  1. I am almost ashamed to say I have never done this. The reason being is I know of so many people that cheat the system and it really burns me up. Please don't think bad of me. Every year I really want to do something but then think of people that abuse the system.

My oldest dd did a shoe box for a teenager in another country but that's it. I really like the the idea of doing something for seniors though. I am going to check into this this week. Thanks for the idea!

  2. Go to macmall.com Ipods are up to 36% off. I bought a 2nd generation 16 gb ipod touch for $269 and free shipping (free shipping is a rebate) about 2 weeks ago. The sale now is not quite as good but the same ipod is $277. I don't know which ipod you are looking for but these are a good deal.
  3. Another consideration is to get it directly from the Apple site. Free Shipping, plus free engraving. While new for 16GB is $299, you can get a refurbished one for $219.

Since it is refurbished by Apple, it has the same warranty as new. I have purchased 2 refurbs from Apple and they have worked perfectly. The package was standard cardboard, but everything else (software, headphones, cords, etc.) packaged as new.

    Just a thought...

I didn't think they had the refurbished second generation. I thought they were the first generation.

  4. If that is the 2nd generation I would go for it. I got the one at BB that was an oopsie mistake last week and I paid $249 with the engraving and p/u i store. It normally is sold at BB for $299. Ipods don't usually go down in price, you may find like free itunes cards or case but the $269 is a good price.

Ok thanks! Yes, it's for the second generation. I saw the post about the oopsie price thing but by that time it said the item wasn't available at best buy. Did you just get a name engraved on it? It says that if it's engraved it can't be returned but I'm assuming that doesn't void the warranty.

  5. I am trying to find a Ipod Touch for my daughter's 13th b-day (day after Christmas). I don't know anything about these and I am trying to find the best deal. I don't know if I should get her the 8 or 16GB. Can someone please explain the real difference in English (not tech talk please). I know the 16 has more space than the 8 but I guess my real question is does she really need the 16? I have been trying to find the best price but they vary greatly depending on the 8 or 16. I am planning on getting the second generation.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Joanne

  6. So just so I know when Im looking for you in the next couple of weeks, would you like one with a 160GB HD or one with a 250GB HD? Im guessing the 160GB one would be fine, but then you said ample storage space would be nice...so by ample, would 160GB fit that category? And your correct your not going to find Microsoft Office on any of the laptops, unless its a trail version. Hate to break it to you.

Alright well like I said Ill start looking into things for you in the next coming weeks. In fact here are two that I saw that I personally think are on an even grounds to the Toshiba you were originally looking at, but at a cheaper price. They are both at Office Depot.

    #1 (look up item # 978005)

    Compaq

    15.4 inch screen

    2GB Ram

    160GB HD

    Athlon Ql-62 Dual-Core Processor

Windown Vista Premium Edition (doesnt state 32 or 64 bit though)

    $399.99

I personally like all the specs. I love Athlon Dual-Core & Intel Core 2 Dou's processor, so the processor is pretty sweet. It could use another GB of ram to max it out, but that is something you can always get for cheap later on. Im not sure how I feel about Compaq. I hated them back in the day, but HP bought them out, so now they are supposedly suppose to be like HPs rather than the old kind of Compaqs that they used to be. All in all, I would have wanted this one a lot more than the Tosibha you were originally looking at for the price that its going at.

    #2 (look up item # 993090)

    Toshiba

    15.4 inch screen

    3GB Ram

    160GB HD

    Pentium Dual Core T-3200 Processor

Windows Vista Edition (doesnt state 32 or 64 bit though)

    $479.99

This one has the extra GB of Ram, which is a plus. The Pentium Dual Core T-3200 is an older processor, still good, but not as energy efficent and fast as the newer ones. Long story short, this processor is more suited for a desktop, but it is still good for a laptop. Finally its a Toshiba. I just cant get past the fact that Toshiba makes computers. Its still weird to me. On top of that, their key boards have been known to make a lot of noise when typing on them. Whether or not thats a big deal, its just something I thought you should known.

If it were me Id pick the Compaq if your ready to pull the trigger on something. However, it would be nice if we could find you a HP with 3GB Ram, 160 HD, and a 15.4 or 14.1 screen with a Turion, Athlon, or Core 2 Dou processor for $449. That would be ideal. But like I said, the Compaq isnt too shabby. So keep it in mind and tell me what youd like to do. Ill continue to keep my eyes open. Once again both of these will be at Office Depot and the sale begins tomorrow (Sunday November 30th.) While you wont have to line up early in the morning, I would get their maybe a half hour-an hour before the store opens just ot be safe.

Does anyone know if the Compaq will be available online?

    Thanks!

  7. It was advertised on the walmart webite. Gottadeal posted it here. I went to my local walmart and stood in line at midnight and was able to get one at 8 am. There was a total of 38. My best advice is to check here often and scan your favorite stores websites for secret sales a couple of days before the weekend. :)

Thanks! I heard about the sale here but I couldn't figure out what other ways sales like that are advertised as I didn't see any adds around here.

  8. I haven't seen a $229 advertised at Best Buy yet but I would probably have to camp out to get it. I will watch real close for that but we have small kids and are unable to leave them at home to get in line at midnight for one of these. It's such a bummer b/c we are never able to get any of the great deals.

How are the Secret Sales advertised or are they except on a site like this one? There were not any adds or anything around here about the WM secret sale that I could find.

    Thanks for the advice!

  9. Hi, I am new here so I hope I am posting this in the correct place! I received an email from GottaDeal about a WalMart Secret Sale last Saturday. There was a laptop for $298. What I am trying to figure out is, how do you find out about Secret Sales and does WalMart usually have more than one of these sales? I am trying to find another deal like this but I am not having much luck. Any help would be most appreciated!

    Thanks!
