Venusaur Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 I want to buy a laptop with Windows Vista and then downgrade to Windows XP. Is it possible to do that for free? If not where can I get Windows XP for cheap. Amazon has it for $200
freesia39 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 It really depends on the manufacturer. Lenovo I believe lets you still add in XP, but I believe it is XP Pro. (pro isn't that bad, use it over home.) The cheapest I've seen XP is for 99.00, but that was when you bought a new motherboard/CPU combination at Fry's, and it's OEM. Usually OEM means it doesn't come with a manual, and it's meant to be purchased along with other parts. http://shop1.frys.com/product/4978861;jsessionid=lXobyaLTpO2at+dY2ETR4A**.node1?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
elena_398 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 My husband and I got a new sealed Windows XP from ebay for under $75. I would check there. Make sure its a seller with good feedback though
Venusaur Posted June 25, 2008 Author Posted June 25, 2008 I just figured home edition would be cheaper than pro, but if pro turns out to be cheaper that's great! I may have to try ebay, thanks!
elena_398 Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 home edition is cheaper. thats what we got. Pretty soon you may just be able to get it on ebay as they are stopping production of Windows XP soon.
