ramonv
Desperately seeking a good deal on this camera. I bought one for my wife at Christmas time. It was $169, and that came with a printer. My son broke it today. Now, that same package is $399, and it is $299 for just the camera. A pink one is preferred, to match the printer, but color is not really important, and we don't need another printer, unless it can be found for less with the printer than w/o it. This camera has been replaced in Canon's line by a newer one that is apparently not as good (SD1200), so I do not want the newer model. I want the older, hard to find model. I do not want the A1100, either. My 17-year-old son will be paying for this, so we do want to find the best deal possible. Thank you!
Marcster
The Canon SD1100 IS was last year's model and was replaced with the SD1200 IS this year. I did some looking and the only SD1100 IS cameras that I can find are on Amazon for that $299 for just the camera. Other possibilities for you would be on eBay for a used or refurb SD1100 IS. However, Steve's Digicams gave the new SD1200 IS a glowing review, I'll cut to the chase and jump right to the conclusion: "As the successor to the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS, the SD1200 IS continues the quality and ease of use of the Digital ELPH series. This new ultra-compact digicam features an upgraded 10-Megapixel imaging sensor, Digic 4 image processor, Smart Auto and Intelligent-Contrast, as well as a slight reduction in size and weight. Other features have carried over, such as the 3x optical zoom with optical image stabilization, optical viewfinder and 2.5-inch PureColor II LCD screen, giving the camera a very familiar look and feel from past models. " And: "Bottom Line - The Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS is another great addition to the Digital ELPH line of cameras. As one of the smallest cameras with a wide variety of stylish colors, it is fun and easy to carry all the time. Despite its size, it's packed full of useful features. The combination of performance and quality make this an excellent camera for the family or as a small backup to a larger camera. With a MSRP of US$229.99, this is definitely an ultra-compact worth looking into."http://www.steves-digicams.com/2009_reviews/canon_sd1200is_conclusion.html
debbieshops2003
We just bought my son the SD1200 is for $183.20 ($229.00 - 20% anything that fits in the bag this week's sale through Saturday + tax) at Office Max. It is also $199.00 at Wal Mart. They have pink through Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001SER49C/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&m=A3ADWMNXT7FS32&s=photo $188.00 + 4.99 S+H. The pink is different though than the package you have. The 1100 is was a pretty soft pink. The new pink is a little brighter. Your wife might like it, but it won't match the printer you have. Hope you find a great deal. But my son's birthday was the 10th and we searched for weeks and couldn't find anything better. HTH
ramonv
Thank you, both. I have looked at more reviews, and maybe the 1200 will be ok. Trying to find something for less than I paid originally, though. I did find the pink 1100 (w/ another printer) for $199, but don't need another printer, and would rather not pay that much. But I guess I could ebay the printer... Well, the old camera still seems to work, so everything might be ok, after all. It is scratched, and I've ordered a new lens ring (it fell off), but I think it still works. Can probably wait for xmas deals, and maybe get the 1100 or 1200 for same or less than I paid last year.
