  1. although a bit riskier, with everyone buying all these cameras recently with all of Dell's great deals, places like Ebay and Craigslist have lots of used, older models for sale, many times good cameras for great prices. Especially if you live in a major city where there is a craigslist, there really isn't any risk, because you can check out your purchase before buying it. For example, you might be able to pick up one of the older 2 mp Canon digital elphs, with optical zooms, which take extremely good pictures.
  2. Rubbing salt in the wound? I was hoping for a better deal, but was only partially burnt- EPP had the same discount, but also offered 12%. Since I was stuck with tax either way, it was a no brainer. Maybe tomorrow's deals will be better- any info. on the rebates available for the dimensions?
  3. Is there any way of getting the additional up to 12% savings for buying extended warranties at the Educational site applied to the Home side?
  4. Forwarded the email for the GAP coupon (I forgot to sign in before posting last time- if I was signed in, could I have pasted the image in the message box?)
  5. I'm going to confuse you a little more perhaps, but you should consider the Fujitsu S7020 which is due to be released at the end of June, if you can wait. I have been researching these A LOT, with weight a primary consideration here as well. The T42 (or the new T43) is, in reality, 5.5 pounds if you use the extended life battery (8 cell) and have the optical drive in. You have to be careful with weights, because the vendors quote weights with minimum configurations, and with a plastic cover in place rather than the optical drives~so you really have to determine what the real weight is. With the battery and the optical drive in, the Fujitsu will be 4.15 pounds. It will have the touchpad, pointing stick and a scroll feature for the touchpad between the left and right mouse click buttons. Pricewise I think it will come out a little better than the IBM's can be purchased for even with a great deal, and has a 14.1" screen like the IBM, versus the !3.3" of the 6231. The S series has gotten really good reviews in a lot of places; personally, for features/screen size/weight, I think you should consider it if you can wait another month. The screens on the Fujitsus are really well rated too. Don't get me wrong, I bought a T42 last year for my other daughter, because IBM is -well- IBM, but she is not taking it with her daily, and my younger daughter will be, and she has a significant history of back problems, which is why I researched everything to the ounce and, of course, if you are going to be using it a lot, the larger screens are certainly nicer to have. Hope this helps.
  6. Hey- I knew it was a good deal...can I help it if my computer decided to act up afterwards?
  7. Are these ever combinable with the % off deals... if the $300 didn't eliminate the 20%, that would be a decent deal. I want the $750 off 1499 back :-(
  8. What are the advantages of the Media Center versus XP Pro? As for the 4700 versus the 8400- I just thought the 8400 was a better unit- maybe wrong (I am far from any kind of expert here...)
  9. Ditto...Rossman- to answer your question- I want the 8400, well-configured, and as cheap as possible (of course )...maybe I am wrong, but I think Dell's better lines are more troublefree- better quality control and all that (or I just believe the hype....). The XPS unit is a little too big for my desk cubby. Luckily, we don't pay tax in NY for Dell Home (yet...anyway) so the Home section is better unless SB has a deal worth offsetting the sales tax- of course, the one you mentioned, with perhaps a larger hd and a little tweaking would have been nice... oh well
  10. yeah...thanks...I figured it didn't hurt to ask. There was such a nice one last week :-(...but my computer was behaving itself last week. Oh well- I figured with the end of the quarter fast approaching, and with all the inspiron coupons, a good dimension one should be forthcoming...
  11. Wondering if you've gotten a heads up on any good Dimension deals for the end of the week?
  12. We just leased a new Odyssey- and it is by far the best minivan! We've had minivans for a dozen years, and this one is superb! It rides and handles like a car, is quieter, and has a slightly better turning radius that the older model (which was care free for the entire length of the lease). And- I'm getting around 21 mpg- not bad for a minivan! You really should take a look at it. We considered the Sienna, but the seats are a bit too shallow for taller people- the cushioning is MUCH better in the Odyssey. All the safety ratings/car reviews rave about the Odyssey and the Sienna, but we found the handling and ride better in the Odyssey. Just adding my 2 cents for what it's worth...good luck!
