jpholic
My wife and I scored 2 of the Sony laptops yesterday morning. It has the 1 GB (2 512MB sticks of PC2-4200 ram). I was wondering if I could go back with PC2-5300 ram? It's only upgradeable to 2 GB, do you guys think it'll be worth it?
bpr
PC2-5300 is backwards compatible. It should not be a problem. If the laptop does not support 5300 (667mhz), then it will run at the 4200 speed.

hwunch
When I opened it up the ram was 5300. But the BB site says it uses 4200. I am going with what is in there when I upgrade. Has anyone just gone to 1.5? How did that work? TIA

My cost out of pocket a big fat 0.. Serves them right for not having our TV
Fireflyfrommi
I also bought one of the Sonys for $399. I looked for some specs on the Best Buy website and it says that it should come with a wireless mouse. Did anyone get a mouse included with their Sony laptop? Dork42775
If you did not get charged for the installation you might have a voided warranty. You need to check for it on your receipt because if you upgrade the ram yourself the warranty is no good.
Fireflyfrommi
We've upgraded ram in our laptops on out own and still gotten them serviced under warranty. Just got one back from getting fixed, no problems at all.

nirvana4all
Ram upgrades no longer void warranties like they did years ago, it is now an expected practice.
