Marcster
Sony made an awful name for their Vaio laptops in terms of longevity. I realize that any laptop can have problems, but read through just a few of these:http://www.google.com/search?q=sony+vaio+problems

Marcster
Oh awful!! how about the others? If you don't need all of the capabilities of the Lenovo, then the Gateway should be just fine. A 14.1" screen vs. a 15.4" isn't too much of a perceivable difference screen-size wise, but the Gateway will probably weigh a pound less.
allshoppedout
Personally, I've found Lenovo to have better build quality and overall better longterm performance. Vaio's are bloated to high hell with spyware, and the low-end Gateway is pretty bottom-barrel as far as true laptops come. If you've got $650, go for the Lenovo. If not, the HP in the Best Buy thread actually has the best bang for the buck at $500 - it does include a slower processor, though. I'm not sure if you can overclock it, nor if you can get cask back on it, but it is a decent deal. Thanks for your response. In my home I have a wireless router thingy--and I have really high speed FIOS on my home PC will this help nudge the HP laptops speed at all ? Or is it "stuck" because of just how the processor is? KoopawnKode
The HP has a slower processor as compared to the Lenovo but it's faster than the Gateway or the Sony. It has an 800Mhz FSB where as the other two have 667Mhz FSB. **just thought I'd point that out** allshoppedout, for your needs, I don't see you needing to overclock anything. All of the laptops will work with your wireless router, it's just a matter of connecting to it. Fios won't help speed up the laptop itself, but rather your connection to the internet. (btw, I have FIOS too and love it :) ..way faster than my work speeds)
