  1. I have a dell and acer laptop and have been very happy with both. I too would like to find a good but cheap laptop for my 12 year old. his old desktop is breaking down and too big
  2. I have to disagree, This year I am more excited about Christmas than I have ever been. Financially, this has been a tough year. My dp was laid off and our income has dropped more than half. Saying that I have had to be careful with what I buy and when. It is easy to feel sorry for us when we see some families going abroad for the holidays, buying new cars every year, etc. But this economy has been good in making me realize that we are so lucky, we have an income, we haven't lost our home, we can afford to feed our kids nutricious food. In the past, It was more buying in quanity. This year I am putting alot more thought into the gifts I am giving. My teenagers know that money is tight, but I have managed to hit the sales, use coupons and free shipping codes. I bought my 12 year old a nook, my 15 year old a 4th generation touch. Neither have asked for anything because they know money is tight. I know they will be thrilled. I got a few other small gifts for them but it is much less than before. My dp is getting a kodak printer, scanner, fax copier. Luckily I have squirreled away money all year. I get so much more joy giving, I really hate getting. So yes, it isn't like Christmas past, but this year I will truly enjoy Christmas, because although the quanity is less, the love behind Christmas is more. otonoh
  3. I just downloaded it, my kids are too old for toys, the selection of electronics was mediocre. I think I can safely skip the pre-thanksgiving sale.

    24 hour WalMarts?

I would think once people are there for the 12:00 sales, they will stay there to line up for the 5:00am deals. Depending on how many people are there for the 12:00 sales, I would think you would have to get in line for the store opening and then get in line for 5 hours for the 5 oclock sales. not fun but at least indoors
  5. I noticed a disclamer on walmarts ad, Remember in some states, Walmart can't sell items below their cost. I know last year there were many angry shoppers at my walmart during their preblack friday sales
  6. How about murder she wrote boxed sets, some place, I don't remember where has boxed tv sets. This reminds me of a funny story, My mom, who was cool yet conservative, and went video cassette shopping, she bought children of the corn, thinking it was a Waltons, type of movie. LOL
  7. thanks, I see 2 things I want, nothing I need.
  8. I think I can safely stay away from walmart on bf. The electronics are cheap but they are pretty cheap now, besides in this economy, I am going for mostly needs and a few wants
  9. best buy and menards, Best buy because the lines are insane, and not into 24 our camping in the snow. Menards because there is nothing of quality that I need
  10. I am disappointed this year, There is one item I want but I am debating if it is worth saving 40 bucks to sit out in the snow for 8+ hours. I am finding better deals now on the things I actually planned to get for gifts. Between Kohls 30% off and Kohls cash, buy.com and Amazon.com I got the items I wanted for less than some of the black friday deals.
  11. I am about 85% done, nothing on my list has shown up in the bf ads or the prechristmas sales yet. I did get the ipod cards for 35.00. most of the things now are smaller items, I am finding that if you hit a god sale, use coupons and get free shipping, there is no need to line up for limited items. To me the fun is in the hunt previous to BF not necessarily BF itself.
  12. I just saw that, 10 per store. I think I will keep my refurb, I just ordered. It has been gone over by technicians, the ones at bb are straight of the assembly line.
  13. Probably cheaper, but my ds Loves going to Barnes and noble to browse for a few hours. His Grandpa and Auntie were going to get him video games but they are happier they can give gift cards for books. He is 12 and a klutz, so we wanted to go with the cheapest in case if he broke it the first day. I also called our local library and asked if their ebooks were compatible with nook and they said they were. We shall see.
  14. I always buy reconditioned, it is usually gone over with a fine tooth comb, the new ones are off the assembly line, I just ordered a nook for my ds. He is such a book worm, Money has been tight this year so the buy.com deal made the decision easier, plus I spoke to a few students that had the nook and they loved theirs
  15. well this is easy, if I were given 500.00 to spend, I would buy thingsthat my local humane society desperately needs. I would stop at ace and get the shop Vac for 1 @ 39.99 before rebate, then I would stop at kohls to get 15O The Big One Bath Towels (Assorted Colors) 2.99 total = 448.50 then on my way to drop off the goodies at the humane society, I would swing by walgreens and get 2 boxes of russel stover box chocolate 3.99 each or 7.98 and 1 Maxwell House Coffee (Assorted Varieties) $2.79 for the volunteers, total spent. 499.27. Then I would buy a stamp at walgreens 44 cents to send in the 10.00 rebate for the vaccum and give them the rebate form and the stamp so I would actually be donating 509.71 worth for 500.00 dollars. otonoh
  16. I am about 75% finished. I kept receipts to make sure I got the best deal. Usually the things I want to purchase aren't on the black Friday deals. Besides, when I am done, I can shop for myself.:)
  17. I Live in wisconsin, Light are going up tomorrow. It is an all day event, No snow yet this year so it should be much more pleasant
  18. I am not a big fan of walgreens, There portable dvd payer doesn't look like a bargain.
  19. Will Walmart have these sales every weekend? I thoought they were going to last year but after the 2nd weekend I didn't see any more ads
  20. My apologies if I insulted anyone.
  21. I went to my walmart at 10:00 am still plenty of sale tv's and itunes cards, I stocked up and got 4. :) Looks like my son's birthdays are covered too.
  22. I had the same dilemma but it is with a 15 year old boy. He thinks I will never buy him a touch and has been asking for it for the past few years, this year I plan on getting him one for Christmas. I am a teacher and catch kids all the time looking at inappropriate sites instead of paying attention. Phones are banned in class but not the touches ( yet ). I don’t blame the kids, they are curious and probably more worldly then we ever were at their ages. My son is old enough now, that when he goes to nasty sites, it won't scar him for life. Does anyone know if the face talk is really worth paying the extra or is it just hype? thanks
