speeddiva
Not surprised to see my local store on the list. It’s always deserted. Sent from my iPad using GottaDEAL
Kanyon71
I don't think I've ever actually seen a Bon-Ton store.

speeddiva
I don't think I've ever actually seen a Bon-Ton store. They seem to be more in lower population areas. I have an Elder-Beerman, Carson’s and a Bon-Ton within 30 miles of me. Sent from my iPad using GottaDEAL

mcwalker
Now closing all the rest of the Bon-Ton and related stores. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/18/heres-a-map-of-all-of-bon-tons-stores.html Sad; they have some nice merchandise with good sales. Brad
Sad to see them go, but I know we won't miss typing up their 486-page Black Friday ad each year... If anyone hears about the discounts they are offering in their liquidation sale starting today, please post here.
tracy0504
Yeah, stores in my area are on the updated list...several stores closed years ago and now it looks like the remaining stores will finely see their last leg by the end of Summer or sooner... mcwalker
I stopped by a Bon-Ton in Pennsylvania on Sunday. Discounts were mostly around 50% off ticketed price, with some 60 and 70% off. Still, I didn't see much that I considered a real bargain because the printed ticket prices were high. I looked at one particular pair of HiTec hiking boots that I was interested in previously and did an online comparison. Their printed label showed a price of $100 and they were 50% off. But their price for sale on the HiTec website was $70 and other stores and sites had them for just under that price. That makes $50 look good, but I know that I had seen them on sale for 40 to 50% off that $70 price during sales in the past, so a fair deal, but not so great for a true bargain shopper. So maybe worth a visit, but don't be fooled by the % discount alone. Edited July 3, 2018 by mcwalker
mcwalker
Oh, and I forgot to mention: it was 100 degrees outside when I visited the Bon-Ton store, which was at the end of a small mall. They were not running any air conditioning inside the Bon-Ton, only some very big fans. It was probably about 85 degrees in the store.
Brad
Yeah Bon-Ton is really stretching out this sale for another 2 months, so there aren't too many real deals just yet.
Kanyon71
I just read an article that Bon-Ton is set to reopen with a new owner. They will have a big online presence and are negotiating with landlords on about 5 or 6 states to reopen their brick and mortar stores. The article said it will hire back previous employees. Brad
Definitely interesting. I expected someone to buy the intellectual property and re-open online as many bankrupt store names have done, but I'd be very surprised if they actually follow through with actual stores. It's tough in the current retail climate to start a brand new department store chain from virtually nothing, even if you have recognized brands to use. They could follow the latest trend which is to have stores that also serve as your mini-warehouses for online orders. But Bon-Ton had so many locations and I can't see a new company wanting anywhere close to even half of those.
Kanyon71
Here's the article I read. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/retail/2018/09/06/bon-ton-reopen-new-owner-waits-court-approval-bankruptcy/1201558002/ Here's a small part of it: The new Bon-Ton will emphasize its online shopping experience. But CSC says it is "also in advanced discussions with landlords about reopening stores in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.'' Those locations would likely be staffed by former Bon-Ton employees. So you're only talking about 5 states right now and my guess is far less stores. This is sort of what I hope happens with TRU. Kanyon71
So it looks like it's moving forward, hopefully they get the brick and mortar worked out also.
Brad
Looks like the site is full of items that are sold many other places and can be drop-shipped from the manufacturer or distributor. It's not like they have warehouses full of merch waiting to ship. Didn't see anything with prices that couldn't be beat elsewhere either. So other than the name/logo, there's really nothing the same as the old company.
Kanyon71
Well that's sad, hopefully they get their brick and mortar plan working and build things back.
