SCMom Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 I just found out that South Carolina will suspend its state sales tax for Nov. 24 & 25. So on top of the already great savings we won't have to pay state sales tax. You still have to pay any local sales tax but that is only 1% to 1.5%. I might have to go get a laptop afterall. Sharon
DrumBumsMum Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Thanks for that bit of info. I'll have to let my niece know, she just moved to Columbia and will be alone for BF
kamandjaw Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 BF is getting better by the minute!!! I can't wait to shop all day long. I will actually have some money this year. Where are you in SC??

Bestbuy7 Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 No sales tax on everything? Here in NY we only get no sale tax on clothing.
noehlp Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 WOWSER! Hey SCMom, when you get more detail on this would you mind coming back and posting it here in this thread. (ie. a news article, etc) This will help clear up any questions folks have. Hmmmm..... Would driving 14 hours from Iowa to SC just for the no sales tax be worth it????
elena_398 Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 must be nice. Ohio never does anything like that
sigrist_2000 Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 must be nice. Ohio never does anything like thatThey were talking about it earlier this year about having a free sales tax day...but havent heard whether they will or not...but yeah i do agree with you...they prolly wont.
vonnyb Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 wow you guys are lucky. We got tax free shopping on clothes and school supplies around back to school time. But nothing like this.
love2beurwifey Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 I am thinking about driving there could driving 5 hours be worth it ? I guess it all depends on how much gas is at that time
kamandjaw Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 I am from the upstate of South Carolina. If you go to www.sctax.org and look under what's new and it will tell you all about it.
SCMom Posted October 4, 2006 Author Posted October 4, 2006 I found some more info. Go to www.sctax.org. Scan down the page about halfway. It is the second item under the what's new stories. This should help answer any questions.
SCMom Posted October 4, 2006 Author Posted October 4, 2006 Wow Kamandjaw! We must have been posting at the same time.
kboyts Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 must be nice. Ohio never does anything like thatwell on a related note, Ohio just gave tax cut on witholding tax. Not as good but its better than nothing.
JCBeBe31 Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Wow. That's awesome. I wonder if I can convince my brother that he doesn't want to come home from college for Thanksgiving and that we'll make a trip down to our house there for BF? Haha. Now, if PS3 was out by that time, I think he'd stay just to avoid the sales tax on that!
stationchief Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Good news for those in S.C. Too bad Arizona doesn't do anythin' like that. Just so 'ya know, that a big savings off of a new laptop ot an HDTV. Might be worth the travel for those of 'ya in nearby bordering states, depending on what'cha plan on gettin'.
blondinkaya Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 I'm in SC, too (not too far from Columbia), and am looking forward to this BF even more now! Thanks for the heads up!
sevirj Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 We have a tax-free weekend before school starts on school supplies, computer items, & clothes. The only things is, some of the schools do not send out their "this is what your kid needs this year for school" lists until after the tax-free weekend
g-man430 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 This is great news seeing how I live in Greenville, which is in the upstate region of South Carolina.
sweethonee97 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 I found out about this about 5 weeks ago! Isn't great! I am in Charleston and cant wait to hit the stores on Black Friday!
g-man430 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Here is what sucks about where I live- Greenville County: Population: 407,000 Number of Best Buys: 1 Anderson County: Population: somewhere over 100,000 Number of Best Buys: 1 What's wrong with that picture. It's pretty obvious which Best Buy is going to be more crowded. The sad part is that Greenville has 2 Circuit City's and 5-10 Walmarts, but only 1 Best Buy. I wonder why that is? I sure hope they build a new Best Buy soon here, because it is definitely needed. This is why i'm either going to Walmart or the Best Buy in Anderson this year, depending on which one has the best sales. Most likely Walmart will though, because they have that price match guarantee thing.
g-man430 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Here is the pdf file about the S.C. tax on Black Friday weekend. Man, i'm glad I live in this state: http://www.sctax.org/NR/rdonlyres/DBBF1F33-078E-47EF-B198-7B5DCEB155A5/0/RR067.pdf
g-man430 Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Top story in the Greenville News: http://www.greenvilleonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061103/LINK/611030363 http://www.greenvilleonline.com
L239x Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I screamed and jumped for joy after reading this thread topic. Yeah!!! I will be in Myrtle Beach SC this Black Friday

I dont think I would wanna be in either store on BF. Thank god I live in a smaller town.
daworths8 Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 We have a tax-free weekend before school starts on school supplies, computer items, & clothes. The only things is, some of the schools do not send out their "this is what your kid needs this year for school" lists until after the tax-free weekend I would Def bring that up to the attention of the school board and demand some action, thats just not cool at all.
