  1. I agree with open office. That's what we use here.

Instead of Micro$oft Office, maybe you could save a few bucks and use OpenOffice (free) or LibreOffice (also free).

I've used all three and while I'm more familiar with Microsoft's Office suite, I was able to easily do everything I needed in the Open and Libre Office suites (word processing and spreadsheets) in very short order.

And the free suites were able to open Microsoft Office documents, make edits and save back to the same format without issue.

    I recommend LibreOffice.

The development is more active than OpenOffice that it was split from.

  2. You can get a decent 1080p projector for probably a bit less than that Vizio 70". But there are other factors to consider: A decent surface to project on is one. Another is that, if you don't already have a home theatre sound solution of some kind, you're gonna have to put one together, as the projector is unlikely to have anything useful to contribute in that area. Also, DO YOUR HOMEWORK regarding the longevity and price of a projector's light source, as that can represent a substantial back-end cost that many folks do not take into account before they buy.

Thanks... I already have a decent sound solution in the basement...  I'll have to do some research.

  3. I am new to the tablet world so please bare with me. My dd (13) is wanting something to read books on. She has a smart phone but isn't allowed to use it in class. She also can play games and take pics w/her phone so that isn't important. So basically looking for what I need to be looking at for her to read books. Really don't want to spend very much so not sure what I should be looking for. Thanks for any info.

Sounds like a good candidate for something in the Kindle line.

If it is strictly for reading books, the paperwhite is very nice.

  4. Use the comparison charts in the tools section of Gottadeal if you are looking for something specific.  This makes it easy to compare where you may want to get different items.

    I agree.

There are a lot of tools here to use.

My best and short advice is to research.  Make a plan, and execute it.

The planning is key if you plan on hitting the B&M stores.
