I just placed an order at amazon for $14 for a set of pliers, folding utility knife, and a magnetic 9" level.

On the checkout page (just before you click place order) right above where you choose shipping it told me that I had been selected for a 3 month trial of amazon prime and to click on a button there to activate it!!

Amazon prime is HAWT!

Looks like they are offering it just as you are about to checkout, so add an item to your cart and go through the checkout pages all the way up until you choose the shipping (just before you hit the PLACE ORDER button). See if they offer you a free trial as well.

Alternativly: You can also check on my account under manage subscriptions, and clicking on amazon prime. Previous similar deals have sometimes shown the free offer there, but be careful! If it says click here to subscribe to amazon prime for $79, its not free. Click there and you will instantly get charged. Only if it says free is it free.

As a side note, amazon is great about having the membership not renew for $80 after 3 months. Just goto MY ACCOUNT, and pick "Manage your Amazon Prime membership" under "Subscriptions Management". Then just click on the button to not renew/upgrade after 3 months. As simple as that, they wont charge you to renew it and you dont have to worry about canceling it as the day approaches. No hassle.

It will then say something like this:

"Your trial membership will not upgrade to a full membership automatically on April 28, 2006"

I had to go through the link as if I was going to join. The offer was on one of the pages on the right hand side about 2 pages into it.

I was in the same dilema. But last time I wasn't offered it when others were. So since it costs nothing, I did it. Hopefully, I'll get to use it before the 3 months is up.

Back before Christmas, I was able to sign up for the free 2 month trial. I ordered a bunch of Christmas presents with no shipping cost, but the problem with Prime is that it has to be an Amazon store, not a seller on Amazon's site for Prime to give free shipping. I found tons of good deals, but when you checked them out, they were not available for free shipping because they were independent sellers on the Amazon site. I have decided not to pay the $79 for a year's membership because I would have to order a lot to pay that much in shipping. If you can get a free trial, it is great to experience though.

Can it be used in the Toys R Us and Baby R Us section?

Be sure to do just that...OR this will happen...

As the 3-month free trial period ends, if you want to join Amazon Prime, do nothing. At that point we will enroll you in a 12-month membership and charge a $79 annual fee to the credit card listed below. If you are not interested in joining Amazon Prime after the free trial, that's okay, too. We make it easy to cancel online any time before the trial ends, and we'll even send you a reminder e-mail along the way. We're hoping you'll like the membership and will want to continue.

Thanks for this - I did that so I don't have to worry about cancelling it before it gives out! :)

Great! I can really use this!

I just signed up for this, now I just need to remember to cancel it in 3 months :)

And Ross you can modify the settings so it doesn't upgrade. Pay attention to directions!
