Beachhead Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 The Power of the Black Friday crowd must have scared them away
shanni Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I myself don't use layaway, unless I'm trying to hide something. I live in a poor community with alot of elderly and disabled people, layaway was their only means of xmas shopping, and back to school. It's ashame they are closing them all.
bayhaysay Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I haven't put anything on layaway in a long time but this makes me want to for some reason. :)
sigrist_2000 Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I think this is going to hurt them majorly...IMHO (in my Humble Opinion). It wont affect me too much as i use credit anyway...but so many people use that system and that is one reason why they buy so much stuff...i see this as a way for Kmart to boost sales...
arieslove Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I use layaway all the time, but that's just to hide things from my kids and dh. They are all too nosey. I agree this will hurt them in the long run.
Tessangel Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I am so pissed. I was counting on layaway this year due to just moving and lack of funds. I guess I will be at Kmart this year. I really think this is a BAD move on walmart's part. I think they will see this in the long run.
sky_scraper123 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 That really is a bad deal, I use lay away often
sherril Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I use layaway every BF this totally screws me! I have been more of a Target shopper lately and this might just be the blow that pushes me all the way to Target. I think they may change their minds next year after they see how much it hurts them this year.
amber020682 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I'm with all of you on that... I agree it will hurt their sales.. I know of many who couldn't afford the holidays in any other way. I told my mom this and she was upset. I'm anxious to see if they REALLY follow thru with it. Let's see what happens. I'm sure they will get MANY complains. we should start a petition!! hehe :)
jadedmomof2 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I did put stuff on layaway today, mostly because I actually had the time to do it, and there were a few things I wanted to get, but I didn't bring enough cash with me(I was only going to buy SW Lego's). Not a word was mentioned about the new policy, although I heard a few employee's talking about AFLAC, and how my store was going to start offering it.
jeninpa Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I just spoke to a girl in LAW at our Walmart and she said she heard rumors but as far as she knew they were getting ready for Christmas LAW's. Did anyone catch that website mention in the article? I just had to check it out and it was pretty interesting, lol. http://wakeupwalmart.com/
fulfam Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I read the article and the article said that they were going to stop accepting them as of November I don't think it gave a specific date though. I see them bringing back seasonal layaway at least.
EliteABombAZ Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 http://www.petitiononline.com/layaways/petition.html
hopeky94 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 It's true-- check out walmartfacts DOT com then watch for "Wal-Mart Will Phase Out Layaway Program" on the changing headline at the top (a link to the article about this). This website is directly linked from Wal-Mart's corporate website, plus the contact info on this site is the same as Wal-Mart's, so I'm pretty sure this is legit!
elena_398 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 That was on the news today. I called my walmart and they service desk confirmed that. Ridiculous
elena_398 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Oh I signed too. With all my medical bills, I had planned to do layaway to help us out with christmas. Just another way Im screwed this year.
Candyred32 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I also signed it and emailed it to all my family and friends.

dealluvr Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 i just called my local wal mart and they will still do it this year.after christmas is when it ends or so she told me that
Guest Frieked Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 ending Nov. 19th and all have to be out Dec. 8th SignedThis is the release date for Wii and new Elmo. This ruined my day when I heard.Well, the PS3 will be released before the Wii so you can always get that if you have $500-600 to shell out.
Firemansgal311 Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 This is just insane! They are going to lose a major part of thier business, many people that just get by rely on layaway to get what they need when they have the spare cash.
