fotoman1
On a 50 inch dlp tv, can you really see the difference between 720 and 1080? $949.00 50 inch TV at circuit city is very tempting. Thanks Jim

Marcster
At 50", the 1080i or 1080p will appear sharper than the 720: High-definition (HD) video generally refers to any video system of higher resolution than standard-definition (SD) video, most commonly at display resolutions of 1280x720 (720p) or 1920x1080 (1080i or 1080p).http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_video
Mikser
Most cable and Sat. companies are only broadcasting in 720 so the 1080 will be no better thab a 720. Go to a store and look at a 720 and 1080 and see if you can see a difference. Also fast action and sports are better on 720, on 1080 they sometimes freeze and pixelate(not sure if that is correct term or not). If it is a big deal to you and you are willing to spend extra money I would find out what you cable company is broadcasting in before you spend the extra money. I would go with the 720. DaveL
While a lot of cable co's aren't broadcasting in 1080p (yet), the noticeable difference comes into play with a bluray or HD DVD movie. On a 42" or smaller screen, it will not make a difference but it definitely will on a 50" screen. Best thing to do is to go to the store and compare them yourself. Check out Sears as well right now because they are running a very good sale on their TV's with rebates if you use your Sears card.
