Now that Randy and Paula have spoken, I'll speak for Simon ...

 

It's an okay deal, for Dell. Which means that it's nothing to get excited about. If you really want a Dell, you're probably not going to do much better than this. For a Dell deal, the specs are surprisingly balanced. About the only thing you NEED to upgrade is the battery.

 

But they definitely jacked up the pre-sale price and a comparable system could be had for a couple hundred less elsewhere, albeit without the Dell name.

Is this a good deal? Or did they just jack the price up to make it seem okay? Any thoughts?

This is a great deal and I love that it's fairly loaded and not barebones like most under $800 laptops. I bought a Dell Inspiron 700m almost a year ago and use it at least once a day.

I'm really not sure you could do the same specs for a couple of hundred less with a different brand. Maybe $50-$100 less, but you'd have to send in a rebate.

 

I do wish that they offered Windows XP MCE with this one. Not sure why they aren't.
