  1. Another year down... It was fun and I will be back again next year. For those that are not aware, Gottadeal is year round, NOT JUST BLACK FRIDAY... There are great deals all year long (of course nothing like Black Friday) that you can find.

Once again, first at Best Buy... The manager even knew me by name and came over to say "hello Ernest" lol. As my group was walking in behind me, they heard her telling the other works "That's Ernest, he's always first every Black Friday" lol.

  2. ya and whats bad about that is im looking  at spending around $400 in video games and movies this year, and hopefully jay will land me that Sharp 50" TV so this year i will spent more than i have any other year and its still only 1/3 of what they want for elite lol

I just dont ever see me spending $1500 there in one year, just nothing great there for me to justify the cost when i can get it other places for cheaper or with better perks

You have to know how to work it right. First, spending $1500 in Best Buy is very easy... I can't remember the last time I didn't spend that much honestly. Second, if you have the Best Buy card you can get 5% back on all sales in rewards. That is a 5% savings right there off their already good prices. If you don't think their prices are good, they also price match.

  3. Just an observation of the sales for Elite members vs. non Elite member early access sales. There were many more items available for Elite members in the early access (some below the posted sale prices) than there  were for non Elite members. I bought most of what I needed, but checked for a few other items I wasn't sure about getting or sold out, that although available and not sold out, are full price, not the Black Friday sale price. I checked numerous items that I know were available to Elite members and they are full price for the regular members even though their early access is now available. Once again,  having the Elite helped me get many of the non ticketed items early and not have to run around the store hunting for them on Black Friday. I still intend to be first in line Thursday when they open, but even that does not secure the items if you have to run through the entire store to find them.

  4. I have checked all the ads and unless I missed it, none of the Black Friday deals are for a 4K HDR. All the deals on Samsung are 4K UHD, and mostly the 6 series. Most of the 6 series models are not Samsung Hub compatible, which is one of the main things I am looking for. They do have the mirror option, which helps since I am trying to integrate it with my refrigerator, but I'd prefer the HDR, Samsung Hub, and bluetooth options if I can find it. Also, I would prefer either a 7 series or better yet an 8 series. Unfortunately most Black Friday ads are a clearance to get rid of older outdated stock to make room for the new.

  5. Most of the smaller items will be available online, but the doorbusters are usually in store only. The TVs I'm sure are going to be in store only, however, Best Buy has been great at having plenty of the doorbuster items. Last year the store I was at gave out tickets for the TV to the entire line, and still had tickets left. They had over 100 of the doorbuster tv in stores last year. The equivalent this year would be the $179 Sharp 4K UHD tv.

Congrats and look for a PM from me to claim your prize.

That's it for t-shirt contests this year. If you didn't win (or even if you did) and would like to order one or more shirts, we have a few left here:

    http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/Shirts

That ordering page will go away tomorrow so get your order in tonight if possible.

While the t-shirt contests are over, we're still giving away $100 gift cards here: http://forums.gottadeal.com/topic/277360-contest-discuss-black-friday-win-100-gift-cards/

And a Fire HD 8 tablet and $25 Amazon gift card here: http://forums.gottadeal.com/topic/278522-amazon-deal-thread-win-a-fire-hd-8-tablet-or-25-gift-card/

... and we might start giving out some of next year's t-shirts, so stay tuned... ;)

Thank you very much. The one I got a few years ago is a bit faded and has been worn every Black Friday since I got it, and made it into the local paper a few times :-) Although it will probably be below freezing here on Thanksgiving when the reporters usually show up I will try to remove my jacket so I can get your shirt and site in the local papers. They always interview the first group on line, which is usually my family and I, lol.

  7. To do all that they will have to lose a lot of their other items. Fact is the Target nearby is in a mall and you have to drive past a ShopRite to get there. If someone is looking for food they are going to go there for the larger selection, but now if someone wants other Target basic items, they will have to go to Walmart.

  8. Hate their scrolling ads. Looking forward to a PDFs. Funny though that kohls has a better deal on Xbox one and ps 4s.

Don't always trust the advertisements for Best Buy. They have been known to give even better deals the day of the sale. Last year, their ads all showed the Samsung S7 edge with $250 gift card. That was one of the main deals I went there for, and they gave $400 gift cards that I used on my other purchases the same day.

