RossMAN Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 This is an excellent deal, especially if you're in the market for a mid to high level laptop. My favorites are the Inspiron 600m, new 700m, 9100 and widescreen 8600. If I were in the market for a loaded but portable laptop, I'd probably get a decked out 8600.
Pliablemoose Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 I wonder if this coupon will work with the $200 rebate currently offered?
Brad Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 I was able to place an order for a 700m. My order confirmation does show the $200 rebate, so (at least when I ordered) they are stackable. Rumors are Dell is going to (if they haven't already) kill the rebates, so order soon if you want in. My final price should be $799 shipped after rebate. I took the standard 1.6GHz config and upgraded to the 60GB HD to get the total to $1499.
Pliablemoose Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 Curse you guys, I'm pulling the trigger & listing my old (2 month old) notebook on eBay... Done:D
Brad Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 lol. it's addicting, isn't it? which model are you getting?

Pliablemoose Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 Just got the base model 700M & upgraded the battery (65 WHr 8-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery) Battery life is my biggest bitch about current notebook $1,591.17 (before coupon, includes taxes in Texas ) $1,091.17 (after $500 coupon) $891.17 (after $200 rebate) I have an Averatec 3220 that should go for $750-$800 on fleabay if the freaking overseas scammers don't buy it, like they did my last 3 or so auctions Sweet deal guys thanks I've even got an extra stick of 256K sodimm to pop in...
Brad Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 I thought about getting the bigger battery after reading reviews that said the standard battery only lasted around 2 hours, but the bigger one sticks out quite a bit on the back and makes it a little heavier, so considering I was getting it because it was so light and small, I didn't want to add more size and weight (but I can always get it later if battery life becomes a concern) Some reviews on the 700m: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.aspx?newsID=2022http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1627592,00.asphttp://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=51&threadid=1388819&enterthread=yhttp://notebookforums.com/archive/index.php/t-42935.htmlhttp://forum.osnn.net/showthread.php?t=40520&page=1&pp=20
Pliablemoose Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 Ultraportables rock, this'll be my 3rd. Just noticed the HD's are 7200rpm's too:heart:
Brad Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 Anyone know of a good case/sleeve for a small laptop like this? Preferrably something equally small?
RossMAN Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 Great deal on the loaded Inspiron 9100, definitely a desktop replacement with all that horsepower.
Brad Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 Due to overwhelming demand, Dell has notified it's affiliates that it is pulling the coupon around 3pm CST, so if you are on the fence, you better make your mind up soon. From their e-mail: "We have had amazing results, and we are running at over 5 times our projected run rate. We've never experimented with an offer this rich before, and this test has proven the strength and elasticity of the affiliate channel."
Brad Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 Where is this $200 coupon at?Bobby - it was a $500 coupon and $200 rebate. The coupon has expired now.
Brad Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 Anyone have their system ship yet? Mine is in the final "Boxing" stage so it should be shipping any day now. Just ordered a stick of 512MB Corsair memory from ZipZoomFly for $87 with free 2nd day shipping. I'm considering this sleeve for it as well.
Pliablemoose Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 I was looking @ that case too, prefer to keep mine in a backpack type carrier though, lets me carry more crap. I liked the high res shots the OP @ FW linked too, less worried about the 8 cell battery looking bad now, it seems pretty minimal. Looks like only 1 memory slot? I have a 512 stick in my Averatec, guess I can pull it & stick it in the Dell if it only has 1 slot for memory Mine appears to be in the Boxing phase also
Brad Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 There are 2 memory slots, one you can get to from the bottom, and the other you have to pop off the keyboard to get to.
RossMAN Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 Brad, have you decided what you're going to do with your 700m?
Brad Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 I'm probably going to keep it. If I already had a laptop I would consider selling it, but there are so many of these on eBay now since so many people bought them last week to sell, so I wouldn't make much on it anyway. Plus when I saw Dell's print ad in my Sunday paper, they had virtually the same configuration for $1499, so to get it for $799 (minus the tax deduction ), it's too hot of a deal not to keep it for myself, lol.
Pliablemoose Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Mine should show up Thursday:D I'm going to keep it a few months & sell it eventually, as long as I break even or come close I'll be happy Although I wish I'd gotten an 802.11g mini pci card instead of the 802.11b, easy enough to swap out if there's a noticeable difference though...
