setlok73 Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Okay, We all know that the price matching on BF goes right out the window and doesn't apply. However, I just received a new MasterCard and it has Price Protection Coverage. States that if the identical item is advertised for less within 60 days of purchase they will reimburse. I have to send in a copy of the ad and the receipt and a claim form but does anyone know if this applies on BF? I have looked at the fine print and can not find anything that specifies that it wouldn't work. Any thoughts? Could there possibly be a loophole??
Rebirth Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 The BF prices are usually the better prices after 60 days anyway.
setlok73 Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 You're right but what I'm thinking is...if we see the ads in advance and MasterCard will reimburse...then go ahead and buy before BF and let MC just give me the difference. That's what I'm trying to figure out.

AndreaInNC Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 It depends on what you are buying. For instance BestBuy will only stock their doorbusters on BF. If you went into the store on Wednesday, you wouldn't find the doorbuster item on the sales floor. So if you were thinking about a computer or laptop that would be a doorbuster, you won't be able to buy it before BF.
Rugar Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 It's an interesting thought.... I need to look up the info on my MC and see what I can figure out as well. Update: I looked up the Citi "Additional Disclosures" for my Citi MC. In addition to the $250/item, $1000/year limits it looks as if this is the clause they would use against you if they felt like being difficult: "Items advertised in or as a result of “limited quantity”, “going out-of-business sales”, “cash only” or “close out” advertisements, items shown on price lists or price quotes, cost savings as a result of manufacturer’s coupons or free items, or where the advertised price includes bonus or free offers, special financing, installation or rebate, or one of a kind or other limited offers." Almost all BF items are listed as limited quantity, so I image that this is where they will get you. If you get the adscan early enough and can see that it is clearly NOT listed as limited quantity and not a special SKU, this might work.
happyrat Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 That might work, but the big items will most likely be pulled out of the shelves for BF.Yes, but if you have 60 days, and get the ad early enough and they sell that product everyday, you might can buy it before the realize they need to pull it.
jarerice Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Good thinking!!!! I thinks it's worth a try!!!! I would call them just to be sure!
Rebirth Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Yes, but if you have 60 days, and get the ad early enough and they sell that product everyday, you might can buy it before the realize they need to pull it.Thing is you don't have 60 days. I'm pretty sure anything on the first page wouldn't be seen in the store from now until BF.
H_Hancock Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Thing is you don't have 60 days. I'm pretty sure anything on the first page wouldn't be seen in the store from now until BF.And that's pretty much the way it works. The doorbusters typically are SKU'd differently than what is being sold at present in whatever store you care to consider. Take all the laptops sold over the last few years in any of these stores. Almost without exception, the laptop wasn't part of the store's normal stock, or if it was, as one laptop was at Wal-Mart, it won't be stocked normally until after BF. With the laptops the last few years, the doorbuster lappies weren't even listed on the websites of the particular manufacturer until just a few days before BF. Now, the price guarantee could work for items like hard drives, printers, toys, etc., that are just marked down from normal pricing. But for the doorbusters, you'll have a hard road to hoe to get the price guarantee to work.
jaymacfla Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 The $200 Westinghouse monitors were there. They had some in stock. It depends upon the store and detective work in the weeks prior to BF.
