jerseygurl Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 With all the new laptops and pcs for Christmas, does anyone know of any current deals on virus protection? I will need protection for like 4 laptops, is there a family program I can buy or do I have to buy each one?
tdanette Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I use the free version of AVG. Auto updates and everything, works great but it is a no frills virus protection. (But hey- it's free! ) http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
mystikal1 Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 I use the free version of AVG. Auto updates and everything, works great but it is a no frills virus protection. (But hey- it's free! ) http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1What are you gooing to do when avg stops being free in Jan?
shawn130c Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Currently the latest version of AVG Free is 7.5. AVG Free 7.1 (old version) is the one that will be discontinued in January.
AirForceMom Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 I too use AVG for free at the advice of my son who works with computers for a living. A couple other good things he has me using (for free of course) are Spybot search and destroy and Ad-aware SE. Never gave them too much thought until he was on my computer and said 'hey mom, that cool screensaver you downloaded for free? well you'll never believe the information it is recording about you!"
RossMAN Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Free - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 Commercial - Norton AntiVirus 2007 3 user license for $9.99 AR with free shipping
jerseygurl Posted December 19, 2006 Author Posted December 19, 2006 WOW thanks everyone! You just made my Christmas a little merrier! :holiday16 I will put all this good advice to use. Merry Christmas!
Cwilliams Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 I would not suggest anyone use Norton or Macafee They are so proccess hungry its not even funny and good luck removing them. It may look like there gone when you uninstall but trust me they are not. The best paid program I have ever found is PC Cillin antivirus from best buy. 39.99 and comes with 3 licenses. You can purchase another license online for like 7.99.
threelittlecupcakes Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Too late, have been using Norton for years here. I haven't had a problem with them, but with the way people talk so badly about it makes me wonder if I should be switching. My subscription is up the end of the month - use the pc for home and business. Anyone else care to chime in?
Gurnee Al Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I've used Norton for years, but after reading comments on AVG and playing around with it a little bit, I wouldn't hesitate to give it a shot. I just bought Norton AV 2007 a month ago, so I'm good with them for a while longer.
Rog Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 AVG is a great way to go. My new laptop just came in with Norton installed on it and I removed it and replaced with AVG. I have been running it on our pc's for quite awhile. No problems with it at all. I also thought that they were discontinuing the free version, kept getting pop ups about it running out. But when I took the time to read about it, it was only the version I had. I downloaded the newest version about a month ago, and it has been fine.
