Hardwood Flooring

Recommended Posts

For our new kitchen we used the solid oak 2 inch planks and it cost us about 1000 dollars for a 12 by 12 room. It was a pain to nail down, because it was liike putting a jigsaw puzzle together with lots of leftover little pieces. It came from Home Depot and was pretty reasonable. We did our dining room a few years ago and went with the 12 by 12 solid oak parquet tiles. They were wonderful. They look like lots of little strips put together and you can lay them in a design. They have a wire under them to make them flexible and they can be glued over an existing floor unlike the planks which have to have a new sublflooring. If you need to replace one it can be done easily. It was about .88 cents apiece and cost about 300 for the whole room and is still solid oak.they also came from Home Depot.

I would never go with laminate. It is just a picture glued on the floor and will wear off. Also it gives when you walk. I was in a house with laminate flooring and kept thinking i would fall through when i walked. It also is complicated to lay.

Wood laminate flooring varies in quality. Most is very easy to lay as it "floats" and locks together. The laminate quality and warranty are things to consider if one is in the market for laminate.

Use to hear a lot of commercials for lumber liquidators...not sure how their prices line up but another to consider.

We have wood laminate flooring. I bought it from Costco 5-6 years ago. Great warranty. I put it in my son's room as carpet was to girly for him and loved it so much we did the whole house in it. No issues so far. It has ruff treatment too with ds7, ds10, dh,3inside bulldogs,1 peken,1 african gray. Not hard to keep clean, no scratches and scuffs. Love it. Would do it again in a heart beat. Even have it in the kids bathroom with all the water. Not a problem for us. Dh would not go with real wood as to he was scared of the swelling with the dog and kid accidents. We bought a pack and threw a piece of it in the out door fishpond for a week with no swelling or peeling. Then DH beat on it with some metal tools with no marks or scratches. We then decieded it was tuff enough for our household. Since then my mom, Aunt and cousin have installed it in there house.

In our last house we also installed laminate. It was in our basement which was below grade wo we could not go with wood. We loved it. When we sold our house in 2006 the new owners loved it also. They have since put the same laminate in other areas of the house.

My boyfriend, my dad, and I just laid laminate flooring in our basement. It was so easy to lay. We put a moisture pad under the laminate. We got a 25 year warranty floor. It looks so nice and is easy to take care of. Our room is apprx. 200 sq feet and it cost with the underlayment around $450. There is no glue involved either. You just lock them together and they lock so tight there is no crack in between.

I am buying 700 square feet of 3/4" oak at Lowes tomorrow. I got several 20% off coupons to use at lowes on ebay as some other Gottadealers recommended. The coupons should get here tomorrow. We are putting the wood in our living and dining room. With the 20% off, it is going to be cheaper than LumberLiquidators. BUT, I am matching a color to the wood already in the foyer, so I can't just get any color that LL may have in odd lots at a real cheap price

We put in laminate wood flooring in our living room. The living room is 15x24 and DH layed it himself. It only took 1/2 a day and it was very easy. The flooring had a built in underlayment and we added a thin blue pad. It was very cost effective and we get compliments on it all the time. We found a local carpet store that sold hardwood flooring and they gave us a deal since it was left over from the previous year. Cheaper than lowes, sams club, and home depot. Since flooring stores are typically small businesses, they will probably be willing to give you a lower price than a national chain would.
