Sign up for their discount/loyalty card and make sure you provide your email address. Last month I got a $5 off $15+ purchase in store. Cat food was on sale and I used the coupon so cat food that usually cost about $26 was only about $18. Most of the emails I get are for online orders, but every once in a while I get an in-store discount.

I got an advertisement of Petsmart bucks promo they are starting. Spend $30 and earn $1 up to $5. Doesn't seem all that great, but its something. I usually shop there so anything helps.

look at paypal.com specials. I don't remember what the specials were but petsmart was one of the places that were offering specials if you paid with paypal.

I don't know about Petsmart, but Petco had some clearance stuff a few weeks ago...random stuff like outdoor mats with pictures of dogs and cats on them, stickers, magnets...it was mainly picked over when I was there...oh, and their Halloween stuff was 75% off...they should mark their Christmas dog and cat toys/treats down to 75% not long after Christmas..seems like they don't waste time trying to get rid of the seasonal stuff.
