  1. Unfortunately between now and the hour and half I was just in class the computer got sold out again. While that is bad news for now, the good news is that since it got posted again for the same price today, they might end up getting more available in the near future. That being said keep your eyes peeled cause in my opinion this was the best laptop by far both during black friday and all weekly ads previous to black friday. Good luck getting one
  2. I just wanted to let everyone know that the best Black Friday add laptop is back on sale at the same price at Best Buy. Its the DV4-1114NR. The one that I got. Go to the site and type in the model number I just gave you. It originally went for $749.99 and now its back at $500. The only thing is its on back order. So the warehouse might not get it for a week or two and then it will take another week or week and a half to get to you or the store. Although if your willing to wait the 3-4 weeks, Id say definitely snatch this.
  3. Hey thanks for all of your help. I did get the one at Staples and my son is in the process of setting it all up now. I did purchase the 2007 office and ended up getting it for $59.00. I didn't think that was a bad deal at all. It had some rebates with it, plus and extra $20.00 off with the purchase of a computer. We got there ten minutes before they opened and they sold three of them right away and one lady bought the $499 computer they had. That 10 minutes of waiting time sure was much better than the 4-5 hours I wasted at Wal Mart on Black Friday for a computer they didn't even have. I couldn't of found this without your help so thank you very much:) Hey dessenma, thanks for sharing in the news. Im very happy that things worked out and that you got an extra $20 off. I have a feeling that this computer will fit your sons needs perfectly and am glad I was able to assist you will finding it for him. That being said, I wish him the best of luck in college and that the laptop comes in handy as he seeks reaching his degree. Take it easy.
  4. He is correct. Get the Staples one if you want the bigger 250GB HD and free printer with rebate. Or go to Circuit City and get the other one for $499.99 and get 160GB HD with no printer. Other than that they are basically the same. The dell isnt worth it, its over priced for what your getting. This also brings me to my next point. For my friend that Im helping try to find his son a computer for college, the one I recommended the Staples computer to above, the Circuit City one is great if you dont mind sacrificing the 250GB HD and getting the 160GB one. Of course you wouldnt get the free printer either than. So yea, Id say for you, being that you said you needed a printer...and really wanted the 250GB....the staples one is still for you.
  5. Sorry if my typing is bad sometimes, I think something is wrong with my brain where I can think faster than I type so I jump to words in my sentences or dont finish spelling them before moving onto the next. If ever you dont understand me just let me know. However Id like to hope its not this way all of the time
  6. I just looked at all the adds available this weekend. Everything at Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Max, and Walmart is over priced for what they are giving you. After first I got a little excited over some a Best Buy one but then I quickly realized that for what they were giving you, the computer was over-priced by about $75. So as far as this week is concerned, there were only 3 good deals, two of which wouldnt work out for you since you dont have Office Depot near you. That basically leaves the staples one, and being that you told me that youll need a printer, its not a bad deal. I would look at it like this. Your getting the computer for $499.99 and paying $50.00 for the printer than you were going to buy anyways instead of you paying $549.99 for the computer and getting a printer for free. I know its the exact same thing, but I think the first way a looking at things is more optimisitic. Alright well Ill continue to look for any ads that might come out midweek even though I dont think theyll have another round of new ones until Saturday of next week, but well see. Alright well let me know how that staples one worked out for you in the mean time and if you decided to get it
