I am looking for a cheap cell phone that doesn't require a contract.

I have service I just want to change out my phone. I will be using my sim card in the new phone.

So I can't use my sim card in an un-locked phone that I bought off e-bay or somewhere?

You can if the other company uses the same technology. Cingular can use unlocked T-Mobile phones and vice versa.

Use the phonescoop's search engine to see what might be compatible:

http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/finder.php

Remember to look at the technology the phone uses, if you have Cingular or T-Mobile, you'll want a phone with GSM850 / GSM1900 at the very least.

Some phones come tri-band, and most Motorolas for Cing or T-Mo are quad-band, but it won't matter, a Cingular or T-Mo customer will only be using the GSM850 / GSM1900 bands anyway. The other bands are for other countries.

If you want me to double-check before you buy something, just drop me a PM with the details. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileys/10.gif

I posted in your other thread, but if you go to ebay you can search by cingular phones so that you can get one that will work with your sim.