  9. I have only shopped on BF with another person on two occasions.  One year I shopped with my sister.  I guess it was fun, but she lacked the preparation and urgency to maximize yield, if you know what I mean.  On another occasion, I took my oldest son.  He was a teenager and that worked out great as we split the list and met at the register at each store.

This year, I purchased two GD shirts for me and my youngest (who is 20).  I won a third and will invite #1 to join us.  Should be fun.

I never shopped BF with my wife.  She watched the kids and put up the tree while I was taking care of business.  I think this is ideal.

I have seen my share of other peoples' children out on BF and I generally do not think it is a good idea.  For starters, how do you shop for them with them?  You cannot send them away into the throng while you shop for them.  Weather is a problem.  Cold toes for me is part of the fun.  Do not want to see kids uncomfortable.  Then there is the up too late behavior.  No one needs to be around someone else's kids who should have been tucked in three hours ago.  Get a sitter or shop online until your kids are old enough to enjoy the mayhem.

I train my family early. I will walk fast, and if they can't keep up and stay with me... I will not take them on Black Friday. Believe me, they have learned to move fast and stay with me, lol. Even my wife who is usually very slow knows that on Black Friday she better pick up the pace. Been doing this since before I was married or had any kids. Nothing will keep me from going, and no one will slow me down. This is probably about 23 or 24 years that I have been doing Black Friday shopping, and for the past 14 years in the area I now live in. Sorry, but I will never reveal what locations in order to keep from anyone beating me on the lines, lol.

  10. There are many things to think about if you are planning to bring any children. KNOW what it is going to be like at the location. If there is ANY chance of them getting harmed, don't be stupid, leave them home. My kids have begged me every year to stay with me when I camp out at Best Buy. Being New York, it can get pretty cold. We have blankets, a propane heater, and if all else fails, they can sit in the car and warm up. Usually the car is the first in the parking lot and within 20 - 30 feet from where we set up camp. Now that they are older, they help out and either grab items that I can't get tickets for or get on the line. We always heavily coordinate everything and I have been going to the same location for about 13 years. When they were younger things were harder and they would stay with their grand parents. The first year they went it was because they kept bugging me because they wanted to go. As long as we were able to find ways for it to be safe, we gave them that chance but they often stayed either in the carriage or right next to it. It has to be a personal decision that only the parents can make. What really bothers me is an unprepared parent that has a child crying because they are cold. I have been known to invite the child (not the adults in the their group) to join us and stay warm. Problem is, for many years, many of the items I bought on Black Friday were upgrades to make camping out easier, lol. My wife has often complained "how much can you be saving when you buy all this stuff to camp out on line" lol. I have tents, tables, chairs, extra chairs, a canopy, blankets, heater, plenty of food, water, drinks, and coffee... Where we go they are usually pretty nice about it and if we leave to go to the bathroom (they do not have porta potties available) or if someone needs to warm up in their car, or even get something to eat, as long as they are not gone for too long they will hold their spot for them. Many of those that arrive early are the same ones every year and we all help each other out and often will grab items for each other and meet up at the register and hand them to each other.

  11.

It wasn't that long ago. Ten years ago to be exact that you could wade through a Black Friday ad laden newspaper and see the plethora of stores which offered the only way back then to entice you into their stores. The online experience was just beginning to show itself as a way to entice customers, but back then it was secret sales that pointed you to the brick and mortar store. Those were some exciting times and you started to see wacky campers stay a night or two out in the cold for a $199 computer.

