ally&tommysmom
I ran across this new version of Tag and $25 coupon (scroll down for code) and thought I would post it here. When reading the reviews about the Tag system, the only complaint I kept hearing about was that the Tag only holds about 5 books at a time.Leapfrog came out with a new version called Tag School Reading System and it can hold up to 25 books (if you listen to the demo on the website it states it will hold 15-20, but i know someone who got 25 books plus one set of Tag cards on it. Some books are 1.8MB and others are 2.5MB, the cards are 1, i believe, so it will depend on how many MB the books that you put on it are. I believe it has 60MB of available memory as opposed to the regular Tag that has 16MB. The retail price is $70 and includes Headphones, but imo, it's worth it when the regular Tag's retail price is $50.It comes with:Tag Reader1 Ozzie & Mack Book1 set of compatable headphonesUSB CableInstaller CD It has to be purchased from Leapfrogschoolhouse.com (not Leapfrog.com). Then the other thing is that if you spend $100, you can use code S25D8 to get $25 off and free shipping (which shows up on confirmation page). Here's the link:http://store.leapfrogschoolhouse.com/SchoolHouse/Store/BrowseProducts/ListAllProducts/PRD_TSRK/Tag153+School+Reader+Kits.jsp?bmLocale=en_USThey can be purchased as a single system, 4pk, or 8pk. They also sell the books in 5pks. I ended up buying one Tag and one set of 5 books for $110 after the coupon and free shipping. Not too bad! One thing i will mention is that you need to be a new customer to use the code. I have a different email address that was not registered with Leapfrog, so I had no problems registering. It also does not require you to be a school administrator or teacher. You can select the option of "parent" or "homeschool" to purchase from Leapfrogschoolhouse.com. Hope someone can use this info! noehlp
Wow Ally&Tommysmom! Great Find. Love all the detail you put into your deal too! :)
ally&tommysmom
thanks :) I had to return the favor. I don't post much, but I come here all the time. I usually don't have much to contribute, but when I saw this I figured anyone who is looking for a Tag, but disappointed in the lack of memory would be interested. I don't have mine yet, but when I get it I will post and let you all know how it seems to work. I'm excited that it's not to much more money! And with the $25 off, it's probably about the same as you could get the regular one for. You just have to find something else to buy to equal up to $100. It's funny you mention the detail I wrote - i actually thought that i might be inundating everyone with too much info, but I didn't know if people had ever heard of this new version so i figured i would include everything I know about it. :)

cokemeyer
thanks so much for this info - I was just considering this for my boys... do you know if the regular Tag books sold at stores will work on this version? thanks!
ally&tommysmom
Hi! Sorry i wasn't around this weekend to answer your question. I was told that the regular books sold in stores WILL work on this version. There's supposedly no difference between the books you see on this website and in stores - it's just that they are bundling them together to sell them as package deals, since schools often like a library of books to choose from. Also, they offer a package of books for older kids online that are not available in stores. But yes, from what i was told, any of the ones you see in stores (olivia, diego, dora, little engine that could, etc.) are all supposed to work just the same as the ones on the website. knreich
Thanks! My sister and I were talking about this for her kids and since she is also a teacher I think she will like this option a lot better.
ally&tommysmom
For those who were interested in more info, I emailed leapfrog and asked for information comparing the two products and she sent me a word file. It won't format right to cut/paste here, but if you want me to email it to you I would be happy to do so. (or if there's a way to copy and paste it, if someone could tell me i would be happy to do so. It's in columns and just won't paste the way it's written so instead of important points of both versions being listed seperately, it's all jumbled together.) zansmyman
I wonder what the difference is between the LeapFrog Connect consumer and school application is????
ally&tommysmom
It sounds to me like the difference is that you have access to downloading more titles with the Tag School and School Connect Application software. It says that the software for Tag school application will download all consumer and school titles, whereas the software for the Tag consumer application will download only consumer titles. Both products come with whatever software is needed, but it looks like the consumer version is only compatible with the Consumer Connect , but if you ever decide you want one of those school-only products, and you purchase Tag Consumer, you won't have a way to download it since you won't have the School Connect Application. Some books that are not available for Tag Consumer are Arthur Writes A Story, Why Rabbit's Nose Twitches, Prince of the Air, Honey Saves The Day, Simon the Ace Detective: missing mice, and Simon the Ace Detective: missing pail. Plus 6 Bi-lingual stories. I imagine they will be adding more for Tag School, just as they will add more for Tag Consumer. Also, in 2009 the school application will allow you to go online and monitor your student (or child's) progress. It looks like there will be an update for your application. http://www.leapfrogschool.com/do/findpage?pageKey=tag_application
zansmyman
Thank you so much for all the info! I think that I am going to get this for my DD's birthday!
cokemeyer
You are so right about this deal - with the coupon which still works as of today, you really are actually paying LESS than you would in-store for the regular TAG reader + 5 books. It really seems like a great idea to have more memory - I know I do not want be the one who hears "Mommy! I want a different book on here!" whine every other day or so! :) Thanks again OP!!! thepiedpiper
Does anyone know if the Tag School Reading System is still available anywhere for INDIVIDUAL purchase? I went to the Leapfrog School website and you can only purchase reading kits with 4 or 8 Tags for $275 or $525??? Am I missing something? I realize all the previous posts were from Oct of last year. So does that mean that I can't buy just one now?? I'd also rather not have to deal with downloading/erasing books all day long. So I'd rather get this one. Ugh. Any info would be helpful!
