  1. Does that mean they will let me get the tickets for the Toshiba laptop and also for the Compaq netbook?
  2. Hope you get the Nook you want. For only a $50 savings it hardly makes sense really. Standing on line all night does get addicting but if there's not enough of a value to it then there is no real point. Unless you're saving enough money to make it worthwhile, I'm sure other places will have them for sale as well. Also, you'd be surprised how many will probably wind up on Ebay after the online sale and once the doorbusters are gone the prices on Ebay drop so much that you could probably get the exact one in BB for about $20-$30 more including the shipping, and you won't be paying the tax either, so it's only a difference of $10 - $20. The Ebay market often gets flooded with doorbuster deals by Friday night to the point they compete with each other and supply and demand.... lots of supply and although the demand is there, people are only going to buy it if they get a good deal on it. I've never sold doorbusters on Ebay myself, but a few times I questioned my own sanity for standing on lines all night when they flood the market so badly that they only make a profit of about $50 on a laptop. By no means do I approve of the idea, but it happens every year. The ones that are really getting screwed by it are the customers that wait in line all night and don't get it because someone bought them all to resell at a profit.
  3. Many "online stores" even though they are the same name as the store, are NOT the same as the brick and mortar store, and in fact some are in competition. 1 example of this the old KB Toys, if you ever went to their site it was E-Toys. I found a few others like that as well. The other possibility is Best Buy in many cases gets a seperate SKU or model for many of their BF doorbusters. You will never find the SKU in any store, including Best Buy except for that one time. The bad part is it makes researching specs on the item next to impossible and for some reason no one puts the processor speeds any more like they used to do. Now they put only the Make, model, HD size, and RAM size. Years ago they used to include processor speed to let people really determine what they are getting and compare the different deals. The fact that no one gives that information and they all used to makes it appear to be a conspiracy for some unknown reason.
  4. OK, most of us that camp out are familiar with the tickets at Best Buy and how they now only give 1 ticket per item TYPE. Any clue on if they are counting netbooks as laptops? Also, if so, they have the deal $150 off any Samsung laptop... If they determine the netbook as a laptop when they give out tickets, then wouldn't it be fair for them to let customers get the Samsung netbooks at the $150 off or will they determine the netbooks as laptops when it's in their favor and then not allow netbooks $150 off when you go to use the Samsung deal? It's a catch 22 really, call netbooks laptops to keep you from getting a laptop and netbook ticket, but then say the netbook is NOT a laptop when customers try to get $150 off a Samsung netbook, which based on my research they have a Samsung netbook as low as $279.99, with $150 off that would be $129.99 which I highly doubt they will do. I just feel they will not allow anyone to get the laptop (I want the Toshiba for $349) and the netbook (Compaq at $149), and then also not allow a Samsung netbook to be sold at $150 off. Anyone know what Best Buys policy on that will be?
  5. I completely agree. It has a lot to do with WHERE you are located. Some locations near me they start lining up Monday or Tuesday night. The place I go to is in a mall and mall security will call the police if anyone lines up before Thursday morning, but if you are not there early, you will not get anything. The time you need to get there also gets earlier each year. Years ago I used to get there at 5:30pm and get doorbusters, at this point I usually get there by 8am and if security chases me away I park in the neighboring lot until they let people start lining up. Do your recon and know what time the lines form in your location. Did my first round of recon today.
  6. They have most online. I know a few that actually picked up the doorbuster laptops while on line waiting for BB to open. It's got a lot to do with luck though, I prefer to remove the "chance factor" and just be first in line, lol.
  7. Walmart usually doesn't sell their BF items until 5am. As long as you aren't looking for any major BF doorbusters you should be ok at BB arriving as the doors open. If all goes well. by the time the back of the line is getting into the store I'm usually on my way out, lol.
  8. 1) it's not the same desktop, the BF computers usually have a SKU and model # for just that item. The specs are not the same either 2) the BF deal includes a monitor and printer, the HP I think you are referring to is just the PC unit by itself, no printer, no monitor.
  9. Printers are pretty much disposable, they make their money on the cartridges, not the printer itself. Economicly if they gave everyone a free printer and each person bought about 6 ink cartridges they have made a profit on it. It will probably cost at least $80 just to bring in the old printer you have just to look at it, that does not include parts or labor. You can check BB, they have a repair center but they have a base price that often includes up to 1hr of labor. Parts and anything past that hour cost extra. It would probably be cheaper to buy the new printer and sell the old cartridges on Ebay.
  10. $149 is as low as you're going to find. Windows 7 alone costs close to $100 if you wanted the upgrade your older system. I would however suggest you get in line Wednesday night if you want it though depending on where you are located.
  11. Yeah, you'll probably get it at 9am, BUT..... 5 minutes to get the items, 3hrs to pay for it. Most BB lines take about 2-3hrs at that time of the day. If I'm not there early with someone to hold my spot I don't even bother. You'll lose out on too many other deals trying to get that 1 item.
  12. The BB deals are usually available at midnight if they are available online. The usually have many of the doorbusters but timing is everything since they sell out FAST. I have never had luck getting most of the hot items online. then again I'm usually on line at that point but I do have access to internet on my phone and laptop I always bring BF.
