mcmc Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=675633 Now you all may ask what does that have to do with anything well what it means is that Wisconsin can now sell below cost and shoppers in Wisconsin can now enjoy the same black friday prices has all the other states!!!! Yes!!!!
jillstenson Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Not so fast. That article is from October 16th. If you read it, it says that "overturning the law will be difficult". This is not something that will happen overnight. I wish it would, because I would have loved a $98 HD DVD player yesterday!
mcmc Posted November 5, 2007 Author Posted November 5, 2007 at our store in Wisconsin it was $98 and the tv was $988 we had the prices the same has all over the country. Perhaps your store didn't read their email.
thomas998 Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 I live in Oklahoma with more of the anti-sale price laws... Last year the prices were way higher here than in other states... So when I heard about the pre-black friday sales at walmart I thought wow... a 98.87 for a HD DVD, I wondered what they will be selling them for in my store... So I went after work quite certain they would still be there since the price would surely be closer to 200... Imgane my surprise when they shelf is full of them and they are all priced at 98.87... Now fast forward to Sunday and I am in a different walmart... here I find s rack full of them for the even lower price of 98.00 (I'm p*&$ed off now because I paid 87 cents more than I could have if I had waited).... Now the 50 inch plasma was not under 1000 as it was in other states it was almost 1300.... so I'm not sure whats going on but it appears in Oklahoma that Walmart is not actually following the letter of the law as normal.
jillstenson Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 All three of the Walmarts in my area sold the DVD player for $185. One said they had received an email from their corporate office less than half an hour before the sale started, informing them that in Wisconsin, the price would be $185, not $98, on the flier they had received earlier.
RaineeDay1 Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 its great if WI can finally get in on the deals
mcmc Posted November 5, 2007 Author Posted November 5, 2007 our store got emails saying to sell at the same price as everyone else.
mrn8 Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Good news. :) Maybe this is a sign that a lot of odd "Doyle laws" will start to get exposed for what they really are. The minimum markup has been puzzling for a long time.
jillstenson Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 I am by no means a fan of Doyle, but this is not a law he instituted. This law has been on the books since 1939.
zgamer Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Friday - HD-DVD player was more expensive Saturday HD-DVD player was $99 How did this happen? The same way they could have for years but never did, stockpile an item and then mark it as clearance which is a loophole for the state's law about selling items without a minimum markup.
mcmc Posted November 10, 2007 Author Posted November 10, 2007 merchandizers are lowering the prices this year not the store there for the price is the cost and therefor all states will have the same prices this year on all sales.......Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Hawaii and all other ones. yippee!!! Heard it on the news on Fox. also heard it at work....
jillstenson Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Woohoo, now we don't have to feel like we are on the outside looking in, with our overinflated prices! Now, if the gas stations would sell their gas below cost......
cheyandwysmom Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I just spoke with the manager of our Wal-mart yesterday - we are on the WI/MN border and my question was regarding price-matching. He told me that they were able to do price matching for all local stores except the stores in Minnesota, right across the bridge. According to him, the "minimum mark-up" law is still in effect, and they can't match MN prices as they would be selling below their cost. So at least for now, I guess we're still on the outs.
mcmc Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 no he or you do not understand the items for blitz and the sales are coming in at the price the ad will say. the merchandizer lets say Hp they are taking the mark down not wal-mart therefor the cost thing does not even come into effect at all because the cost is what the item comes in as. I am referring to blitz and sales items only I have no idea about matching other ads. The reason the other week the secret things were able to be sold at the same price as all other states was because the merchandiser is sending them to the companies at that price there that is the cost.
cheyandwysmom Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I understand what you're saying, but I don't know if that's what's happening or not. Since he was the store manager, I can only assume he knew what he was talking about in relation to what price he could sell his items for. This was for price matching purposes across state lines. It could be that there is a different cost ratio for manufacturer/retailer relationships in other states that are set at a lower rate than Wisconsin's retailers. Either way, the Wal-mart (in Onalaska, WI) won't be matching MN prices this BF.
mcmc Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 ok as far as price matching goes we can only price match with store within say 50 miles. Like I live in Platteville and we can not price match Madison Wisconsin which is over 100 miles but last year anyway we were able to price match Dubuque Iowa which is under 50 miles away.
alces Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I just read an article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel from Sunday (I know, almost a week old....) about the mark up law and how it will affect prices. Wal-Mart said, tehy will have a different ad for WI with other prices. They also mentioned some other stores that won't differentiate, and some that did not comment. Can't post the link, but go on jsonline dot com and search for article "State shoppers must pay more" (id 684773).
mcmc Posted November 17, 2007 Author Posted November 17, 2007 that article is wrong peeps. My assistant manager just told me last night that he has seen the transcripts from the conference call and that Wisconsin gets to use the National ad we will have the same prices as everyone else. The merchandisers took the price down before they sold the items to the stores. That lower price is then the cost. Yipee!!! We get to be normal this year!!!! I think Oklahoma, Utah, Maine and Hawaii should be the same all should have the national ad.
