe some other things. Does she like to read any certain books? Is she into music? Mine are a lot younger so I'm at a bit of a loss but I wish I could help. Movie tickets to the cinema? A movie gift basket with a gift card to a local rental place plus popcorn and goodies? I guess some more info and a price range would be helpful to offer more suggestions. Good luck
  8. I don't know how much he loves to shop but he will do it if I ask. I have a friend who mentioned going together but I'm worried she'll slow me down, whereas if I bring the DH I have another player on my team. Either someone to walk with me and keep me sane or someone to give half the list to. Mine's 6'4" too, but more like 260 and built like a linebacker. This may come in handy to block the people who like to hit others with carts- I'm 5'4 on a good day, ooh, and he would be able to get stuff down from overstock at Target for me instead of having to wait for employees to do it. Hmmmm...... plus, and I know this may sound terrible, but I am an anal retentive freak on BF- I make my list by which store to go to first, then each store has a list of what items I want, usually in the order I want them. I also carry the ads- I have a folder for it all. I'm afraid that my friend might be scared of Commando Becky. What if she's a leisurely shopper  It's seeming more and more like bringing the DH is a good idea- I should start preparing him now. Think WalMart will look at us funny if I bring him to practice sprints in the aisles?
  9. You've piqued my interest- it never occured to me to look for something for ME on Black Friday! Now I'm going to be looking. Enabler
  10. do you guys divide and conquer? I've always gone alone and was debating having the kids stay at grandma's so I could drag the DH for moral support. Divide and conquer is an interesting thought too though. Hmmm... :)
  11. what is an Amex wishlist certificate and how does one acquire one? CHEAP is the name of the game more than ever this year!
  12. for the 14 year old, how about a book of movie passes- we can buy discounted ones at AAA and they come in books of 4 for $24 for mil, last year we made a nice card explaining that my husband was going to take her out on a mother/son "date night", ie dinner and a movie. she was so excited since they never really spend time together just the two of them without me and the kids there. also it was our first christmas without fil so it served a double purpose with getting her out of the house but anyhoo.... good luck and i know what you mean, i hate gift cards too

  15. i have a question- for the things that are available online would i be able to just wait up til midnight, buy them and then hit the stores when they open? also, for stores that go to 24 hours during the holidays, like our walmart sometimes does, will we be able to get the sales right at midnight? i need help, lol, i am pretty new to black friday shopping. last year was the first year i tried it but this year i want to go and maximize my shopping and get all my christmas shopping done. i am hoing to make it to target, walmart, sears, the disney store and that may be it . any help is appreciated. thanks!
