Guest waggy Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 Ok so far this has been a really bad week! wish this year would really get over. My dryer died! i had someone come over to look at it and they said it would be $150 to fix it. bah! So i need a new dryer. right now we have electric (though we use propane gas). So i need a good cheap dryer. We do not need one with a bunch of settings. the one we had now that has a bunch of stuff. WE just set the time dry and wait. No delicate no nothing. just basic dry. Since i have NO idea what brands are good or bad figured i would ask you guys. so thanks!
Pliablemoose Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 Sears always seems to have a deal going on dryers... YGPM (in a second)
Keebelf Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 Not really a suggestion for a dryer, but, check to see if you have a Sears Scratch and Dent store in your area. When we needed to get a new washer, we went there and got a washer and dryer for really cheap.
biomajor Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 That's what we did too-and the fridge too--well actually just the washer and the fridge, the dryer we got at sears at a discount because it was a floor model. It was only $349 and it's the Maytag Neptune dryer. The washer at the Sears Outlet was only $599. I got both pieces for less than the normal price of just the washer--in the bisque color :-)
elena_398 Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 I bought all my appliances at Sears. Free delivery (mail in rebate but comes quickly) and great service. Not complaint yet! When we bought our house we got all new. Bisque color and love them. I got bought Kenmore appliances.
Pliablemoose Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 This is perhaps the least ethical thing I've ever heard from a salesperson, but I'll post it, just because it really happened... Wife & I were looking @ the newest, fanciest washer & dryer set @ Sears & I was bemoaning that there weren't any returned ones @ a discount... The salesman tells me to have my inlaws buy a set & return them during the grace period for full credit & then us buy them as returns We didn't do what he suggested, but it was really strange to hear him mention it.
hpowers Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 In the regular Sears stores they usually have a back room with the scratch and dent and returned models. Ask an associate and they will usually help you out.
elena_398 Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 When we got our refridgerator, they didn't have the model that was advertised and they jumped two models up for us. The guy new we would pay cash on the spot so he bypassed the next model up and gave us the top of the line Kenmore for the one advertised. Heck of a deal and saved us over $250. Thats how you get return customers!

Guest waggy Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 called 3 diffrent sears store's NONE of them had any. sigh even called Lowe's and menards. Lowe's said he just sold the one they had the other day. Back to looking!
Guest waggy Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 Have you check with Best Buy ? well the best buy in town is really small with no appliances. all it really is a TV/computer hub. They have a small music/Playstation area but its really small. I was hopeing that it would last until summer when i can hit auctions and garage sales. heh but it seems when something goes wrong it is at a bad time heh.
kimichelle Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 Did the repair guy say what was wrong with yours? Dryers can be really easy to fix. My mom (who is not very mechanically inclined) changed the belt and the heating element on hers before the motor went out and she finally bought a new one.

But to be honest i don't remember. I got on a appliance repair board and have gotten little advice. I would prefer to fix it myself but since i have no idea what is wrong (the paperwork does not say) i don't wanna poke in it. Besides that the dryer is a good one. Has a bunch of setting i never use! heh
Guest Luckycharm Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 Waggy, did a local search using the city, state under your name.....go to HOME DEPOT!Says they have a dryer for around $240. Link
Pliablemoose Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 Troubleshoot your clothes dryer & they have parts. They're like a million times simpler than PC's...