  13. Looks like I may have to start looking for more ads. I was hoping BB would be the answer to most of the items I'm looking for. Still looking for a set of cordless phones which in the past BB always had. No awesome desktop deal. Although they have cheap notebooks, there aren't really any cheap laptops, and I'm not a fan of Compaq, lol. At this point I guess the Toshiba Laptops leads in my list of items to get. I won't even try getting a laptop at Walmart, the one near me is a bunch a cheating ^$#**$#. Any good doorbusters in the electronics dept. they let the employees get first shot at them before the public does. Hopefully Staples has a few good deals. I'll be on line somewhere Black Friday, the BB ad usually makes it clear where I'll be going but once again they didn't. Last year was the first year I wasn't waiting all day Thursday for BB to open, this might be the second year.
  14. I'm starting to have some hopes at least on SOME items. Best Buy just had a $279 laptop for sale. I'm not sure they will ever have the $229 laptops again but it's giving me some hope, lol. If not a laptop for $229 maybe a decent specs laptop for a little more. The cheap laptops get people in the door faster than anything though so don't be surprised by a cheap one. With technology upgraded from last year the LCD tvs will be less and they will have some sales on LED tvs but only about $200 off the regular prices. The LCDs will be cheaper than last year, but then again the retail of most of them now are lower than last years BF deals.
  15. Exactly the reason I do not recommend kids going with the parents on BF. I have seen far too many times people fall and everyone is so interested in getting in the store they will walk around... OR OVER the fallen customers. I can't remember any time I actually saw someone pick them up, and if they tried they'd probably be knocked over as well.
  16. We can see Best Buys network outside my location but we do not have the passwords to get into the network. I have internet on my phone but it's still easier and quicker on a laptop, lol.
  17. I think the first time I did BF was the year my daughter was born in 1998, but it seems WAY longer, lol. At that time it was mostly stores like KB Toys, I've since gained the experience to tackle stores like Best Buy and Walmart, lol.
  18. Yup, every year you have them... Many will leave their chairs and all outside until after they finish shopping. I usually put all my stuff in the car about an hour before the doors open.
  19. I never start before BF. Even with other deals throughout the season prior to BF I often hold out until BF or at least until I see the sales before making any purchases. Luckily thanks to Gottadeal I learn the sales before BF so if there is anything not on sale BF I can usually get it earlier that week. Longer the stores threaten legal actions and refuse to allow their ads posted the less chance they have of getting me to buy there since I buy where the best deals are and usually have most of my list and planning done by the Monday before BF.
  20. I know the feeling. Usually Santa gets them each 1 gift and the rest are from mom and dad. The ones from Santa we are very careful not to let them see or it will ruin it. My oldest knows the truth now and as long as she follows the rules not to tell the others she will get a present from Santa each year until they know from US telling them, lol. We usually only have 1 present for each from Santa though, no point in the big fat guy getting all the credit after we do all the work, lol.
  21. The registers at Walmart will not allow any BF items to be sold for the sale price until 5am. IF they even let you buy the item prior to 5am, they will charge you regular price and not PM their ad if you return later. Also, many stores, as I believe Jim said, have BF clauses in the PM. They will not match any doorbusters and many will not match any BF sales.
  22. We have a pretty strict rule that any item they see in the carriage (of course we try to hide it as best we can regardless) they will not get. They don't go on BF but there are numerous times where we have them with us and see a good item on sale and decide to pick it up. On BF my oldest daughter has been going for the past couple of years and she knows better than to open her mouth and tell her siblings what they are getting or she will lose 1 gift for each item she tells them about. She has been very good about that in the past and we have been willing to take her with us because of it.
  23. Depends on the deals. If they suck as bad as last year it will be same or less. I wait to buy anything new for a few months knowing that the BF sales are usually good enough to save me enough money by waiting. If the sales are good I buy items to replace and upgrade items I already have. Last year I stuck pretty much to just gifts since there were no really great deals on the items I would normally upgrade. Last year was by far one of the cheapest BFs in years. I have about $4000 cash saved up, same as last year, in fact more than half of it IS from last year since I didn't need to spend it. A few years ago I would often spend at least $3000 in Best Buy alone. As the deals get worse, I buy less unnecessary items and stick just to gifts. Last year was the first year in a long time I didn't even go into BB for anything. I'm really hoping for a good BB sales year but with Circuit City gone I have my doubts. Circuit City used to be literally right across the street from Beast Buy where I shop.
  24. Unfortuneately the BB near me is on "mall owned property" and they have strict rules. No Tents, No Generators, no Potties. My normal list is : Coffee Camping heater (a real hit, always have tons of people asking to warm up with it, lol) Spare propane Coffee Water Juice Snanks Coffee Laptop Movies to watch on the laptop Blankets Chairs List of what to get and spare paper to seperate list by area to send in the "team" in a way we all seperate and take sections. If more than 1 in our group wants an item we will have 1 person in that area pick up the items for the group. We all meet back on the line with our line holder member, split up our items we retrieved and pay for them. Total elapsed time from store opening till we are out of BB if usually under 30 minutes.