  7. Ok so Ive got something for you that might be what your looking for at Staples starting tomorrow morning (Sunday 11/30.) Staples item # 761020 HP 15.4 inch screen AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual Core Mobile Technology RM-70 3GB RAM 250GB HD (Just what you wanted) Windows Vista Home Edition (Not 64 bit edition, thats good to know) Intergrated Webcam Lightscribing DVD/CD labeling system Plus a free printer with mail in rebates. $549.99 Ok so I love the fact that its an HP. They are my favorite brand laptops. The Turion 64 X2 processor is pretty gnarly. 3GB of ram is perfect. The 250GB HD is more than plenty space wise. Its good that it doesnt have the 64 bit edition of Vista. Then there is always the bonus perks of having a Webcam built within the computer and Lightscribing technology. Heres the think that I dont like, its $549.99 instead of $499.99. If it was $499.99, Id stay this is the one dont think twice. Since it is not however, then I have the following to say. If you were going to get a printer anyways, then this is a good deal cause it takes care of that end of things. However, if you were not looking to getting a print to go along with the laptop, its something you need to decide on for yourself and if that extra $50 is worth it. Basically heres the thing, if it had a $160 GB hard drive, it would be $499.99. If it had 2GB RAM it would be $499.99. If it had a older processor it would be $499.99. If it had a 14.1 inch screen it would be $499.99. However since that is not the case, its $549.99...its the 250GB HD that pushed it over the edge. That being said, in the end, if I am going to get you a computer that is $499.99 or under if you dont want this one, which would you be willing to sacrific. A 250GB HD for a 160GB one? A more modern processor for one that is up to date but still good? A 15 inch screen for a 14 inch one (although there hasnt been a lot of 14.1 inch screens being sold as of lately from what I noticed these past couple of weeks, the 15 inch ones are more standard), or 3GB for 2GB (although I dont imagine many computer packages having a 250GB HD to also then have a 2GB Ram set, so it might not be realistic to hope for a computer with 250GB of HD but has 2GB's of ram.) Alright well let me know what you think of this deal, and if its not the one for you, where do you want to make some sacrafices if we have to in order to keep it at $499.99 or under. We still might get lucky regardless, but Im asking you just in case.
  8. Yea dude. Snag it if your alright with 2GB of memory and it being a Compaq. I think its a decent price for what your getting and like I said Im sure there will be a lot of others that think this as well, so get there 45 minutes early to guarantee yourself one. Good luck, let me know if you get it!
  9. Oh ok. Sorry to have gotten your hopes up. Alright well sounds like you would like to lean more towards the 250GB HD rather than the 160GB. I have a feeling your wanting it as a safety precaution and I respect that, but 160GB is still pretty humungous. In either regard, just to be safe, Ill keep an eye out for a 250GB one for you instead of a 160GB one if that is what you really want. It will add a little bit more to the price, but as far as it draining your battery power, its just a small factor of many. The main one is having a big screen. As I was telling you before a 15 inch screen will get about 2 hrs of battery life with the average 6 cell Lithium Ion battery while a 14 inch screen will get about 3 hrs. When looking at the difference between a 160GB and 250GB hard drive, Id imagine that having a 250GB would only cost you an an extra 15 minutes of battery life to run. So not a big deal. Its more or less the screen as the key factor. Anyways though, the search goes on. Ill keep my eyes peeled for a 250GB one for you. Dont worry we'll find something!
  10. Hey Stationchief, why do you think they offered my DV4-1114nr in an upgraded verison, the DV4-1117nr? It had the Windows Vista 32 bit version just like mine, but it came with a 250 HD and 4 GB Ram. So your basically telling me that unfortunately all the people that bought the package deal one didnt get their full moneys worth because that extra GB of ram will be usless unless they get Windows Vista 64 bit
  11. No. Its an in stores only deal. So grab it while you can if you have the time to on Sunday morning cause I doubt they will last long with Christmas getting closer and closer and with people trying to get a second chance kind of deal if they missed out on Black Friday.
