  1. Obviously, I'd like to get a good price on whatever I decide to buy (I am allergic to paying retail :-), but price is not a major factor; as long as I am getting a good value for whatever I get, I want to buy what will be the best in terms of function and reliability (and most features for the lightest weight). And- it is for New York (yeah, I know, the sales tax is lousy...). Thanks again!
  2. I'm not sure if this is the right forum, and I apologize if it's not. Anyway, I'd like some expert advice. I want to buy a laptop for my daughter for law school; it will be carried daily to classes (along with prob. a lot of heavy books). Weight is a major concern, since she has had some significant back problems. She will need a built in cd drive and good battery life, along with the usual wireless options, etc. She doesn't require a desktop replacement, since this will be a second computer, so graphics/speed is less of an issue. It will be used primarily for Internet and word-processing, but will be used for extended periods, so a good screen and comfortable keyboard are musts. Any opinions as to what trade-off for weight versus screen size and keyboard size are worth making? While I am a fan of Dell desktops for bang-for-the-buck, I have heard that their laptops are questionable when it comes to reliability. I know the IBM T42 series is a nice product, but I am not sure if they are a little too heavy. Others have suggested the Fujitsu S6120 and P70108, the Sony Vaio S series and the Panasonic Toughbook Y2. Since I am a neophyte, I was hoping that some of the forum members with a bit more expertise would take the time to offer some suggestions. THANKS (and, of course, I wouldn't mind any good deals either ).
  3. Went to order the one on the front page from Amazon- but it is now up to 212.95- last night it was 169- figured I'd order it this morning...grrrrrrrrrrrrr............
  4. I guess 60-80 gigs would be fine, size isn't critical, but I'd like it to be quiet. I will use it on USB 2, but I'd like to be able to use it on USB 1 also- getting a new computer (yeah- Dell deals...) and want to be able to download the data from my old computer (hence USB 1) and then transfer it over. Thanks for any info
  5. I want a good external hard drive - any good deals on a good unit?
  6. I know this sounds like a lazy question, but it isn't. Because of my desk set-up, I have a width constraint. The specs under the computers for this panel gives dimensions at 20.0H, 20.16 wide, which won't work, but the specs under accessories gives it as 17.6" wide, and 18-25 high, depending upon how it is adjusted, which will work. I'd really appreciate it if someone who owns the monitor would take the time and measure it. Thanks!!!