  13. This time of year, the local pool companies start to run great sales, so check your weekend paper. Great way to pick up chemicals too- those pre-season sales generally have the best prices till the end of August, and any pool wner knows that chemicals add up in $. Also- I assume you realize that you do not have to replace the pump with the same model; just make sure the hp is the same (as long as you are happy with your current filtration system).
  14. you might consider a forum for sharing one time use codes within the community. I benefited from that at one of the other sites...but if you can, you should restrict access to such a forum to registered members, who would hopefully be appreciative and likewise share
  15. Found the deal: 372.69 :-) Now there is 10% off at Dell with a free 256 card, less the $35 off $300 coupon available elsewhere, less 10% for opening a DPA account(coupon code: FTP4G89V?41R1H), free shipping 499.99 -49.90 Instant discount -41.41 with DPA coupon -35.00 E&A coupon =$372.69 with free 3-5 day ground shipping. Thanks goes to the original poster on FW for finding a great. Just ordered the two I needed as gifts. BTW- add the coupons, but the 10% off won't show until you check out with a Dell preferred acct. (very easy to open - takes two secs.) Just ordered the two I needed as gifts. Hope the info. helps someone else
  16. Thanks- I was hoping for another of those deals which coincided with the 10% of 15% off digital cameras. I managed to nab one (along with a few fillers I needed anyway) with one of the 10% off plus I believe $65 off a few weeks ago, and I need to buy another, so I was hoping for a similar deal (actually, with the stacking BigBucks coupons the deals now could be even sweeter). Currently, Dell is charging top dollar for the camera, so the $ off coupons aren't a great deal...
  17. I am hoping for one of those Dell deals with the 15% off and then a $ off promotion- I know there is currently a great $off promotion, but alas no camera discounts. Any idea of any forthcoming? Thanks
  18. Yeah- that I know. What made the Sony tempting was that their 3 year accidental damage warranty was actually well-priced. Fujitsu only has accidental screen protection and that is an absurd $382 over and above the $300 for onsite 3 year service. Dell support may be a pain at times, but pricewise it is great coverage (although there is no completecare for NY :-(). After what you said about the Sony, I'll nix that. Any suggestions for decent resellers of the Fujitsus, and any feedback on their support (since the odds are, at some point, most laptops will need it)?
  19. Why? That isn't meant as a challenge- I am trying to pick your brain, because you obviously know a heck of a lot more about this than I do- and THANKS!
  20. All your feedback has been very helpful. I have to decide between the Dell D610 you suggested above, which has price definitely in its favor but is about 5.65 pounds with battery and cd drive, the 700M, which is lighter but has a 12.1" screen, and still is a good buy, versus probably paying too much for the 13.3" Sony Vaio S360/380 (which is only 4.2 pounds) or the 14.1" Fujitsu S7020 which will be released next month, which will be 4.1 pounds. If I opt forthe Fujitsu or Sony, are there any resellers that have good prices on Fujitsu and/or Sony? I like the price of the Dells, but the weight of the others....
  21. Brad- do you find any problem with glare on the 700 screen- I heard that can be a problem with the crystal screens. I am most interested in a classroom situation (I assume overhead flourescents)?
  22. Brad- thanks- you are right, the native resolution is prob. actually a good setting; I was concerned that it might have been even higher, and then the print gets too small. It looks like anything smaller than the 700m doesn't have the built in optical drive, unless I am missing something....decisions, decisions....
  23. Thanks for all the feedback- I guess the varied opinions out there is what keeps everyone in business :-) Brad- on the 700m- if the print size is uncomfortable on the native resolution due to its high resolution, is it still clear if a different display setting is chosen? Is there a similar Latitude model (I know the coupons from Home tend to be better, and there is no tax, but I know several of the new Latitudes have hard drive shock protection and complete care warranty is available through sb and not Home in NY)? Anyone else have any thoughts comparing the Dell 700M to the Fujitsu S6120 or 6231? Thanks again guys!
  24. Hmm.. any opinions as to the comfort of the keyboard, screen size, and RELIABILITY? I have read elsewhere that several people did not like the keyboard feel, and everyone seems to be complaining about Dell laptops (although I love their coupon deals)
