Jeanne515
My 7 year old has requested a Chromebook this year as they use these at school. What is the difference between a Chromebook and a regular laptop? Also which is the best of either to get a 7 year old? She will be using it to play Prodigy math game online, Roblox and watch the goofiest of you tube videos!! Thanks!

wendygrace
I'd get a chromebook. A laptop would be overkill. Both my kids have chromebook from school and they can do verything they need. We don't even own a laptop anymore but we have no computer gamers here.
len_mullen
Online =chromebookOnline + video editing + serious gaming, etc = laptop A chromebook is a low power device which runs chrome (a browser) as its operating system. It is designed to browse web pages. A laptop is a more general use computer which runs Microsoft's Windows, Apple's MacOS, or some flavor of Linux/Unix/Android. It is more powerful and better suited for running programs.
AuntieJul
I'm considering a chromebook for my 7yo DS birthday as well... I'd go for a touchscreen chromebook, it's easier to use than a mouse and alas, the way of the world...
jesusluvu
All depends on need. If there not doing anything major or have a need for programs then a chromebook would be fine. Just know in a few years they're needs may change and you may be looking for a laptop then but you may need to upgrade by then any way.

berry1014
With my job we deal with both acer and dell chromebooks (touch screens and non-touch screen for both) and have had very little issues with the Acers and after 3 to 5 years many are still going strong. Dells on the other hand, depending on the model, have serious breakage with hinge posts, motherboard and or batteries dying after 1 to 2 years and updates causing all sorts of issues.