  12. So just so I know when Im looking for you in the next couple of weeks, would you like one with a 160GB HD or one with a 250GB HD? Im guessing the 160GB one would be fine, but then you said ample storage space would be nice...so by ample, would 160GB fit that category? And your correct your not going to find Microsoft Office on any of the laptops, unless its a trail version. Hate to break it to you. Alright well like I said Ill start looking into things for you in the next coming weeks. In fact here are two that I saw that I personally think are on an even grounds to the Toshiba you were originally looking at, but at a cheaper price. They are both at Office Depot. #1 (look up item # 978005) Compaq 15.4 inch screen 2GB Ram 160GB HD Athlon Ql-62 Dual-Core Processor Windown Vista Premium Edition (doesnt state 32 or 64 bit though) $399.99 I personally like all the specs. I love Athlon Dual-Core & Intel Core 2 Dou's processor, so the processor is pretty sweet. It could use another GB of ram to max it out, but that is something you can always get for cheap later on. Im not sure how I feel about Compaq. I hated them back in the day, but HP bought them out, so now they are supposedly suppose to be like HPs rather than the old kind of Compaqs that they used to be. All in all, I would have wanted this one a lot more than the Tosibha you were originally looking at for the price that its going at. #2 (look up item # 993090) Toshiba 15.4 inch screen 3GB Ram 160GB HD Pentium Dual Core T-3200 Processor Windows Vista Edition (doesnt state 32 or 64 bit though) $479.99 This one has the extra GB of Ram, which is a plus. The Pentium Dual Core T-3200 is an older processor, still good, but not as energy efficent and fast as the newer ones. Long story short, this processor is more suited for a desktop, but it is still good for a laptop. Finally its a Toshiba. I just cant get past the fact that Toshiba makes computers. Its still weird to me. On top of that, their key boards have been known to make a lot of noise when typing on them. Whether or not thats a big deal, its just something I thought you should known. If it were me Id pick the Compaq if your ready to pull the trigger on something. However, it would be nice if we could find you a HP with 3GB Ram, 160 HD, and a 15.4 or 14.1 screen with a Turion, Athlon, or Core 2 Dou processor for $449. That would be ideal. But like I said, the Compaq isnt too shabby. So keep it in mind and tell me what youd like to do. Ill continue to keep my eyes open. Once again both of these will be at Office Depot and the sale begins tomorrow (Sunday November 30th.) While you wont have to line up early in the morning, I would get their maybe a half hour-an hour before the store opens just ot be safe.
  13. Btw, stationcheif is there any other related posts like this one talking about what laptops people got. I like really about what everyone got and didnt get and why. Its fun to debate and read baout such things
  14. Wow I didnt know that, I thought it had room for 1 more GB of ram. Bummer, I totally did not know about that while I was debating over buying that computer on Wednesday before I decided on my dv4-1114nr.
  15. Oh and for future reference, just on another side note, if it ever says "at most stores" on the ad or it doesnt state a minimum amount, always be sure to give a call on Wednesday before the store closes to see if they have your item. If they dont have it by Wednesday night, then trust me, there not going to get it at all. Not that this ended up making a difference, but when I was thinking about the $349 Office Depot laptop, I made it a point to call my closest location to see if they had it....and this was even though they were suppose to have at least 10 units per store. Well as it turned on it was 8pm on Wednesday and they still had nothing on hand from what the computer stated. I asked to speak to a manager and he told me while we wont be having them on hand, this other store had some that was 5 miles away. Jesus Im so glad I didnt want in that line. I then asked him what would happen to the people that waited out there. And hes told me that he was going to put up a sign stating the fact on the door. However if I didnt bring it up and he didnt take notice of this fact on his own he said hed like to think that the store would get a shipment of them on Friday afternoon so that there wouldnt be too many disgruntled guests, otherwise he didnt know what he was going to do. "Like to think"...I dont like relying on "Like to thinks"...and I dont like being left with conclusions like "otherwise I dont know what I was going to do" So yea never wait in line anywhere if they dont have your item by close on Wednesday night, cause obviously they will most likely not be getting shipments on Thanksgiving. Alright well Ive been on this computer for way to long, but like I said Ill keep you up to date with what deals I think are good. Have a good weekend!
