I have this card, but it just has the regular bonuses. I wonder if I could get them to switch it for me.

This card is new and basically has the same features as the Citi Dividend card that everyone loves. It gives you the 0% APR on BOTH purchases and balances for up to a year (the Citi card just does it for balances)

Two questions which are probably in the fine print:

  • 1) Is there a maximum rewards you can earn per year? For CitiBank Dividend it's $300 per account.
  • 2) Are the rewards $ automatically credited to your account at the end of each billing cycle or do you have to request a check?

I just called Chase and asked about a product change. They said that it was an option for me, however, this card wouldn't be available until the end of August. I can wait a few weeks. I won't have to close my account and apply for a new one which I don't want on my credit report.

Cool! Thanks Brad!

I do not know of a limit on rewards, but with my current card, as soon as you accumulate $25 worth of points, you can order a rewards gift certificate or cashback check.

"Redeem your points for cash back checks OR get gift certificates from your favorite merchants including Best Buy, The Home Depot, Pier One Imports, Macy's and more."

So it sounds like you have to request them.

www.Chase.com currently has no info on this new card.

The card I currently carry is http://www.bankone.com/answers/BolAnswersDetail.aspx?top=you&segment=PFS&topic=CreditCards&item=2Q7H

except I have a fixed APR.

BankOne was bought out by Chase. I just read the small print and it looks like you can accumulate a maximum of 60,000 points per year which is $600. I would assume the new card would be the same or very close.

Damn. I want cash and it would be nice if it were 100% automated.

This is one feature I like about my Chase PerfectCard

It's pretty easy to request them. It is all done online. When I see I have 2500 points, I log in and have them send me a check.

The Amazon Visa (at least my business version of it) is also done through Chase/BankOne/FirstUSA and those gift certificates are sent automatically. But I suppose they want to try to get you to get gift certificates from their "preferred" merchant partners instead of the cash. It would be nice if you could get higher-$ GCs instead of cash - i.e. choose $100 cash or $150 Best Buy gift card, etc...

Hmm, been looking for a better rewards card and this looks pretty solid. I did want to get a MasterCard because there are occassionally deals that you have to use a MC to get. However, the 0% APR on purchases certainly pushes this one above the Citi Dividend card IMO. Of course, I could get both... :teacher:

So, Brad, is this the best overall rewards card out there right now, in your opinion? I should get the full 12 months of 0% or close to it since my credit score is quite high, which would be great since I just bought a house and have a lot of expenses that I'd love to defer right now.

If you can get close to 12 months I'd say it's a very good option. Like I said, it has basically all the advantages of the Citi Dividend, plus the 0% on purchases which in your case really helps.

whoa this sounds cool! i might have to check this out soon. Is this permanent, or just a limited time offer? What about the thing above that said its not available until August? Any info on if there are limits to the cashback or not? Tagged for later anyway!

edit: Somewhat of a tangent...How does changing jobs affect credit / credit history / applications? I've been at the same place for the past 4-5 years or so, but recently took a new job and am in the process of going through that. I start there in 2 weeks. Should I wait until I'm at the new place for awhile before doing anything credit related? What about getting a new car? Gah, its late and I should get to bed....

The thing? lol.

I have Chase cashback rewards card. If the program is similiar there will be a $600 limit on rewards. You can't find this card on the Chase website yet, so I am thinking what Chase told me on the phone is true.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hmm... I just cancelled a Home Depot VISA, and still have 4 outstanding VISAs plus a AmEx Blue Card, but only really use the Amazon VISA and AmEx ones. Wonder if all those will prevent me from yet another CC? Can't pass up a 12 month 0% APR card, though!

Then I can go back and buy all the other deals on gottadeal. :-)

I called about this today to switch my card's reward program. I could have made the switch but I would have lost all of my current reward points. I need a little over 1000 points to get the $25 rewards check. After that, I am switching over to this program.

:)

1,000 points = $1,000 ?

On my current program, yes. I can't wait to get on the new program. Last night's tank of gas earned me 52 points. With the new program I would have earned 260 points.

I was wondering, im probobally not eligible to get this card because i have no credit, i was wondering which credit card would be a really good first card?

I have had a job since i was 16 im now 19 and i dont rent.

If you are in college, you can get a credit card easily. There are vendors on campus all the time. Otherwise, try your luck with your bank. MBNA and CapitalOne are big credit card issuers.

Soliex,

You really have two options:

1) I would recommend this Chase Cash Plus Rewards credit card if you can get a co-signer (parent, brother/sister, significant other, neighbor, anyone).

2) Otherwise save up $500 cash and apply for a secured credit card at your local bank. You have a very good chance of being approved. After 1 year apply for a regular unsecured credit card and you'll probably be approved.

:2welcome: to the forums :)

i think i will open up a new card, once my 0% is up on my bank of america card... come to think of it... i should find out when my 0% is up anyway..

so is the new chase card better than the perfect card?

my one big thing is i like to have no charge on balance xfers, since i usually buy things on my delta amex and xfer them over to another card w/ 0 apr and pay it off.
