How to keep pets from chewing decorations.

When we still had our cat we couldn't put any ornaments on the bottom 2 rows of branches on the Christmas tree as she liked to bat them around. Everyone use to tell us we forgot to finish decorating the tree. She also liked to climb up the trunk and lie on the branches in the middle of the tree.

Using a play pen or some sort of gate around the tree helps. My yellow lab is 5 now, but when she was your puppy's age, she did the same thing. I used a circular gate. This year we have a new furbaby in the house and she is 10 months old (a Rat Terrier). Im going to try not to use the gate, but one never knows. Shes not a chewer so we'll see. Im already not going to use the tinsle I bought last year as its a choking hazard to dogs.

Welcome to the world of having a Lab! LOL

Last year I got my husband a Lab for Christmas and he kept eating the bows off my tree. Didn't take anything else off the tree but the red bows. Guess the bright red was inviting to him. LOL

My yellow lab was bad the first year we got her. (we got her at 10 weeks old). She chewed up 3 pairs of my shoes (only mine) and countless cords. She was a major chewer. Shes 5 now, but I don't think she grew out of that till she was 1yr old or so.

I would recommend getting a baby gate system like this, although I would check craigslist or local baby consignment shops first you might get one cheaper.

This gate is what I bought when my lab was a puppy. It was great. Recommend the circular gate for anyone wanting to protect their tree.

i always spray my cat with a water bottle, not towards anything electrical of course, I am wondering how to keep my 11 month old away from it without having to buy a fence
