  1. I haven't been impressed either. Sears always has good deals, so that is nothing new. But nothing I'm going to wait in line for. That doesn't mean I won't go. But I will probably go later in the day, and just jump on the computer early in the morning for the online deals.
  2. I'm all about that binder!!!! Normally, I just write down the stores and the items that I want with the prices. I may have to institute the binder thing... That's freaking awesome.
  3. Usually, because it's freaking COLD... I wear a t-shirt with a sweatshirt over top of it...a flannel jacket...the most comfortable shoes I own at the time...my Christmas toe socks...and that's it. It's too damn early and cold for me too be too festive!!!
  4. Tell her that you like going for the fun of it, and (if possible) she doesn't have to go if she doesn't want to. Find someone else who likes to go, take the kids...whatever you feel most comfortable with. Maybe your wife doesn't really like it, and was just doing it for you. Let it be her choice...doesn't mean you have to miss out.
  5. Same here. I never want/need something bad enough to camp out. All the same, I bring my cell phone fully charged, my shopping list, debit/credit cards, cigarettes, coffee, and as many layers as possible without having a heat stroke once inside the store!!! All though, if the weather keeps up (it's freaking in the 70's in NOVEMBER!?!?), then I won't need it!!!
  6. Fighting for parking spaces...and yes, I do mean fighting. I worked at a mall during Christmas time for many years when I was a teen, and I would have to get there two hours early to find a parking space in time to get to work. It was ridiculous how many times people "steal" your spot. People who fake (yes, FAKE) being handicapped (case in point, a larger woman WALKING into the store, had her FRIEND who worked there give her a wheelchair, then scream at people who were in her way because she "couldn't walk") to get what they want early. Last year at WM, a woman got an employee to cut open one of the door buster displays so that she could get what she wanted before everyone else because, she said, she was handicapped. I had just seen her walking in the store and all buddy buddy with the cart lady, so I flipped out! I had been there for 2 hours hunting down the display I needed (it's never in the place you expect...the dvd player I needed was next to the frozen food section...) and was parked next to the display. They tried to get me to move, and I hit the fan. I asked for a manager and said that if this woman gets a dvd player, that I would be getting one too. It's not MY fault that she knows the cart lady. She tried to lie, but I called her out. I also got rude and said that being overweight is not a disability. Needless to say, she didn't get the dvd player until the rest of us did!
  7. My parents have done that plenty of times. Especially when I worked at Sears, and got the employee discount on top of the BF sales and $10 cards. The big thing my in-laws and I do is we split up, and I give them money (and vice versa) and we buy the things we need so we don't have to go to each store. With 5 of us split up, we get done with our shopping in less than an hour!
  8. I always make a list of items that I am looking for WELL in advance of the ads. Then, I search the ads as I come across them to find good deals on any of those things, or look for good replacements if the sales are that good. Then, the night before, I get together with my in-laws (who got me into the BF shopping), and we work up a plan to divide and conquer! :)
  9. First, why don't you call and ask someone (city hall, police dept, etc.) if it's legal. You don't have to give them details, but just a generic question about it. I've seen a LOT of people do this in my area, but that doesn't mean they do it legally. So I don't know if it would be a problem (especially if you live in a slightly rural community where the police force are more worried about theft, assault, all out riots, etc. on BF), but it's worth checking. Secondly, saying that you will take donations is not a good idea. Especially if they are simply donating money for your bank account. People will get the idea that you are representing yourself falsely, and that's the quickest way to a bunch of angry people and the cops. Finally, like everyone has said...I think your biggest issue would be the store owners for solicitation UNLESS you have worked something out with them before hand. If you know a small business owner, or even someone working at a bigger store, maybe you can talk to them about providing refreshments for a fee from the customer, and it would make everyone happy.
  10. I would be hesitant to buy a used one. There are a lot of bugs they are still working out (google "red ring of death XBox360). Just FYI. I would wait until closer to X-mas, and I'm SURE that a lot of the stores will be doing the bundle packs with games, limited edition stuff, etc. They are as cheap as $199 now, so you may be hard pressed to find actual monetary discounts. I would just try and find the most bang for the buck. My brother works for Circuit City, so I'll ask him and keep ya posted.
  11. I wouldn't carry cash at all. It is WAY too close quarters, and it's a feeding frenzy for the "bump and grabbers" out there. Best to take a credit card or debit card, or at the very least a pre-paid VISA/MC/AMEX, whatever... I would also write down the number and the 1-800 in case it gets lost/stolen. You can report it and get your money back with most cards. Better safe than sorry! As for the money...$500 is good if you are being conscious of your spending. I tend to get carried away myself... :)
  12. I would be careful about bringing your kid, no matter how old, to places like Wal-Mart and Target. Things are absolutely crazy there, and I myself have almost been trampled a couple of times. You would think that people would be nice because you have a kid and not push you...but that just isn't the case. They see the sale signs, and all bets are off. That being said, find out if there is anyone else you know going to the stores that you want to go to, and maybe you can tag team. Someone can stay with the kid, and you purchase all the items needed for both of you, and vice versa. Either use cash, or keep a tally of receipts and find out who owes who at the end of the day. Get gift receipts for all the items, and that way if they need to return it later, they can, and you can still keep the receipt, and vice versa. I've taken my kid out (from less than a year old!), but I go with a group of people.
