Brad Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 11/17 Update: Thread stickied by popular request :) I just coded a new feature for the site. Just go here: http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/make_list.php and you will see a list of all items we have in the database. Select which ones you are interested in, hit a button and a printable list will be displayed. Obviously this won't be as useful now as it will be when all the ads are our, but it's available to play with now anyway. There is also a link to it on the main BF site home page. If anyone has any suggestions for any other features you'd like to see, just let us know :)
RossMAN Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 Just tried this out, works nice. Have my eye on the Apex 27" for $89.99
AFB Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 "eMachines Athlon XP 2800+ PC with 15" LCD - $349.99 " Very nice :)
Keebelf Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 I have that computer! (I think!) Ours is an eMachine 2800....don't know how MUCH of a difference it is but we have been talking about getting Alexis a new computer. She has been using ours from 1998 and it is a bit outdated and messed up and all....might actually get that for her or else get that for US and give her ours.... Have I told you how much I HATE you guys!? QUIT MAKING ME SPEND MONEY DAMMIT!
genoandkiddo Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 Brad that is the coolest thing I have ever seen. That will come in handy. Thanks so much!!!!!
Keebelf Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 I love this list Brad! It is making things so easy, even this early in the game. I just went through it a few minutes ago and clicked off the things I wish to get (whether I can get them or not....) and sent the final list to Chris and he actually responded back with a little under half of my list saying that those were the things we would sereiously look at! For him to be able to APPROVE of what I am doing is very rare, especially if it envolves money! I am sort of bummed though because I want a pair of boots really bad for the winter (as cold as it gets down here in FL) but that is more of a "you have to be there to try it on" type purchase.....if Chris' parents come down, I might be able to talk them into watching the kids that morning so I can help Chris out (hehe.) There is NO WAY I am taking two toddlers to Black Friday, boots or no. ANYWAY, back to the original post.....thank you for this new feature and its ease of use. I have made a spreadsheet of everything that I clicked on but put the Prices in a different feild and then another feild is the sum of that one price column. I am up to 1349.xx so far...not too bad....hehe. of course the list will get added to and chopped and all that other stuff before the final showdown but it is still good to have....if Chris complains about the amount of money too much I can always say "Well, when I first started I wanted to spend...."
RossMAN Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 Only $1,349.xx so far? That's small peas, you've gotta rack up at least $5,000.xx Remember to get a good credit card with rewards to sweeten your deal even more.
Keebelf Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 I have to get my Sears card caught up on the payments....I also just recieved a new Cap. One card but it only has a 300.00 limit and Chris' Cap. One card is paid off, but, again 300.00 That is a good excuse for me to be able to go....since the Sears card is in my name..... And, it is still a small list so far (that you guys have) so, I am sure it will grow by the time all the ads come out.....but I think I found Chris the surround sound system he was wanting....that was one of the items I checked and he said we would look at it so that is a plus.
kulkel Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 I am new to this site but have to say BY FAR, this is the gr8~est! And this shopping list feature, WOW sure takes alot of work out of my planning! Thank you for such a great FORUM!
jmldavidosn Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 I'm new to this site also and I love it! You all are doing such a wonderful job. I know it's a lot of hard work and I appreciate it. I was wondering if there's a way I can save the list somehow so I can add to it daily or whenever new ads come out. Thanks! michelle

Keebelf Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 I'm new to this site also and I love it! You all are doing such a wonderful job. I know it's a lot of hard work and I appreciate it. I was wondering if there's a way I can save the list somehow so I can add to it daily or whenever new ads come out. Thanks! michelle Not sure if I am stepping on any toes by offering this but, what I did was just create a spreadsheet and copy/paste everything. I went through the things that I wanted to keep an eye on and shortened the list down to that (sorry, don't remember the exact words on the button you hit) and then just copied that into a spreadsheet....having the store names in the first column, the item in the second and then just f2'd the items in column B and got rid of the price and then just put the price in the 3rd column. That way, I can save the list to my hard-drive and take a look at it whenever I want and tweak it the way I want as well (ie. sort by price, store...etc.) and even color code the items as well.....
Brad Posted November 5, 2004 Author Posted November 5, 2004 We thought about having prices as a separate column on the site, but a lot of deals will be things like "buy 2 get 1 free", 50% off all XYZ, etc... so not everything will have a concrete price. We'll work on the saved lists though... there is another BF site with a shopping list feature but they require a long registration process. We wanted to make things as easy as possible without anyone having to give us their personal info.
Tagnbama Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Do they usually post more stores the closer to Black Friday they get? I noticed in another thread that there were several more stores....Wal-Mart, Kmart....etc TAG
Keebelf Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 I think once more ads start coming in and they are atually CONFIRMED to being the true Black Friday deals.... They may have Walmart and Kmart but not many out there are going to ahve Sears!
jmldavidosn Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Thanks for replying so fast on the save feature. I'm addicted to this site already and I just found it yesterday!
genoandkiddo Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Tagnmama, Are you sure they were for this year? In another forum they had posted last years. There are alot of sites that did that. It is really annoying. Infact had to call a person out on that. Also it is making me mad that people are coming to this site and not doing what Brad asked. He specifically said not to link to the sears ad and yet mmmmm, somebody did. You know who you are. Oh well it was going to get out, And Gottadeal WAS 1ST.
Brad Posted November 5, 2004 Author Posted November 5, 2004 It wasn't so much that the ads were posted on other sites, but pretty much none of them gave us credit for them - they acted like they originally posted them. But we're used to that around here, our deals from the main site are stolen every day by other sites. Like they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery
genoandkiddo Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 You are right, but still I guess I just feel like "How ignorant." Oh well we were first.
Rebirth Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Nice job, but too much clutter. Can you make it easier to see that list?
outnumbered Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Oooh, you're working on a "save" feature? I was going through the list the other day and was disappointed to see that it didn't remember my items...so I'm happy to hear you're at least looking into making it possible. Thanks. :)
bythebeach Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Anyone know the exact model number "eMachines Athlon XP 2800+ PC with 15" LCD - $349.99 "" i just got a new emachines, after my other one was killed by Hurricane Frances, but i also would like to get another pc for networking
Keebelf Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 Nice job, but too much clutter. Can you make it easier to see that list? What is on your list that isn't on mine? The one I am seeing is pretty clean cut- you have the store, the item and price and then a check box.....
callsheb Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 this is a great feature but can you pin it it is going to get lost in the shuffle. Thanks for this it sure made it easier for me.
brynnfromtheblock Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 Love this feature!!! Anyway once you know the times that the stores open (if it's listed in the ad) that you can ad that next to the store name? Would help me make my gameplan, (looks like everyone is opening at 6 this year though) anyone know what time Office Max is opening?
snips_02 Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 I heard that some TRU are opening earlier than usual. I love the new feature sure does save on printing out the entire list and highlighting what you want. Thanks guys as always you guys rock on BF!!!!!!! Happy Holidays everybody!!!
kelemvor Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Would be neat to see a tally of all the items everyone had added to their list to see what looks to be the most popular. But that'd probably mean it'd have to store everyone shopping list in their profile or something....
