  1. Several years ago my oldest daughter had a pink Nintendo DSi at the top of her Christmas list. I didn't want to let her down, but I also knew we couldn't afford one out right. Other women on a parenting forum I was a part of were talking about planning to pick up DSis on Black Friday. My husband had to work, so I made plans with my mother in law.  We headed out the next morning and I was able to snag a pink DSi with minimal hassle.  I'm not sure who was more excited that year.. Me for grabbing that stinking DS or my daughter when she opened it on Christmas. lol

  2. Is a 1TB Xbox one really necessary? We currently have a 320gb Xbox 360, less than 100gb is used. Are the games that much bigger on the One?

It seems like many of the deals are for the 500gb version.

No, not necessary IMO, because ultimately you're going to need to add extra space regardless of whether you start with 500gb or 1tb.  A full retail title can expect to take up 50-60gb of harddrive space. If you plan to have a gold Xbox Live account (and you should!) you'll get an additional 4 free games a month that will be taking up space, as well.  Buy a 500gb console and then add an inexpensive 2-4tb external harddrive via USB3 and call it a day.

  3. Be careful with this - Microsoft has been VERY misleading with this feature/option. All the games have to be programmed to be backwards compatible. It's not a "flip a switch" and they all work. My ex-husband has actually been one of the volunteer coders working on the project.

Here's an article on the latest list of titles that should work. Please note there are not any LEGO titles on there. :(

    http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/xbox-one-backwards-compatibility-full-list-xbox-360-games-leaked-1527479

some of the games are backwards compatible now for the xbox one i think only 30 so far but they say more to come

104 titles to start with at launch on the 12th of November with more being added over time. Nothing has been misleading regarding backward compatibility. They've been very clear that there's limited titles to start with and more added monthly. All future games released for free for Xbox 360s via the Games with Gold program will be backward comptabile.. Opening up 4 games for free a month to Xbox One owner with XBL subscriptions.

And there -are- LEGO games on the list..

  4. Nope - you are not coming across as a jerk at all. Like I said - I was the last holdout of all his friends in getting COD. (He's 12, 7th grade).

I actually find there is a real gap in pre-teen appropriate games. There's younger child, and then lots of FPS games, but not much in-between. Half the time the Xbox winds up in my bedroom so I get to listen in on the boys when they are playing. They have very strict rules that they all follow set down by one of the other moms - and they never complain about following them! They are not allowed to call each other by their real names (so all you hear is "Vamp!" and "EMan!" and "CoolNinja" half the time), and if someone is in their party they have not actually met, they are not allowed to be on chat at all. I think it's great, because it's also fostered a lot of sleepovers/non-gaming get togethers with the boys so they can meet each other. (I mentioned before, our districting is weird here, they are constantly switching schools from elementary to middle to high (and getting ready to close 5 schools in the county) but the kids all get to know each other through sports and "friends of friends".)

He is REALLY looking forward to Star Wars Battlefront. It's on his must-have list. He played the beta a few weeks ago a loved it. He kind of wants Lego Dimensions - but still feels burned over the whole Skylanders thing. Plus knows I will probably play it more than him, but I just want the Doctor Who add-on. :D

Indie games seem to do a pretty good job at filling that gap, I think, but are often overlooked as they're not hyped AAA releases sold in stores. Some of our favorites on Xbox One have been Child of Light, So Many Me, Plague Inc Evolved, Happy Wars, and The Deer God.  All except Plague Inc have been (or are still) free, to boot.

ETA that sports and racing games are always an option, too. And if you have a sports game fan than a year's worth of EA Access for $30 is way more than worth the price.

  5. Yes. Its a policy they implemented last year.  Here is their exact policy from their coorperate site. (edited to add the link: http://corporate.walmart.com/policies )

  6. Hm. My oldest daughter has metioned she'd like clothes for Christmas, and the b1g2f sweater dresses look like a good deal.   We actually have a Peebles nearby, but I've never shopped there because I figured they were out of my price range. lol

  7. Son informed me that he wants an Xbox 1 - said the 500gb isn't enough he would need the 1TB - can you hook up an external hard-drive to give you more room for storing games?

I'd even say 1TB isn't enough, honestly. A gold XBox Live account will net 4 free games a month.. But yes, you can use an external HD with USB 3 to add more space. I've had my XB1 since February and I've got around 40 or so titles? But I've only bought and paid for two of them.

