Lets talk about Wii and Wii fit!

Recommended Posts

OK, i've noticed quite a few threads showing them increasingly in stock...which begs the question...has nintendo finally started meeting the demand or does everyone (well at least the majority of everyone) have the wii already and therefore aren't looking anymore? Does this show the end of waiting in lines in the snow to score a wii or a wii fit this year? I'm so curious to know what everyone else thinks!:yup:

Whoops...thought i put this in deal discussion...sorry mods! please move me :)

I went shopping last weekend and I saw Wiis and Wii fits at Target and Toys R Us. Target only had 2, but Toys r Us had a LOT. I went back a few days later and everything was gone. I thought they were going to be pretty easy to find. My kids have the Wii. But a lot of my friends have been searching. I made some phone calls but they didn't think they'd sell out so fast. I think it just has to do with luck. A friend of mine last year around Christmas just picked his kids up, took them out to surprise them and buy them a Wii. He didn't look, didn't call, didn't know when the delivery was, just walked into Toys R Us and said he wanted a Wii and got one. He had NO idea they were even hard to find because it just worked out for him. If you aren't a person searching, you don't realize how hard they are to get. At least until there is word of the "next big thing" ready to hit the market. Then they'll be everywhere. I did pick up a Wii Fit and told my husband, here, your Christmas shopping is done. You can just wrap this up. :yup:

OK, this may be a very stupid question. With so many businesses struggling to even stay afloat, why would Nintendo deliberately not manufacture enough Wii's or Wii Fit? I don't get it. It doesn't drive the retail price up any higher. Last Christmas was horrible. I luckily found a Wii bundle at Costco in October. I also managed to find a Wii for my boss on Amazon the week before Christmas. They had been to numerous stores to stand in line in the wee hours of the morning. It still appears that the Wii's are flying out of the stores as quickly as they stock them in my area. The Wii Fit is next to impossible to find.

It's not that they "deliberately" manufactured so few of them. It's just the demand for them was greater than expected.

It was like this when the PS2 first came out. Also the N64 and the GameCube as well. But there are a number of systems that high price tags and few game choices equate to low sales.

Truly nintendo doesn't benefit in any way if there are shortages of Wii's or WiiFit's available. I'll admit that I have been able to get my hands on a few extra Wii's a couple years ago and made quite a nice profit off of them.

Wiis have been in stock on Amazon.com for about 3 weeks now. I think that is partly due to Amazon cracking down on the resellers and making more safeguards for the limit of 3 Wiis. Also demand in general has probably decreased since they have been out for a while and many people already have the Wii.

I dropped by GameStop, after going to Target to check for it (and a few other things) and they had several in stock! So, of course I got one and can't wait until Christmas to use it. I have heard of several people stopping in Gamestop stores and finding the Wii fit. ;)

That is how we found ours a couple months ago. We had a Sonic DS game on hold at GameStop and when we picked it up they had both new and used Wii Fits in stock. Since the used one was less than $10 cheaper, we got the new one. Just dumb luck!!

What exactly does the Wii Fit do? Is it fun for kids?

Wii Fit consists of a balance board (which is a pressure sensitive controller) and a fitness program.

The program can measure your weight and balance, calculate your BMI (body mass index) and track its progress. It uses various minigames that require a good sense of balance (the board detects weight shifts.) to teach you how to maintain good posture and balance. It also has yoga, strength and aerobic training sequences (some that use the Wiimote instead of the balance board.)

There have been some recent game program releases that also take advantage of the balance board's capabilities. Wii Music uses it with the Wiimote and Nunchuk to simulate a drum kit. Wii Ski, Shaun White's Snowboarding, and Jillian Michaels Ultimate Fitness 2009 also use it as the main controller.

My 12 year old daughter has enjoyed it.
