TJThompson Posted November 21 Posted November 21 It has been awhile since have had some real holiday spirt. Covid stole alot from our family. However, we have a granddaughter now that will be 14 months so I am trying to make a real effort this year to get back at it. In previous years, the black friday sales used to be at least a few pages for in store bonuses etc. All I see so far on the posted adds are things already available. Maybe I am too early or everyone just orders online anymore. Am I pulling on memories past or are there more actual black friday exciting ads to come (walmart excluded)?
momlori Posted November 21 Posted November 21 Sorry no Black Friday excitement anymore. Mostly everything is online now 2
connieh Posted November 21 Posted November 21 It certainly is different the last few years. We still shop on black Friday at Menards and this year might stop at Kohl's.
setlok73 Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I feel very similar. BF isn't what it was. The stores took something fun and excited and ruined it. I think if one of them went back to how it was and said nope, no early deals. Gotta come into the store at 5am and get the doorbusters etc. they would do amazing. IMO

IMO They might but I'm sure other stores would hear about their sale and put the stuff on sale early to take the business away from them. That's sort of what it seems like they're doing now with all the early sales.
jesusluvu Posted November 22 Posted November 22 I think the old BF is gone. I have been trying to make the best of it but I find myself shopping a lot online. I still go out and fight the crowds but even the crowds are not what it use to be.
noehlp Posted November 24 Posted November 24 I agree that Black Friday sales aren’t like they were; a special for one day!

abentley Posted November 25 Posted November 25 While the excitement has changed, I still try to go out on principle alone! The sales have morphed into sales weeks prior to the Thanksgiving weekend, and honestly I spend less. I keep waiting to see what might pop up until I realize it is over! It is sad and I don’t even know if the retailers are liking the new situation as a n improvement. 3

Plus I've found some good coupons on Amazon before Black Friday so the things I want are cheaper. Other things I miss the sale and decide I don't want. lol
flyjar Posted November 25 Posted November 25 I've become very content with what I have over the years. The price of "stuff" has gone up and it's just not as big a deal as is used to be. Plus the kids have gotten older, so they want bigger more expensive things, so there is a lot less to buy and I start looking for deals way earlier to spread out my cost. 1
Cargirl Posted November 28 Posted November 28 I'm soo missing the days of old when we would stand in line to get that great freebie. I really really miss the great deals that CVS & Walgreens used to have. Not shopping this year the thrill is gone
ljvoskuil Posted November 29 Posted November 29 I miss the old days when I was excited to pick up a newspaper Thanksgiving Day with all the sale ads. After going through the ads I would plan a strategy for my Black Friday shopping adventure. 3
tinkrbel Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Super disappointed this year. Things worked out for the best: PS5 won last year vs this, didn't see ANY deals for controllers under 54.99 this year. iPad bought at Target about a week ago and price matched with Amazon even though colors were different, they also discounted my birthday coupon benefits but still saved $15 and terms seem to align with that so not pushing my luck. I've seen ZERO great deals today vs what I've seen in the last week. Costco apple event was a big nothing, airpods and ipads have been cheaper elsewhere for a while now so I'm glad I didn't tack on another membership store fee in hopes of a better deal. And thankfully Mom managed to get poinsettia without issue at Home Depot this AM. I beat the Gideons website issues and got that but..... hourly my order doesn't get canceled as limit was 1 and I ordered 2 since I didn't bother trying to read stuff while refreshing to try not to miss stuff altogether.
Dylansmommy Posted November 30 Posted November 30 I think 2024 goes down as the worst BF in history. It was so underwhelming that I'm in a state of sadness. I miss the DVD deals, saw none. My best purchase was the $5 Melissa and Doug wooden puzzles at Walmart, but I could have bought those online and not even ventured out. To add insult to injury, I accidentally hit another vehicle in a parking lot, so my BF was very expensive with nothing to show for it! 2 3
cllehto Posted November 30 Posted November 30 I think a lot of items on sale Black Friday were cheaper with coupons available before Black Friday. 2 1
Hubbalance Posted December 1 Posted December 1 I definitely spend less. Between not being in store for impulse buys, website being so hard to navigate, deals not being as good... I didn't even bother with Walmart's site this year, based on the insanity of the pre-sales - not worth the aggravation, 2

There were still quite a few boxes of the Black Friday deals around the store I guess some of them they keep out until gone.

I went to the local Walmart in my little hometown Friday afternoon and got a set of sheets but that’s the only thing I bought BF related from Walmart this year. I usually spend lots more at Walmart during BF season. 1
bribri25 Posted December 1 Posted December 1 I spent more this season because I put off most spending until now figuring most items would at least have some deal (been watching prices all year and most were lowest in the past few weeks). Some items haven't gone on sale, so I'll hold out through Monday. They are all items I would have bought earlier in the year, anyway. 1
abentley Posted December 2 Posted December 2 Well it finally happened. I didn’t even walk into a store the entire week. I am sad and realize I didn’t spend near the amount online that I used to. Walmart sales seam just weird now, My Amazon cart was of items normal daily use items, not any holiday gift giving purchases. 2
cllehto Posted December 2 Posted December 2 Black Friday sales are over but from the look of stuff still in the stores, they might discount even more to sell the stuff by Christmas