  8. In my experience I prefer physical media. I guess I'm old school. When the consoles do away with them I think I will be a console person no more. I like media I can sell, trade, lend to family/friends. I also like the fact that the HUGE game (code and art) isn't sitting there hogging up my drive space when I'm not playing it. I tend to play games in cycles I won't touch one for a long time then I will go back months later and start playing it. As for the game being there no it's usually a DL you have to make after you spend hours waiting for the console to update to the latest firmware/os versions :)

I don't know about Wii Us or PS4s, but with Xbox Ones even with the actual disc you still have to install the game to your harddrive.

  9. We seriously had the best time last year.  We had dinner, and then left the girls with my ILs so we could go to Walmart and try to snag the older girls a 32inch TV for their room. I was absolutely terrified we weren't going to get one since we left late, but my husband was actually 3rd in line.  I even managed to finish shopping and get us checked out before the TV could be picked up. We loaded up, he drove me home so I could get the girls (a 45 minute drive!) then turned and went back after the TV.. Seriously the smoothest sale -ever-.

  10. I need help from all the GAMERS on here. I'm looking at several xbox 360 video games to purchase this year but I need to know which ones are Multi Player. If you know, could you tell me of this list, which are Multi Player please?

    1. Injustice-Gods Among Us
    2. Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition
    3. Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe Platinum Hits
    4. Street Fighter IV Platinum Hits
    5. Destiny (2014 release)
    6. Transformers Devastation
    7. Wipe Out: in the zone
    8. Sonic Unleashed

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I looked them up on Xbox's marketplace and here is what is listed for each game:

    1. Injustice has offline multiplayer up to 4, and online multiplayer capabilities up to 8 players.

    2. Destiny TTK has online multiplayer 2-16, or online coop up to 6. No offline.

    3. MK vs DCU has online and offline multiplayer (up to 2)

    4. Street Fighter IV has online 2 player.

    5. Destiny base game has the same multiplayer options as The Taken King.

    5. No multiplayer is listed for Transformers Devestation.

    7. Wipeout features up to 4 players offline. No online play. Requires a Kinect.

    8. Sonic Unleashed does not list multiplayer capabilities.

  11. Me too!! My Rheumatologist gave me a handicapped parking pass one year and it was heavenly, except that I had to get out of my car and ask people to get out of the handicapped parking while waiting for whoever to come out of the store. I also usually do the holiday cooking too, mainly because no one likes how my other sisters cook. It just isn't worth it to me feeling wiped out for days afterward, so I try to do most of my shopping online. I also guzzle green tea for energy and it seems to help with the stiffness a bit, too.

My handicap pass was a life saver last year!  Best thing I've ever asked my doctor for. lol The year before that we had to park at the bottom of the hill and I was in tears just from trying to cross the parking lot, let alone getting back down the hill to the car itself.

  12. I have some pretty severe social anxiety that likes to flare up on my way to do my BF shopping. I don't do well in groups of strangers as it is and because of rheumatoid arthritis I struggle with mobility. The last couple of black fridays have been a little unnerving as the disease has worsened. I worry about trying to maneuver through the crowd. I walk slower and with a pretty pronounced limp these days. I can't lift anything heavy and I'm prone to dropping things.  These issues get exacerbated because I'm already fatigued from holiday cooking, and then you throw me in a group with people reaching over you, hitting you with carts, etc..I took a pretty good beating two years ago just from minor interactions. lol Last year was much better, though.

  13. If its a tight year, absolutely nothing. It'll all be for the girls and only the girls.
If its a better year, then I may splurge and get myself a video game that I've been wanting if its on sale.

I'm actually crossing my fingers that its a better year than others this year, and that we'll be able to upgrade the main TV in the living room. My oldest daughter actually expressed wanting to upgrade as a 'family' gift, but the littler girls weren't really convinced on the value of the trade. lol

  14. Hm. I've not had any problems with price matching. And I do it a lot. I'm in a rural area, so I'm limited to only price matching 'local competitors' with specific ads. They won't price match something that's not within 10-15 miles of them, for example.  There's not a Best Buy around, so I can't stroll in with a Best Buy ad. However, once they started price matching online sales last year that opened things up for me to price match stores I normally couldn't have.  I can say "Best Buy has this on their website for (x)" and have it matched, now.