Fast forward ten years and the playing field is considerably narrower. Some giants of the day in their specialties have shuttered their doors for good and others are a mere shadow of themselves and are on life support. In the next few days, I will be visiting some of these stores and reflecting upon their significance to the shopping experience. I will be snapping a few pictures as well, and invite all of you to do the same. But for now the roll call:

    Circuit City: Gone 2009

    CompUSA: Gone

    HHGregg: Gone

    KMart: Almost gone

    Sears: Almost gone

    OfficeMax: Swallowed By Office Depot

    TigerDirect: Almost gone Online only

    Montgomery Ward: Gone 2001

    Sam Goody/Musicland: Gone

    K B Toys: Gone

    Borders: Gone

Coconuts and Camelot Music: swallowed by FYE

EBGames and Rhino: swallowed by Gamestop

    Sound Advice: Gone

Do you have any favorite memories of these places? Please feel free to mention any that were local favorites of yours. Do you have any new stores opening in your area that might participate in Black Friday? We are seeing a rise in the super dollar market so Ollie's is new to the area and reminds me of Big Lots.

Sad... Gander Mountain can be added to that list as well. They closed all the stores near me, and many more nationwide. Sadest loss of them all was Circuit City. After that, Best Buy and Walmart didn't have the competition to hold the really great sales any more.

  12. As I've done the past few years, I've looked at the data from the past several years including when the ad was leaked for some popular stores and what date Black Friday fell on each year. Based on these numbers and this year's Black Friday date (November 24th), here is the "average" day you can expect these ads this year:

    November 5: Sears, Sam's Club

    November 6: Kohl's, JCPenney, Meijer, Macy's

November 7: Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, Kmart

November 8: Office Depot, Gander Mountain, Walgreens

    November 9: Staples

November 10: CVS Pharmacy, Bass Pro Shops

    November 11: Dick's Sporting Goods

    November 12: Menard's, GameStop

    November 13: Lowe's, Old Navy

    November 15: Home Depot

    November 24: Black Friday 2017

You can go back through the last 11 years to see the leaked dates for many stores here: http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/Dates

Of course you may remember that the last few years we had a crazy 36-hour periods that saw ads from Walmart, Best Buy, Target, Kohl's and many others all released right after each other. I expect something similar this year around November 6-8 (and the data above backs it up), so be prepared...

I think Gander Mountain may be gone. I know all the locations any place near me have closed in the past year. The dates look about right for most, especially Best Buy and Walmart, the 2 main places I care about. I figured between the 7th and the 11th this year based on previous release dates. Doesn't mean it may not release early and then under threat, be pulled again, as usual.

  13. I am thinking about getting one of me DDIL's a Vera Wang purse from Kohls. She saw it recently and liked it. If it goes on sale BF will I get it for a better price is always the question that drives me crazy :runaway:

So how do you decide. I check last years ad but that brand is not shown. I am not trying to be cheap but with a large family the budget is limited and I want to get the most bang for my buck and get them things they would really like :gdclap:

If I'm right, many clothing and accessory stores offer gift cards or points based on the purchases made on any items even if it was not a sale item. In most cases I stick to electronics, and often anything that breaks I will wait until Black Friday unless it is something I can not wait for. I had a TV die about a month ago, but I am waiting till next month to replace it.

4PM for Best Buy this year? Earlier every year... that just means standing in line less, lol. I remember when they opened 7am Friday, then earlier and earlier every year to make sure they were first, lol. I guess they are trying 4pm this year rather than the 5pm (I believe) last year.

  15. So we looked at things different this year, Did most of the big items and they really were not big items on line, The 55 inch TV for work bought on line at walmart along with some TV box sets and the wall mount. Bought the 19.00 printer on line at Best Buy and some movies. We left the house @ 3:30 pm headed to Penney's missed the made dash and  the coupon off they offered but it was okay, Then we went to Gordmans for their opening it was not do bad and my daughter and her dog did great. Then to Yonkers's Had to have those boots. Next we did go to Walmart about 1 after opening and got a few things that were left, Kept her out of electronics as that was packed her and my other daughter went to the movies at the other end of the store as the rush was over. We then went to Target, and back to another Walmart were I got the 39.00 heater. So all in all it was uneventful no problems and she had a great time as she has always had. The only problem she is has was the women who gave her a hard time because she wouldn't let her pet Phoebe.

    Thanks for all the advice

So glad it all worked out well  for you and your daughter. I can understand someone that doesn't understand that they shouldn't pet a working dog when they look at it as a pet, but ask them if they would try to pet a police dog. I'm sure it was all a matter of them not understanding the dog was more than just a pet and was a working dog.
