Welcome to the forums.

 

Although I grew up around sewing machines (my Mom is a seamstress), I don't really know enough to reccomend one.

 

Here is what I would do if I were you. There are tons of different machines for different functions. Go to a couple of your local fabric stores and machine dealers and talk to some people there. I wouldn't limit it to the employees, I'm sure that others would be happy to share experiences.

 

When you have an idea of what you want, you may be able to find a good deal by posting it over in the Deal Finder Service forum.

I have a brother that I bought less than a year ago at Walmart (it was a display model) that I paid less than 100.00 for. Course I just make capri sun purses, quilts, drapes, and things like that. I agree talking to people at your local fabric store should help you out a lot. HTH.
