Oh, since the Fuze is an MP3/Video player, I assumed you were looking at the $39.99 one over at JCP with video playback capability. Here is the one you are looking at: http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?ItemID=14bea2c&ItemTyp=C&GrpTyp=PRD&ShowMenu=T&ShopBy=0&SearchString=mp3&RefPage=SearchDepartment.aspx&s4PageSize=15&CmCatId=searchresults&Search1Prod=True It's still a no-name 1GB player. I'd really recommend the 1GB Sansa Clip over at Amazon for $33.37 shipped: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Sansa-Clip-Player-Black/dp/B000VIHFZ4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1227562896&sr=8-3 I have the 4GB version of the Sansa Clip. The sound quality is terrific, long battery life, fully compatible with Windows Media Player. You can't go wrong. The clip also has a built-in audio recorder (might be fun!) and an FM radio tuner. It even has a graphic equalizer. And the built-in clip on the Sansa Clip means that you don't need to buy a case for it. Just clip it to a pocket or belt. The Clip is so popular, they're coming out with a new 8GB version. Review: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archives/2007/10/sandisk-sansa-clip-review.php

I doubt they'll get it again... Do you have to have video? Strictly music-only MP3 players are less expensive. The JCP player shows as $39.99 for me, not $19.99.

If you want an early bird at Best Buy, plan to get in line at 12 noon on Turkey Day. Seriously. Go here for further discussion... http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=115158 I'm closing this thread. http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Threads/sign0074.gif

Details: https://www.stapleseasyrebates.com/img/staples/paperless/pages/Landing.html It's ridiculously easy -- nothing to get lost in the mail, everything is done online, no checkboxes or info to miss filling out (and have your rebate nulled).

This came in the latest e-mail newsletter... More info will be posted here as received. http://i33.tinypic.com/vngyh0.jpg Link: http://www.gottadeal.com/Deal/29844

The Fuze can only play MPEG4 video files and only at 20 frames per second (30 frames or faster per second is needed to keep it from being "jerky" in any sort of action sequence). Fuze review: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archives/2008/03/sandisk-sansa-fuze-review.php The View is much better at playing videos, supporting MPEG4, WMV, and H.264 in resolutions of 320 x 240 at 30FPS. In the $40 range, I'd rather see you go with a real name-brand. It's a shame you didn't get in on the Creative ZEN 2gb MP3 player for $15. That was an incredible buy. Here's a Philips 2GB MP3 player with video: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16855503021 $44.99 shipped. It even plays .wmv video. And don't ever think that your kid would "get tired of it". Think about it this way, when you were growing up, did you get tired of your Sony Diskman/Walkman? Probably not. Ipod-specific speakers have connections that are only found on certain Ipods. They would not be compatible with just any ol' MP3 player. You need to find portable speakers that connect to a 3.5mm headphone jack -- preferably powered either by electricity or batteries.

The one at JC Penney is a no-name MP3 player of questionable quality, complete with questionable battery life. Try to stick with a real name brand: Apple, Microsoft, Creative, Sansa, etc. Here's the link on JCP's site: http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?ItemID=14bea28&ItemTyp=C&GrpTyp=PRD&ShowMenu=T&ShopBy=0&SearchString=2GB+mp3&RefPage=SearchDepartment.aspx&s4PageSize=15&CmCatId=searchresults&Search1Prod=True I've been thrilled with my Sansa - had it 9 months so far.

Most LCD televisions have either a VGA or DVI connection to allow them to hook up to a computer. However, the resolution on TVs is so lousy you won't enjoy it -- icons and print size will be about 1/3 larger and appear "fuzzy" due to lack of pixels. Think about it this way, a 22" computer monitor has a resolution of 1680 x 1050. But a 22" LCD tv has a resolution of 1366 x 768.

The 4GB Fuze is $65.76 shipped at Buy.com. That's better than the Dell deal by $4.23! http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=207935935&listingid=34649857&dcaid=17902 Also, the 4GB Fuze will be $49.99 on Black Friday from RadioShack, BB and CC.

Whitehall, PA has the eMachines 19" monitor for $119.99. Wyomissing, PA has the same monitor for $99.99. And the layout of the first page is different...