  16. I felt so frustrated for you that I looked into matters myself. Unfortunately on the ad it said "Available at most stores." So right there, that cuts removes any responsibility off of them. That being said, I looked into things for you and wanted to give you some good news. For starters, after looking at the specifications of the one you were looking to get, I think this computer at the price it was offered at was just an average deal. I think you will easily be able to get one similiar to that at a similiar deal, if not, for even $50 cheaper. In fact I think you could settle for something that has 3gbs of Ram and a 160hd. I mean if what you said about him not being into gaming is true, then I dont think he needs that extra stuff. And even if he loves music, he still doesnt need anything more than a 160GB hd because that right there could only over 35,000 songs. No one has that many songs! Plus with a smaller hard drive youll get more battery life out of the computer. Also if your willing to settle for a 14.1 inch screen, not only might you be able to save more money....but it will be cheaper, more lighter/portable (great for a college student), and more battery efficent. Average 15.4 inch screen gets 2 hrs of battery life per charge. A 14.1 inch gets 3hrs on average. Just something to keep in mind as well. And finally another reason you might want to be happy about in terms of not getting the Toshiba is that it came with a 64-bit Vista operating system. Ive heard a lot of people complaining about this newer operation system when it comes to installing programs on it. So yea, all in all, dont worry about this insignificant loss. Something better will come up trust me. In fact my computer will be coming in on Friday December 5th. From there I will have 14 days to return if for some reason I dont like it. I am going to use that time to look at ever ad for the next 3 weeks all the way up until December 19th to see if there ends up being an even better deal for me even though I dont think there will be. That being noted, I promise to keep an eye out for deals for you as well. If youd like to make it a point to tell me anything important like...MY COMPUTER HAS TO HAVE THIS....I DONT NEED THIS...etc then Ill take that into concern. Ads come out ever Sunday, so Ill give you a heads on what I think is good for the next 3 weekends over each one of those weekends. I hope this will help, and Im sure we can get your son something good that is affordable. And heres the cool thing...once we get him something...you will have 14 days just like me to look around in case something better comes along before you cant return it....so together we will keep an eye out on ads for the next two weeks that follow And if you see anything that catches your eye that I might not pick up on in the next three weeks, shoot me a post and Ill tell you what I think of it
  17. I dont like Toshiba laptops that much. Its just a personal opinon though. Plus I dont really think that particular Toshiba was anythign to write home about. In my eyes there were only 2 deals to take advantage of this black friday in reference to laptops. The one that was $349 at Office Depot if you were looking for the cheapest deal available...perfect for a college student looking using it for email, internet, music, etc. Then there was the one that I got from Best Buy for $499, the Dv4-1114nr...just a sweet all around laptop for under $500. I love it and didnt have to wait in line for it either, got in online on Thursday while everyone else was lining up at 5pm later in the day as I was leaving to go to my family's Thanksgiving dinner. Suckers Seriously though, even though the Toshiba wasnt all that great, I still would have been pist that I waited in line for nothing. I mean usually on the ads, it will say "*each store will receive 10 minimum" or something like that. I would contact their headquarters and say that you waited in line all night, were 3rd in place, and walked away with nothing because you guys couldnt keep your word on getting X amount. Maybe theyll do something for you. Like get that one if you really want it. Or get you a better/similar one. Look into it, its worth a try. I know if I were you I would, no way in hell I quitely walk away after freezing my butt off. Let me know how things go over, if you decide to take that route. Seriously though, for yourself, please do! That makes me really mad
  18. pffft yea youll be great man. Im really sorry things didnt work out for you though :/ Looking back on what I said I kinda feel bad. Im sorry that you were new Black Fridays this year, but I hope I didnt come off as a smartazz when I told you what I said. With Bestbuy for realllllly good deals youll always have to line about almost 12hrs ahead of time. Circuit City probably wont be around by the end of next year so no need to worry about them With other stores like Staples, you can usually get away with lining up around midnight. That aside, seriously though, you got a great computer for your needs. If your not gaming, then your great. However, if you want to get more computer for your money, really be patient before opening it up and check out cyber monday. Supposedly a lot of places offer a lot of deals online this coming Monday. Personally even though I got the computer I wanted this weekend, I still might end up enchaging mine out for one on Cyber Monday if I find a better one. Well see. And if you even have more time....give it until January or Feburary. Like I said though, if you just want to be done with shopping....done with looking around...done with keeping an eye out for good deals...have the peace of mind to know that you got a computer that fits your needs for under $500. Happy Holidays!
