Is the Sonicare really that good?

Recommended Posts

My local drug store has the Sonicare e5300 on sale for $29.99. I'm considering buying it, but is the brush really that great? Most of the reviews I've read like this one seem overly optimistic. Is there anyone here who owns a Sonicare who can give me actual feedback about what the brush is like before I buy it?

I have the Oral B Sonic that runs about 19.99 in most stores...there are 3 variations in the brush size.

Last time I went to the dentist, they asked what toothbrush I used cuz they were so impressed. Less crap on the teeth which is new for me. The dentist was happy to hear which brush I used cuz they recommend it and hoped that it worked well.

I have this one...here is a coupon for it:

It's really that good. I had one for a year, my house burnt down and I replaced it with the oral B one, because I was too cheap to buy another sonicare. Used the oral b one for a year before I broke down and picked up another sonicare.

I love my sonicare.

I say DO IT. My hygienist was THRILLED when I got one! No cavities since.

It takes a little while to get used to it... since it feels different, but my teeth don't feel clean without it any more.. .

OK, I am a dental hygienist....:) 20 yrs.

The only issue I have with Sonicare is that the brush heads are too large for the majority of the population. Most folks have trouble getting to the molars (back teeth) which you can have trouble doing if your toothbrush (any type) is too large. Oral-B has smaller brush heads. Sonicare does take some getting used to. It really does vibrate a lot.

OTOH, $30 for a sonicare is an excellent deal.

The fact is that people who use almost any electric toothbrush will brush longer, remove more plaque/food debris, and have a better checkup at their dentist that those that use a manual brush. My patients prove this research out. Can you do the job with a regular ol' brush? Sure, you just have to work at it more. Also, an electric brush does NOT replace flossing daily!! You also have to replace the brush heads on electric brushes every 3 months (or if you are sick with cold/flu/strep) same as with replacing a regular toothbrush.

I love my Sonicare. My teeth feel so clean after I brush them.

:yup:

As the hygienist above stated, apparently the back teeth are harder to get, as I was personally told that my top back teeth had gum issues--and she stated she didn't think I was brushing good enough back there---and I do brush, but I do have a small mouth, so maybe it is too big to get back there good enough. Other than that, I really like the Sonicare. Dh and I both use it.

I will never be without one now. I really thought it was silly to have a toothbrush that was so pricey, but since BzzAgent gave it to me free I said what the heck. lol My oh my was I pleased. I loved the feature that works up to full speed on it over a 2 week period. If you use that you will get used to it easier.

The first time I used it I was amazed. It made my teeth feel like I had just been to have a cleaning. Now mind you I brush like crazy with a regular brush and floss too and had never had them feel like that. Mine also has a massaging cycle on it too which helps with your gums.

I am probably a weirdo, but I have to turn mine back on after the 2 minute cycle is over because I am not done yet. lol Mind you I have never enjoyed brushing my teeth till I got the my first sonicare a few years ago (with the first Sonicare BzzBlast).

mine is an older stlye, not sure what number, but I know it's called sonic care elite and beeps at 15 second intervals to tell you to change to another area, but my toothbruch heads are not too big, they are much smaller than a regular toothbrush. Or heck, maybe my head is too big and I just don;t notice. The only thing is don't try to use a sonic care in the middle of a migraine, it makes you feel like you just put your head in a blender, oh on high then pulsate.

I have the e5300 and love it! I got it because my dentist recommended it. I hated it at first but on his advice used it for 2 weeks. After using it I got used to it and liked it. Now when I occasionally use a regular toothbrush I feel as if my teeth aren't clean. $29.99 is an awesome price and I would be going and buying another one or two if the drugstore was near me!