The TomTom 125 only has maps for the 50 States. The 130 has the maps of Canada too. That's the only difference: http://www.gpslodge.com/archives/023062.php TomTom has a terrific "unofficial" forum with tons of people making up POI lists. http://www.tomtomforums.com (I'm "Genius of Love" over there, it's a play on words for the Tom Tom Club song of the same name). To see the POI lists, poke around in here: http://www.tomtomforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=14 Text to Speech and announcing street names is two different ways of saying the exact same thing. Yes, they all will. Some are slower at it than others.

Anyone Seen Deals on regular DVD recorders? Not VHS combo?
Marcster replied to yellowlilax's topic in 2008
lilax -- you could always build or buy a HTPC (Home Theater PC). http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Mil-Computer/geek1.gif -
Yeah, flash based games should be fine, as long as they don't require 3-D visualization (like first-person shooters, stuff like that). But by and large, you should be fine. It would also be good for AIM, e-mail, general web surfing. Not very good for creating school papers, unless you added an external monitor and full-size keyboard and mouse (the laptop would operate almost like a tower).

The music purchased from iTunes can be shared on up to 4 devices in the same household (I'm not 100% certain of that because my Shuffle is the only iPod-device I've ever used). The first time that your niece runs iTunes on her computer at her house and tries to sync her iPod to it, it is going to ask if she wants to erase the entire iPod because the digital license for that music does not exist on her computer (because it's on yours). You'd be better off just giving her a iTunes gc of her own so she can download her own music. While you physically could load it up with music copied from CDs in your personal collection and give it to your niece (which would not protected by Apple's AAC digital-rights management), it would not be legal in the eyes of the RIAA. Like I said previously, in my eyes, it's one thing if your daughter buys Hannah Montanah's latest CD and then rips it so she can put it on her Zune. It's another if she rips it and passes the MP3s on to her cousin. And, quite honestly, the RIAA has had a standpoint since 2006 that ripping CDs to load the music onto an MP3 player is a violation of copyright law: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riaa#Efforts_against_copyright_infringement
-
No need... I was just pointing it out. Obviously it doesn't matter to the person who posted right after me (above you). It's one thing to rip a CD to listen to on your MP3 player (or your kids). It's another to do it and give it to someone else, since you would be retaining the music as well...
-
You would not enjoy using graphics programs on an 8.9" screen and the single-core 1.6 Ghz processor would be poky while doing it.
-
Yep, that scenario will be covered in the instructions of the DVD-recorder too.
-
That would break copyright law. The recipient didn't purchase the CDs and you'd still have the use of them (and so would the recipient, essentially). You could load it with copyright-free music, from sites such as www.garageband.com.

Unless Inkstop comes through with a great flash drive or memory card price, I'm staying home this year... I might try to order those 19" monitors at Best Buy (online), but no B&M stores are worth it to me. C'mon Newegg, don't let me down. http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Good%20Luck/thcare010.gif

You guys already have a VCR right? Just buy a DVD-recorder, hook up the VCR and dub over the movies onto DVD. Then disconnect the VCR and put it up in the attic next to the 45s, air-pop popcorn maker, microwave with no turntable, the B&W 13" tube TV, and other items of obsolete electronics that none of us can bear to part with... http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Non-Smiling/Clever.gif

The XL has the larger 16:9 4.3" widescreen format. The 125 has the 4:3 3.5" standard format.

How about this: http://i.testfreaks.co.uk/images/products/600x400/47/samsung-s860.197423.jpg SAMSUNG S860 Black 8.1 MP 2.4" 230K LCD 3X Optical Zoom Digital Camera $88.99 $8 off all Digital Cameras coupon code CAMERA118 [Exp 11/30] Shipping is around $9.00 for UPS 3-day. Go here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830144134 "CNET editors' take * By: Will Greenwald * Published on: 12/04/2007 Samsung just revealed two new budget digital cameras, the 7-megapixel S760 and the 8-megapixel S860. They don't have much in the way of gimmicks or high-end features, but with respective suggested retail prices of $170 and $180, we wouldn't expect them to. Besides the different resolutions, the S760 and S860 are essentially identical cameras. Both use the same 38mm-to-105mm-equivalent 3x lens, bolstered slightly by the camera's sensitivity-bumping, shutter-quickening digital image stabilization. They include a handful of useful software features, like a face-detecting autofocus/auto-exposure mode and a variety of on-camera photo-editing options. They don't seem to offer anything unique to really separate them from the growing number of sub-$200 7- and 8-megapixel cameras out there, but they still present an option for budget-conscious users. Samsung plans to ship both the S870 and S760 in January.
