I've tried following the directions for entering the coupon code into Dell's e-code format, but am unable to activate the coupon.

Dell's format is 5 alpha-numeric and then 5 or 6 alpha-numeric, but the coupon code is 14 characters long.

Please help us to take advantage of this great deal.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

the 5-6 alpha numeric code is to enter in a code to bring up a special on a desktop or a laptop.

the coupon code is entered at checkout

How do the XPS notebooks compare with the Inspiron notebooks?

It depends on 3 main factors which are:

Budget?

Size/weight, how important are those to you?

How do you plan on using the laptop? Ultra portable, general home use or gamer?

Brief summary:

  • Inspiron 710m - In the laptop world, smaller is better. I own a 700m and love it!

This is an awesome laptop with 5 hours battery life.

  • Inspiron E1505 - Dual Core, 15.4" widescreen, DVD Burner, Bluetooth, 9 cell battery. If size wasn't an issue for me, I would buy this laptop in a heart beat. Last week Dell had an awesome deal for $699 with no rebate. It was later increased to $729 then the deal died. It was loaded for only $699.
  • XPS M170 - If you're a serious gamer and size/budget don't matter then buy this bad boy.

    Pentium-M, 17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA, 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7800 GTX.

If you're in the market for a new Dell laptop or desktop don't forget to check our coupon page :howdy:

Thanks for the info Ross. I was x-shopping the XPS M140 and the Inspiron E1505 for a friend of mine. She basically wants a larger version of my wife's 700m. She's not a gamer at all, which is why I was leaning towards recommending the Insprion, but the XPS prices seemed comparable.

The XPS M140 is an awesome laptop. I actually bought one then sold it after I realized the LCD sucked compared to my 700m.

Get whichever has the right options and is cheaper :)

Well if the LCD sucked compared to the 700m, then perhaps it's not the way to go.

Do you have a Dell kiosk near you?

After I ordered my XPS M140 I visited a Dell kiosk and brought my 700m with me. The 700m's display just blew away the M140. My M140 came with the upgraded TrueLife glossy display, even that doesn't help much. I'm not sure what the E1505 display looks like but I hope it's better than the M140. If the M140 had a better display I probably would have kept it. It had internal Bluetooth, larger keyboard, better specs and 9 cell battery giving close to 7 hours of battery life.

I'll probably keep my 700m until they upgrade it and offer some wicked awesome discounts :runaway:

Nope, no Dell Kiosks around these parts. Oh, well, it's for my friend - she can decide what she wants :).

Keep in mind that your friend may not be a geeky-techno-perfectionist like I am. I'm sure the LCD display is just fine. If you get a good deal, pull the trigger. I would consider upgrading the warranty to the 2 year.