  19. Sempron sucks lol. Get ride of that crap and wait for a better deal to come around in the next couple of months. The computer convention is coming up in Feburary where there introduce all the new 2009 stufff, so just wait until they start putting crap on sale around that time. Youll find deals thats are just as good by that time. Plus a lot of retailers try to offer discount deals on a lot of there items during the slow shopping months like January and Feburary to get people in their doors. But yea how come you missed out on the Circuit City and Staples deals. And by the way I think the Office Depot Intel Dual Core for $349 was better than those two places deals. It came with 3gb ram and 160 gb hardrive to go along with it. So did you sleep in or what? Or was it that you just thought that you could walk up to the store and buy an hour before they opened Cause crap, I would have hoped you would have known this ahead of time. I past by a lot of stores at 8pm the night before and people had begun lining up already. So furture reference if you dont want to get stuck with a computer with a Sempron Processor, then be prepared to pull and all nighter out side. Or if your smart like me youll check to see if you can buy it online on Thanksgiving Day and save yourself the hassle of waiting in line
  20. I just want to comment that Im sooooo happy that I dont have to wait in those stupid lines again I can get a full nights sleep and then go for the small things early in the morning that no one goes for until after they get there big items, instead of devoting my whole night standing in front of Best Buy I just drove past two of them at 8pm tonight, and already there were 20-25 people at each of them Pffft no way in hell I was going to give up my family just to get a stinking laptop like those people did. So I gotta say it again, Im glad I got to eat a fully belly of full and can sleep the night away in my warm comfy bed. Goodnight and Goodluck to everyone that wasnt as lucky
  21. I just got the same one No waiting in line for us! High Five! I personally think its the best Black Friday deal that Ive researched this past week. It has an Intel Core 2 which as we know will save battery power and run faster than that one that Office Depot is selling for $349 that comes equipped with a some what older processor know was the Intel Dual Core which more better suited for a desktop. The it has a solid 3GB and 160GB hard drive to start you off with. I personally dont need or want a 250GB HD, wouldnt use it, and it would only take up more battery power. Its has a 14.1 inch widescreen. A nice size that will give you better battery life than a 15.4 inch. However, I will admitt, if I didnt own a desktop then Id definitely want a laptop with a 15.4 inch screen. However, since I do own a desktop, three things that are important to me when buying a laptop is: battery life, size (14.1 inch being the perfect screen), and speed. Im a student and carry my computer around a lot, I dont want a 15.6 inch clunker. But with all aside, I recommend this computer to ever. For just under $500 you are getting the best computer for your $$$. Now dont get me wrong if your looking for the cheapest deal and you arent going to use the computer for many things then the $350 at office depot it alright. Im personally willing to shell out the extra $150 for the better more up to date processer that will give me better battery life and faster speed. And on a side note, if you need a printer or just want more space and ram, you can get this exact same model that goes for $499.99 for $599.99 and it comes with a 250GB hardrive, 4GB Ram, Epson all-one-printer, and Virus Protection software. Personally I already have a printer, so I dont need one. I dont want the extra hardrive space. The Virus Protection I can get from anyone, plus thats just a bonus that costs Best Buy almost nothing to tack on. So really Id only be digging the extra GB of Ram, not enough to justify buying it for an extra $100 when I could get it for almost half that by itself. But who knows, maybe youd like that extra hard drive space, maybe you need a printer, maybe the virus protection gives you piece of mind, and maybe you like the extra GB of ram as much as I do. It all depends on the person. In the mean time I was to post these to deals up here so everyone has access to them. Seriously why wait "in line" to buy a laptop when you can buy it "on line" now. Id give links but it wont let me since Im new Heres the one I got: Best Buy's Website and search sku 9102017 and it will pop up Heres the same one, but with the extra stuff for another $100: Best Buy's Website and search sku 9999101400050007 and it will pop up. And heres an even better deal for you if you dont mind Windows Vista 64-bit instead of Windows Vista Home Edition. You get a Turion X2 Tl-60 processor which is basically AMD's version of the Intel Core 2 Duo. Then on top of it you get 4G of RAM and a 250GB hard drive. With a pretty cool looking graphic on the top of your case. And btw ignore my buddies one and only review. He wrote that and he doesnt even own the computer. He just wrote it so I would stop debating over which one to get the Intel Core 2 Duo or the Turion X2 Tl-60. Best Buy's Website and search sku 9125537 and it will pop up. Anyways good luck and Happy Thanksgiving!
